The Czech Republic has more than two hundred ski resorts. Which is not surprising, since there are many mountain ranges located on the territory of the country: the Giant Mountains, the Beskydy Mountains, the Jezersky Mountains, the Ore Mountains and the Ore Mountains.

Mount Śnieżka

Mount Snezka is considered the record holder; its height is not much higher than 1600 meters.

Therefore, for extreme sports enthusiasts or skiers with extensive experience, the ski resorts of the Czech Republic may seem of little interest.

In order to dispel this prejudice, it is enough to visit one of them. For example, Spindleruv Mlyn, Harrachov, Pec pod Snezkou, Liberec or God's Gift.

Features of the resorts

Most of the resorts in the Czech Republic are located in nature reserves and national parks, which guarantees impressive views, as well as careful control over the quality of superbly equipped trails.

The duration of the ski season in the Czech Republic is standard. It starts at the end of November and ends at the beginning of April.

Tourists who come with their families can also enjoy visiting these places.

Trails of varying difficulty for visitors of all ages, wooded slopes with unforgettable air, a large number of hotels of different classes and a considerable list of additional entertainment.

All this is attributed to the ski resorts of the Czech Republic for good reason.

– a pearl hidden in the Krkonose Mountains.

Getting to this resort is no easier than pronouncing its name. There is only one way available for this, through a gorge in the Krkonše mountain range.

It is located on the territory of a local national park, 140 kilometers from the capital of the Czech Republic.

The total length of the trails is almost three dozen kilometers. According to the European classification of difficulty, there are 7 slopes for beginners, 10 for more experienced skiers and 3 black ones, that is, especially difficult and dangerous slopes.

The main ones are considered to be St. Peter and Medvedin; a free bus service is established between them. 25 drag lifts and 3 cable cars deliver resort guests to the tops of the slopes.

The temperature climate is considered mild - frosts rarely exceed -10 degrees. Because of this, there is a shortage of natural snow cover at the resort and it is artificially supplemented.

The slopes are well illuminated by powerful floodlights, making skiing possible late and at night.

For everyone who wants to master the ski disciplines of the sport, there are several schools in Špindleruvý Mlýn, including those with Russian-speaking instructors.

Amateurs and professionals can purchase skiing tickets. Their prices range from 500 CZK per day and 2700 CZK per week.

Among additional entertainments, Mlyn offers its guests snowboarding and bobsleigh.

As well as a comprehensive Aqua center, fitness classes, tennis and squash. All these activities are carried out by experienced professionals and comply with the safety requirements for ski resorts in the Czech Republic.

(Harrachov) is a paradise for ski jumping lovers.

In the same Giant Mountains, but to the west, at the foot of the Devil’s Mountain, there is another ski resort.

It is located 130 kilometers from Prague and can be reached either by car or by train. Harrachov is a haven for everyone who loves active recreation.

Like other ski resorts in the Czech Republic, Harrachov attracts tourists from all over the world.

It is especially appreciated by those who follow ski jumping performances or are themselves keen on this winter sport.

The first competitions were held here back in 1905. And the legendary K-185 springboard allowed several modern athletes to set world records.

There are, of course, tracks for alpine and cross-country skiing. And also for snowboarding and bobsleigh.

The length of the ski slopes is 10 kilometers. There are 5 slopes for beginners, 2 for experienced amateurs and 1 for professional athletes.

They can be reached using 15 lifts of both types. The price of a daily subscription starts from 400 CZK and from 2200 CZK for a week.

To create optimal cover, snow cannons are used. There are illuminated slopes for skiing in the evening.

An interesting new product will help beginners overcome their fear - a ski simulator. It will allow you to go down the slope safely and without problems, even for those who are skiing for the first time.

Pec pod Snezka is a fairy tale at the foot of the highest mountain in the Czech Republic.

One of the most popular ski resorts in the Czech Republic is the town of Pec.

It is located 170 kilometers from Prague airport. Every day there are bus routes that depart from the Black Bridge station.

The price of a single ticket is 180 CZK, and the entire journey takes about 4 hours.

For guests of the resort there are 12 trails, including 8 for beginners, 3 for those who ski regularly and 1 especially difficult.

A distinctive feature of Pec pod Snezka is its climate, which is close to polar.

Thanks to this, most of the snow cover on the slopes is natural, and there are practically no strong winds.

Some slopes are illuminated for evening skiing. Their service life is extended through the use of snow cannons.

Liberec is the northern capital of the Czech Republic.

In the valley between the Jezer Mountains and the Jested Ridge is the most densely populated of all ski resorts in the Czech Republic.

There are 10 lifts of different types: chair lifts, rope tows and cabin lifts. Ski schools and equipment rentals are available.

Evening lighting is provided for those who like to ride at a late time. And also snow cannons, in case there is not enough natural snow.

One of the centers of ski holidays in Europe

The ski season in the Czech Republic begins in mid-December and ends in mid-April. European slopes are well-groomed, very comfortable and affordable, in contrast to expensive, well-promoted European resorts. Oddly enough, there is currently a great demand in the Czech Republic for its numerous ski resorts. People are attracted to them by the consistency of the weather and the relatively low cost. The technical support of resorts, in particular ski lifts, is improving every year. Spindleruv Mlyn is considered the best among the mass of ski resorts in the Czech Republic in the period from January to April, along with the resort of Harrachov and the winter resorts of the Krkonose National Park.

Krkonoše– a ski resort and national park in the Czech Republic, located on the highest mountain range (altitude about 1.1 – 1.4 km). It is located on the border with Poland, 130 km from Prague. The slopes of the Giant Mountains, covered with pine and spruce trees, look very picturesque. Numerous rivers run along the slopes of the mountain range, one of them is the largest river in Europe - the Elbe (in the Czech Republic this river is called Laba)

The resort has a mild climate, the average temperature per year is plus 5 degrees Celsius. The average January temperature is 6 degrees. The holiday season lasts from December to May, during which time the snow layer remains 100–130 cm.

At the end of the nineteenth century, the Giant Mountains became a popular resort. It is worth noting that its popularity has fallen during its existence, but at the present time it has grown again.

Spindleruv Mlyn: an affordable alternative

Text: Alexey Shibanov (St. Petersburg), photo by the author

The Czech Republic is somehow not traditionally perceived in our country as a ski country. Indeed, there are no Alps in it, and people go there first of all to see Prague, drink beer, and for those who are older, to receive medical treatment “on the waters.” It turned out that if you compare Czech resorts with other countries of the “former socialist camp” or with Krasnaya Polyana, they are quite a good and affordable option for those who are limited in time and money. There are many options for inexpensive accommodation in the Czech Republic, but perhaps the most interesting resort from a skiing point of view is Spyndleruv Mlyn. It is better to fly from St. Petersburg to the Czech Republic with Czech Airlines: a ticket to Prague and back in February of this year cost 8,500 rubles, while Pulkovo asked about 12,000. Soft landing in Prague, a short transfer, and in 40 minutes You can already talk at the hotel reception and check in.

In the Czech Republic, many people still speak Russian well, especially the older generation, and in general have a good attitude towards our compatriots.

The sights of Prague deserve a separate description and several days of leisurely walks. In a word - BEAUTIFUL. Visiting the Charles Bridge and wandering around the city center is great! And, of course, you should stop by the pub and drink delicious Czech beer with pork knuckle and dumplings - a real pleasure. Even those who have once been to Prague should visit this wonderful city and spend at least a couple of days in it. Prices in Prague are low (a glass of beer will cost you somewhere around 35-40 CZK, that is, about 40-50 rubles).

It is worth going to the resort in the morning in order to have time to ride that day. Spyndleruv Mlyn is located approximately 100 - 150 km from Prague, and a 2-hour short excursion on a bus to explore the Czech Republic flies by.

Špindlerův Mlýn is located at altitudes of 715-1300 meters above sea level, in the territory of the Krkonoše Nature Park, at the confluence of the Labe (Elbe) and Dolskym potokem (Lower Stream) rivers. In winter, snow cover lasts from December to April. On average, 1 to 3 meters of snow falls, while the weather on the mountain tops is usually sunny. The air temperature in January at the peaks is about minus 7 degrees Celsius, in the middle part of the mountains - about minus 4.5 degrees, in the valleys - minus 3 degrees Celsius.

The resort itself is divided into two ski areas: St. Peter and Medvedin, which are covered by a single ski pass. The total length of the ski slopes is 26 km, the cross-country ski slopes are more than 100 km. Children under 6 years old ride for free; older children, teenagers and pensioners (over 65 years old) have discounts on ski passes. A ski pass for 1 full day of skiing in high season costs 750 CZK (approx. 29 EUR) for adults, 500 CZK (17.8 EUR) for children, for 3 days – 2000 CZK (71 EUR) and 1350 CZK (48 EUR). Night skiing tracks are open every evening, from 18.00 to 21.00, the total length of the illuminated tracks is more than 1500 m. The St. Peter area has 11 tracks (5 blue, 4 red and 2 black); for adults and children, as well as a cross-country ski track - the Krkonose Highway; a funpark (including a halfpipe) awaits snowboarders. The total length of the trails is 13.5 km, of which 7.5 km are with artificial snow. The trails are illuminated in the evening. In this part of the resort there are 12 drag lifts and 3 chairlifts. In the same area there is a track where World Cup competitions are held - the black FIS World Cup, 550 m long with a height difference of 180 m.

The Medvedin area includes 7 slopes (1 blue, 5 red, 1 black) for adults and children, as well as cross-country ski slopes - and a snowpark for snowboarders. The total length of the trails is 11.5 km, of which 5.5 km are with artificial snow. In total, there are 7 drag lifts in the area, as well as 1 chairlift. In addition to St. Peter and Medvedin, there are many different small slopes scattered along the slopes throughout the village.

Resort website: www.skiarealspindl.cz

Spindleruv Mlyn is very popular among the Germans (you can hear German speech all around, you get the feeling that you are not in the Czech Republic, but somewhere in the German Garmisch), there are very few Russians. Children's ski gardens and various “devices” for skiing with children are well developed. It was very interesting to watch how they work with children - various games, catch-ups, etc. Parents can send their kids to kindergarten without any worries and ride safely. I was pleased with the fairly inexpensive ski pass (much cheaper than in Krasnaya Polyana and the Leningrad region). The blue trails are quite winding and with a slight slope, very suitable for beginners, the red and black ones are much more serious. I must say that you get much more tired on the blue slopes than on the red and black ones: there are a lot of people, most of them are just learning, so there is little enjoyment in skiing, a lot of concentration is required so as not to hurt anyone. And there are not many red and black skaters, there is a place to accelerate properly, test your technique and enjoy skating. For confident skiers, the ideal option is a couple of warm-up descents on blue slopes, and then skiing on more serious ones. Three days at the resort fly by, especially with apres-ski in cozy Czech restaurants. In total, the resort has 52 restaurants, 17 discos, nightclubs, bars, cinemas, and shops. If you have any energy left, you can spend time in the indoor pools, play tennis, squash, visit the fitness center and go paragliding. A free bus runs throughout the resort, so if you need to save money, you can choose a simpler hotel without being tied to the location; many hotels have their own minibuses.

Fans of winter sports, including extreme ones, have long chosen Czech ski resorts, which are famous for their well-equipped slopes and developed internal infrastructure. The local accommodation conditions will appeal to both budget tourists and people accustomed to relaxing in comfort.

Quality service in all aspects is par for the course in Czech mountain resorts. There are schools teaching the basics of safe driving, rental equipment is available, children's entertainment centers and health centers operate here. It’s easy to organize a relaxing evening at your own discretion: retire to a quiet cafe or have fun with the whole group in a bar. Further in the article we bring to your attention the best ski resorts in the Czech Republic.

In recent years, the ski resort Rokytnice nad Jizerou became the center of winter sports in the country. Since December there has been snow in the mountains. And the condition of the ski slopes is always maintained with snowmaking equipment. Skiers and snowboarders relax at the resort. The most extreme slopes are located in the ski centers - Lysa Gora and Studenov. There is a track for night skiing, because... it is illuminated. 30 rope tows and 2 chairlifts provide transportation of up to 2 thousand people per hour.

There are special trails with jumping boards for snowboarders. The resort's modern infrastructure includes a ski school and equipment rental. Those interested can go sledding or snowbiking. There are special trails for cross-country skiing. In winter there is an ice skating rink. The resort's sports center has a swimming pool.

Spa Spindleruv Mlyn

A famous Czech ski resort that meets all international standards. It is located in the Krkonose Nature Reserve and is located on three mountain peaks. The resort has a mild climate, which guarantees a comfortable active holiday. Špindlerův Mlýn consists of 5 ski areas, to which a ski bus runs and where a single ski pass applies. Each zone has a variety of trails that are suitable for both beginners and professional skiers. In addition to spacious slopes, the resort has three equipped snow parks with jumps - the best in the Czech Republic. In addition, a bobsleigh track was recently built here (although it is more suitable for amateurs).

There are 25 km of cross-country ski trails along the mountain range. Skiing lessons are provided by professional instructors for beginner skiers and children. There are ski equipment rental and repair centers in all ski areas. Very often, international competitions are held at the Spindleruv Mlyn resort. Other activities include a climbing wall, ice skating rink, sledding, snow biking and snow tubing.

The Krkonose Mountains are the most popular terrain among skiers in the Czech Republic. I especially loved Mount Snezka, the highest point in the country. A resort is located at the foot of the mountains Pec under Snezka. There are slopes for skiers of all skill levels, slopes for snowboarders and a ski school. The Krkonoše resort is known for its high-quality slopes, cable cars (3 cable cars) and ski lifts. There is a track for night skiing. The length of all trails is 4 km.

Since this ski resort is located on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland, at the foot of the Black and Svetla Mountains, locals call it “the gateway to the Giant Mountains.” From the name itself it becomes clear that the resort Janske Lazne There are healing mineral springs. Thanks to them, as well as excellent ski slopes, this resort has turned into a center of sports and health tourism. Therefore, vacationers come here both in summer and winter.

The ski resort Janske Lazne is part of the large ski area in the Giant Mountains, so the ski pass is valid throughout the entire ski area. Resort Liberec/Jested

At the foot of the Jezer Mountains is the city of Liberec, and just a few kilometers away there is a ski resort Jested, just on the mountain of the same name. The resort has a wonderful mild climate, which makes rest and skiing in the mountains comfortable. Snow cannons are installed on the ski slopes, which allows you to keep the snow cover stable and even throughout the season.

Both skiers and snowboarders will find entertainment here. For the more experienced, there is a “black” track with steep turns. This year, the resort built a new cable car and opened a snow park with jumps. There are special cross-country ski trails for runners. Experienced instructors teach children skiing skills at the ski school. And in kindergarten, kids can also have fun on winter attractions.

Just like Janske Lazne, a ski resort Harrachov located near the Giant Mountains and the Devil's Mountain. With a large amount of snow falling and thanks to the dense forest, the slopes at the resort do not even have to be snowed with cannons - the snow is dry and lies for a long time. This is one of the oldest ski resorts in the Czech Republic. The first ski jump was built in 1920. Today there are already 5 ski jumps here, ski jumping championships are often held, which is why the city is called the “City of Ski Jumps”.

Harrachov and 4 other small resorts in this region form a common ski area, which is covered by a single ski pass. For fans of off-piste skiing there are quite a lot of slopes. Snowboarders will love the snow park, where they can perfect their tricks and challenging jumps. The resort is suitable for all categories of skiers. There are cross-country ski trails. There is a ski school. On weekends and holidays there is nowhere for the apple to fall, because... Prague residents with whole families love to visit here. Some ski, others sled or snowbike. Those who do not know how to ski can go to an ice skating rink or a sports center with a swimming pool.

At least a ski resort Black Dul and small, but it is popular with skiers. The fact is that it has wide pistes that are perfect for beginner skiers and intermediate-level athletes. The ski pass is also valid in the neighboring resorts of Spindleruv Mlyn, Pec pod Snezku and Janske Lazne. So, if you wish, you can go for a day or two to the “black” slopes of the more famous resorts of the Czech Republic.

The Cerny Dul resort has several trails that are illuminated at night. Snow cannons are installed almost everywhere, so the snow cover is always good and you can ride until April.
