Because of the bad weather conditions I couldn’t leave Kyiv by bus, so I had to take train 067 Kyiv-Warsaw. If you are interested, then this article is for you.

Let's start with the history of my trip

I planned to return to Poland by bus, the ticket was purchased, my things were collected. On the day of the trip, I arrived at the station and the interesting things began. Due to the weather, many buses were canceled, my bus, for some unknown reason, did not arrive on time - when I called the carrier, I did not receive a clear answer, not only did they not say why it was not there, but they also hung up. Of course, I suspect that perhaps the fuel froze due to frost or the bus simply did not start, but no one said any specifics. I had to cancel the trip on this bus.

The problems don’t end there - after all, you can’t buy a ticket for international flights via the Internet - you need to go to the station and go to the international ticket office. Which is what was done. Upon arrival at the station and standing in line, I learned two main pieces of information:

  • exists train 067K Kyiv-Warsaw which departs at 17:24 Kiev time and arrives at Warsaw at 9:10 at the central railway station, the cost of a one-way ticket is 2259 UAH
  • You can only buy a ticket with cash- which is strange for me personally.

Purchasing a ticket, as already written, is possible only in cash, while everyone at the ticket office is told that there is a possibility of payment bank cards, but not in this direction, if I understood the cashier correctly, you can only pay with a card for tickets to Russia. It’s hard to say where the logic is in this, but let’s believe that it exists. But still, if so, then the workers UkrZaliznytsia It wouldn’t hurt to put up a notice about this, because I had to quickly look for where to withdraw money, despite the fact that there are no ATMs at the station (SHOCK CONTENT).

Now to the train itself

A train ticket is two tickets at different prices. I don’t understand why or how, but there are two of them.

Arriving at the station at the appointed time, I saw a train, these are ordinary old carriages in the amount of 3 pieces, there is no restaurant carriage here.

The compartments are not ordinary - they have 3 floors. Why such a decision? Probably so that more people could fit in a regular carriage. There is little space, there is almost no room to put a bag, and given that most people travel with large bags, there is no room in the compartment even to just sit. Due to the fact that the beds are on 3 floors, if a passenger on the middle bunk wants to lie down and unfolds his “bed,” no one below will be able to sit - there simply isn’t enough height. Those with claustrophobia are doomed to suffer.

Why no photo?

A few photos of the coupe (sorry for the photo quality):

The advantages of the compartment include the toilet occupancy indicator - it lights up green when the toilet is free and red when the toilet is occupied. The toilet is a separate issue.

The corridor looks like this:

You can see from the photo that the carriages are not new, you can feel their age. Considering the cost of the ticket, you expect to see something different, because the ticket is about 4 times more expensive than the bus. The only plus that could justify the price of a ticket is the opportunity to sleep on the road, although on the other hand, for that kind of money it is more than possible to buy a plane ticket, especially if in advance.

An equally important element of the train is its toilet. The toilet is rather weak, again, for this money I would like something better. Considering that when traveling for the same money to Moscow, the train was much better. There is not enough paper, there is only one soap, and there is no liquid soap (although there is a tank), and it is no secret that it is unhygienic to use bar soap for a large number of people. There was soap in some hair, I’m afraid to imagine who did what with it.

As can be seen from last photo, water collects in the sink, which is not very good. By the way, the toilet is very loud, namely the flush after using the toilet.

The passport/customs control procedure is the same as for international travel, except for replacement wheelset ( or what is the correct name for this mechanism?) is no different from a trip to Russia, for example.

Our border guards enter the border first, the first is customs control, they ask if there is anything to declare and others standard questions. Then it goes passport control, they take the passports and go somewhere with them. You can continue to sleep, waiting for the miracle of returning your passport. After the passports of all passengers are returned, the train moves on. In general, it feels like he was driving during the check, but I can’t say for sure - he was sleeping :)

Replacing a wheel set takes 1-2 hours, nothing is clear because it’s dark and you want to sleep, but one thing is clear - something is happening - they’re knocking, they’re doing something. The main thing is the result.

The Poles have a similar work scheme, also first there is customs control, then passport control, with one difference - the Poles check the passport right on the spot. After all checks, the train moves on.

In my case, the train was 10 minutes late, which, in principle, is not critical for a train whose route has a border with passport and customs control.

A separate word can be written about train passengers. If you come across adequate passengers, the trip will be normal, but in my case there were some not so good ones good people. They smoked more often than they breathed, the smoke was constantly drawn into the corridor/compartment. They made noise and drank.

To summarize

I wouldn’t go by train; for the money that the ticket costs, it makes sense to fly by plane, considering that a round-trip ticket with LOT airlines can cost a little cheaper, the same, or a little more - I don’t see the point of going by train. And given the situation that I witnessed at the station, the girl lost her ticket, her train is in 30 minutes, she goes to the cashier to get some help, but at the same time they tell her that the only way is to buy new ticket, and it cost her 2800 UAH. I simply have no words, how is it that tickets are sold to a specific name, do they really not have a database of sold tickets and they cannot issue the ticket again? As a result, the girl spent a considerable sum to leave. In general, it’s better not to get involved, because the service is lame.

Happy travels to everyone.
