During the celebration of City Day, more than a thousand festive events will be held in the capital, the Presidium of the Moscow Government announced during the meeting.
“City Day is coming soon, and for the first time we will celebrate it not on the first, but on the second weekend of September. A large number of people, organizations are preparing for this event, and almost all departments of the city of Moscow are involved. More than a thousand festive events will be held on September 10-11,” said the Moscow Mayor.
About 10 million people will take part in the celebration of City Day. “In total, we will host more than a thousand events, including 300 concerts. The total reach of the audience to whom we offer these events, according to our calculations, is somewhere up to 10 million people,” noted the head of the Department of Culture. The program includes over 100 master classes, over 200 free excursions, 12 high-rise and 20 park fireworks displays. The streets and squares of the city will be decorated with 270 art objects.
According to Alexander Kibovsky, the program of festive events was formed taking into account the opinions of Muscovites. “The city has prepared an extensive cultural program. Moreover, when planning it, the wishes of Muscovites, who expressed themselves on the “Active Citizen” portal, were taken into account. In total, 1.5 million opinions and proposals were received on a variety of aspects - from classical concerts to exotic proposals, such as the “Reading Monuments” project,” he specified.
Festive squares will be organized in all districts of the capital. A total of 212 city-wide, district and regional sites will be prepared.
Sergei Sobyanin instructed the prefectures to inform the population about events dedicated to the celebration of City Day, which will be held at regional sites.
“We need to ask prefectures and district heads to pay special attention to informing citizens about what will happen in their districts and districts, so that we really do not concentrate the entire population of the city and the surrounding Moscow region on central sites. It is necessary to clearly and understandably explain what events will be held in each district, in each district, including fireworks, which will be not only on Poklonnaya Hill, but also in every district of Moscow,” said the Moscow Mayor.
Festivals, concerts and fireworks
The main festival venues will be Tverskaya Street, Krasnaya, Manezhnaya, Tverskaya, Teatralnaya, Pushkinskaya and Bolotnaya Squares, Arbat Street, Poklonnaya Gora, Gorky Park, Sokolniki, Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, Kolomenskoye Estate Museum, VDNKh and pedestrian Moscow zones.
The central event will traditionally be the grand opening of City Day on Red Square, which will take place on September 10 at 12:00. The program at city venues will begin with the broadcast of the opening ceremony. The Moscow anthem will give a musical start to the holiday at all venues in the city at 13:00.
Poklonnaya Hill will host the parade of Russian students, Patriarch's Ponds— festival dedicated to the work of M.A. Bulgakov, Tsvetnoy Boulevard— festival of charitable foundations "Good Moscow". In Catherine Park, children will enjoy concerts and theater performances, master classes and play areas, and performances by theater groups. For the first time, City Day events will be held in parks that were comprehensively improved in 2016 (for example, in the renovated Olympic Village park).
The events of the Moscow Cinema festival will be held at 33 city venues as part of the Moscow Seasons. Tverskaya Street will turn into a cinema venue where scenes from everyone’s favorite domestic films “Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession”, “The Pig Farm and the Shepherd”, “War and Peace”, “Circus”, “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed”, “I Walk in Moscow” will be reenacted ", "Pokrovsky Gate", "Guest from the Future", "Night Watch", "Hipsters".
The program will end on Saturday (September 10) at 22:00 with festive fireworks in all districts.
Equipment parade, “Brighter Together” festival and competitions
On September 11, a parade of city vehicles will take place along the Garden Ring. It can claim the title of record, as one of the largest in the world, noted Alexander Kibovsky.
“The city is preparing a unique event - a parade of city equipment, which will take place on September 11 along the Garden Ring from 13:00 to 16:00, and then, from 17:00, there will be an exhibition of city equipment. I believe that when we carry it out, we can claim to be in all the record books. There has been no such parade not only in the country, but nowhere else in the world: 675 units of equipment will take part. These will be not only retro models, but also a fleet of the equipment, those cars that Moscow has updated in recent years - these are cars for public transport, security, and public utilities,” said the head of the Moscow Department of Culture.
According to him, the parade will be no less spectacular than the parade of military equipment on May 9.
After the parade, an exhibition of automobile equipment of city services will open in the area of Barrikadnaya and Krasnaya Presnya streets.
In the sports part of the City Day celebration program— festivals of workout, student and youth sports, Moscow Mayor's Cup in mixed martial arts MMA and other sports competitions. The “Artist” Foundation for Supporting Artists will hold a charity “Bike Ride with the “Artist””.
VDNKh will host a big children's party, the All-Russian energy saving festival “#Brighter Together” and a photo exhibition of the finalists of the “Planet Moscow” competition.
The security of the festive events will be ensured by more than 15 thousand police officers, the National Guard and people's vigilantes. It is planned to strengthen the work of private security companies in city parks of culture and recreation.
For medical support, 10 teams of the Scientific and Practical Center for Emergency Medical Care of Moscow will be involved. Up to 100 emergency medical teams will be on duty.

Every park, every museum and exhibition complex, chain stores and large enterprises will present their own celebration programs - you just have to decide in advance where you most want to go, because it’s simply impossible to see everything in one day.

City Day is a time when everyone has the opportunity to confess their love to their native or now-native metropolis, and once again look around in surprise and realize - I live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet! In 2016, Moscow will celebrate its 869th birthday on September 10, which was moved to the second weekend of September due to the fact that this year the holiday coincides with September 3 - the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism.
Everyone has their own favorite holiday - New Year, Birthday, March 8, February 23... But there is a holiday that all Moscow residents, without exception, look forward to. We are, of course, talking about City Day! And this is not without reason, because the capital is literally blooming before our eyes, becoming even more beautiful and brighter than usual. This year, 2016, the best city on Earth, according to Leonid Petrovich Derbenev, the author of the lyrics to the song of the same name, will celebrate its 869th anniversary. And although the date is not round, the holiday promises to be grandiose.
2016 in our country is the Year of Russian Cinema. It was this theme that formed the basis for the concept of the capital’s upcoming birthday.
Moscow will appear elegant and updated to the citizens: posters, banners and banners depicting a composition of three numbers - eight, six and nine - are gradually appearing everywhere. It is noteworthy that they are presented in the form of five rings, which immediately evokes an association with the main transport arteries of the metropolis. Light walls and installations are installed in parks and squares, which create a unique atmosphere with their glow in the evening. Among the art objects, which are also decorations, five stylized arches stand out. They were created on the basis of sketches “originally” from 1947: then the first post-war fair was held in Moscow, and 69 years later, the entrance lobbies, as if greetings from the past, will again delight Muscovites.
It is worth noting that one of the gifts to citizens for the capital’s birthday will be free excursions. More than two hundred such routes have been announced. Many museums, exhibition centers, and art galleries invite guests to view their exhibitions these days, also completely free of charge.
The main festive program of City Day will unfold on Tverskaya: ten thematic platforms will operate here, each of which presents a specific and, of course, everyone’s favorite domestic film - “Ivan Vasilyevich is changing his profession”, “The meeting place cannot be changed”, “I am walking around Moscow” , “Pokrovsky Gate” and others. In addition, famous chefs here will offer guests to treat themselves to specialties from the same films. The townspeople will try here “overseas eggplant caviar”, the legendary “Olivier” salad, porridge, and for dessert, of course, “Bird’s Milk”.
The culmination of City Day will be fireworks, however, this year it will not be the same as usual: in the sky over Moscow, those gathered will see not just sheaves of light splashes, but all kinds of shapes - flowers, balls, hearts. A dozen sites will be set up within the city from which launches will take place, so that the entire city will literally be enveloped in a bright glow. The organizers promise that the heavenly performance will be visible from afar, so guests of the holiday will absolutely be able to enjoy this unprecedented show. But we still recommend choosing a place to watch it in advance. This is the first time such a highly artistic fireworks display will take place in the Russian capital, so it’s definitely worth seeing! Surely not all the surprises have been revealed yet, so just plan a long walk that lasts a whole day and you will see everything with your own eyes. Every year, City Day is an unforgettable event that is talked about and admired for a long time.
Program of events for City Day in Moscow 2016
The holiday entertainment program is always created taking into account that people of all ages will be interested in attending the events. Most of them involve spectator participation, to which the townspeople enthusiastically answer “yes.” City Day is an opportunity to express yourself, show your talents and make new acquaintances.
Preparations for City Day 2016 have already begun: the city authorities, in collaboration with art groups, are working on the project. All that remains is to be in anticipation of a noisy and cheerful holiday, where everyone is a welcome and important guest.
