Christmas Light Festival 2017

Since last year, two New Year's festivals - Journey to Christmas and Christmas Light - have been going hand in hand.

The Christmas Light Festival will be held in Moscow for 66 days - from December 16, 2016 to February 19, 2017.

The organizers set their goal to illuminate the entire center of Moscow, so that walkers would have the impression of the continuity of a magical forest or palace where night never falls. Light installations will create a mood of magic, warmth, home comfort and, in some places, recklessness.

• Light installation “Musical Forest”(Pushkinskaya Square) will be located on the site of the fountain. Small light and music concerts lasting 10 minutes will be given here.
• On Tverskaya lanterns will turn into glowing glasses of champagne.
• IN Stoleshnikov in the alley you can admire the huge chandeliers.
• Nikolskaya, Teatralnaya and Tverskaya squares, Novopushkinsky square will stand out with their light arches.
• On Tsvetnoy Boulevard they will install amusement park.
• Near Arc de Triomphe They will put Santa Claus behind three horses.

Free excursions around Moscow

Throughout the month, while the Journey to Christmas festival lasts, the project “Walking around Moscow” will carry out free excursions through the streets of Moscow on the theme of New Year and Christmas. The walks will last about two hours and start from the central streets.

The program includes walks to the places of Tsvetaeva, Mayakovsky, Chaliapin, Diaghilev and Stanislavsky.

Ice slides on Poklonnaya Hill

For those who are not traveling to Krasnaya Polyana this winter or who are not skiing at all, there will be a great opportunity to experience all the beauty of winter.

From December 29, 2016 to January 8, 2017, ice slides for children and adults will be open on Poklonnaya Hill.

The slides will be up to 100 meters long.

The Journey to Christmas 2017 and Christmas Light festivals are part of the extensive program of annual public events in the Moscow Seasons. The event will begin at 12:00 on a natural slope near the Shibaevsky pond. “Christmas starts” in ski orienteering will be held on January 5 and 6. Participants will receive special maps indicating ski slopes and trails and will go in search of control points installed on the area. At the start, beginners will learn the basics of orienteering and how to act correctly at a distance. Gathering at 11:00 at the main stage, starts from 12:00. In case of unsuitable weather conditions The competition will take place without the use of skis. Participation is free, no special skills or abilities are required. If necessary, you can rent skis at the park (200 rubles/1 hour).

On January 5 at 12:00 at the rental point on the central square there will be a winter duathlon: the competition consists of 2 parts - running and target shooting. Participants will cover a distance of 400 meters and shoot targets with a laser rifle. For every mistake, athletes will face a penalty task. On winter holidays The bookcrossing gazebo will turn into a photo zone “Santa Claus’s Shop” with a throne, a fireplace with logs, gifts under the tree and festive decor - everything for creating cozy photos.

From January 6 to 8, from 11:00, park visitors will ride on tubes or sleds in a husky team and will be able to purchase souvenirs at a charity fair. All activities are paid (from 200 rubles), the funds collected will go to the “Northern Dog House” foundation. The venue is an alley in the central square.

The basics of playing football will be taught to children from 3 to 7 years old by the coaches of the Championika club: the master class will be held on January 7 and 8 from 12:00 to 14:00 on the playground. Participation is free.
