Crossing the borders of the Russian Federation requires the presence in the passport of a visa allowing stay in the country for the period provided for by current legislation. This requirement does not apply only to citizens of CIS countries. All others are forced to obtain a similar permit. The process of obtaining a Russian visa for Europeans requires detailed consideration.

The visa procedure is carried out on the territory of the state in which the candidate resides. It is issued for 90 days. If a citizen of another country wants to enter Russia for a longer period, he needs to attach a certificate confirming the absence of HIV infection to the main package of documents. The validity period of such a certificate is 3 months.

A Russian visa for EU citizens is issued within 7-10 days.

In some cases, this period is 21 days, which depends primarily on the country in which the applicant resides, as well as on the type of permit obtained. There is an urgent visa application (1-3 days), but the fee paid, however, doubles.

Untimely departure from the Russian Federation entails fines, the amount of which depends on the number of days overdue. If there are no more than three, then the visa can be extended at the airport by paying a fine right there on the spot. If the period is longer, then the entire procedure takes place at the FMS office, and administrative responsibility involves a larger amount. It is worth remembering that all fines and violations are entered into a single database of the migration department, and this may negatively affect the result of the next visa request. To prevent such misunderstandings, questions regarding visa extension must be addressed before its expiration.

Tourist visa

This type of entry permit is the most common today. Obtaining this visa requires the following set of documents:

  • personal information about the tourist (full name, date of birth, passport number);
  • date of entry into and exit from the Russian Federation;
  • tour operator registration details;
  • list of services paid by the tourist (hotel, flight, transfer, excursions);
  • seal and signature of the travel agency.

A copy and original of the insurance, a handwritten insurance card in Russian or English.

Transit visa

To obtain a transit visa, a traveler does not need an invitation from the Russian side. This type of entry permit assumes that its bearer will only use the territory of the specified state to transfer to another flight. That is why the coverage area of this document is the airport. A tourist does not have the right to go beyond its borders, having only this type of visa in hand.

The documents needed to obtain a transit stamp are the same as for a regular tourist visa. However, you also need to include a visa from the country you are going to and tickets for your connecting flight. The permit is valid for 72 hours.
