Lake Ice Shackles - an innovation that came to World of WarCraft with the release of the Wrath Of The Lich King addon. Lake of Ice Shackles - PvP location (the only one on this moment, as far as I know), where the “Battle for Ice Lake” event periodically occurs. About the Lake of Ice Shackles (abbreviated OLO) and the battle for it we'll talk In this article.

A player who comes to the Lake of Ice Shackles for the first time simply does not know what to do and simply runs around the entire location. Actually, the presence of a large number of newcomers on either side leads to an invariable loss.

First, you need to somehow get to the Lake. The easiest way is to use the portal in Dalaran. The portal to the Lake only exists if the Lake is under your faction's control or during a battle.

For the Alliance, the portal is located in the Silver Enclave.

Also, the Lake of Ice Shackles can be reached using flying transport. However, in the location itself, flying is prohibited, so when you fly into the Lake of Ice Shackles, you will be in a hurry. For this reason, having flown into the Lake, I advise you to descend as quickly as possible.

Once you get to the Lake of Ice Shackles during the battle, I advise you to immediately take on the quests (so that the battle is not in vain). There are, in my opinion, 4 or 5 quests. The quests are weekly (there used to be daily ones, but the developers decided that this was too much). For completing quests you will receive gold, Honor Points and Stone Guardian Shards. You should know what to do with Honor Points and Stone Guardian Shards if you read this article.

Actually, what should you do on the Lake of Ice Shackles? The main goal is to capture the fortress. There are two sides - defenders and attackers. Those who won the battle in the previous battle are the defenders, and those who lost are the attackers.

I would like to note that the fortress can only be captured during the “Battle of Ice Lake” event. During this event, siege engines, catapults and other weapons become available, with the help of which the fortress is captured.

The defenders initially begin their actions in the fortress. In the fortress, on the towers, there are cannons that can be destroyed, but after some time they will be restored. Destroyed towers and walls will not be restored until the end of the battle.

Also, defenders can build siege weapons. Initially, their number is limited to 8 guns.

The attackers, in turn, must capture factories for the production of siege weapons and only after that storm the fortress.

At the very beginning of the battle, you cannot use siege weapons. To do this, you need a special rank, which can be obtained by killing players of the opposite side. The higher your rank, the more types of siege weapons you can purchase.

In order to purchase a siege weapon, you need to go to the factory and talk to the goblin.

Each side can have a limited number of siege weapons, which depends on the number of captured factories. If the gun limit is reached, you will either have to wait for one of the guns to become free, or go into battle without it.

Tactics on the Lake of Ice Shackles

The main requirement for defenders and attackers is to assemble a raid (or several, if there are many willing). Because in a raid, players act much more effectively than in groups or alone.

Tactics for Defenders

Immediately after the battle begins, occupy the cannons. It is advisable that the cannons be occupied on all sides of the fortress. You don't need a rank to use cannons.

As soon as you see enemies, immediately start shooting, don’t let them get close. Leave the guns only if absolutely necessary. Once the cannon is destroyed, your task is to escape from the platform as quickly as possible.

If all the cannons are occupied, then you need to purchase some kind of siege weapon, for example, a catapult. At long range the catapult is very effective. After purchasing a siege weapon, you should not go alone against a crowd of enemies; wait for a few more people on military equipment and a few more infantry.

You can get out of the fortress using siege weapons using portals located inside the fortress.

You can also send a detachment to capture one of the factories for the production of siege weapons. By capturing the plant, you will reduce the number of enemy siege weapons and increase your own.

And one more piece of advice. Read the raid chat and listen to the words of the raid leader (if the raid leader is smart, he won’t say nonsense). The fortress cannot be defended alone; clear, coordinated group actions are needed.

Tactics for attackers

Immediately after the start of the battle, you saddle up the transport and the group goes to one of the factories for the production of siege weapons. By the time you capture the factory, your rank will likely be high and you will be able to purchase most siege weapons.

Buy a siege weapon and, together with the rest of the raid members, go to storm the fortress. It is important that all machines are concentrated in one place. Because one by one they will be destroyed very quickly. If you don't have enough siege weapons, go as an infantryman and stay close to other players and siege weapons.

The main task of the infantry is to destroy the infantrymen of the opposite side, as well as the guns. Simply put, the main goal is to protect the siege weapons and give them the ability to destroy walls and towers.

The main task of the attackers is to penetrate the fortress and destroy the main gate.

Again, be sure to read the raid chat and do not forget that the game is group.

Why is the battle for the Lake of Ice Shackles necessary?

Well, first of all, it’s very interesting. Secondly, you can get a lot of Honor Points for the battle, which can be spent on purchasing PvP items. Honor points, in large quantities, you will receive not only for completing quests, but also for killing players of the opposite faction. For one battle (without quests) I get about 3000 honor points. Also, for quests you will receive gold and Stone Guardian Shards. Also, you can get gold from killed players - approximately 1 gold drops from one player.

By the way, those who control the Lake of Icy Shackles get access to the raid instance “Crypt of Archavon”.

OK it's all over Now. Anyone who has not yet been to the Lake of Ice Shackles should definitely go there after reading this article.

Icegrasp Lake is the smallest location in Northrend, bordering Sholazar Basin, Dragonblight, and Icecrown. This zone is a PvP location, so PvP mode is automatically enabled for all players in it. This rule does not change anything for characters on PvP servers, but for players from the RP and Normal worlds it may seem unusual, although fair. The Lake of Ice Shackles can be reached using personal flying transport, which makes access to this location almost impossible for players below level 77; however, low-level characters can still get to the lake using the services of a Warlock or a portal that opens in Dalaran.

Preparing for battle
An hour before the start of the battle for the Lake of Ice Shackles, a special NPC living in Dalaran (Sorcerer Bradin for the Alliance and Magister Surdiel for the Horde) announces the imminent battle. He will repeat his battle call 30, 15, 10 and 5 minutes before the start of the battle to warn all players in Dalaran that access to the Lake will soon be opened. When the battle begins, a portal opens in the Argent Enclave (Alliance) and Sunreaver's Retreat (Horde), allowing players to easily enter the battlefield.

Rules

The faction that won the previous battle for Icegrasp Lake defends Icegrasp Fortress, while the opposing faction attempts to capture it.
Both factions can destroy or capture goblin towers and workshops scattered throughout the zone. To capture a fortress, the attacking faction must break down the walls of the fortress using siege weapons.
After capturing the Ice Shackles Fortress, the faction controls it for approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, after which a new battle begins, which lasts until the fortress is captured by the other side, but no more than 30 minutes. The status of Icegrasp Lake can be viewed on the map of Northrend. If the battle is not going on, then the sign of the Horde or Alliance will be drawn on the location, depending on who controls the Lake; if you see a PvP sign, then the battle for the Lake of Ice Shackles is in full swing.
If you want to know how much time is left until the next battle for the Lake, you can either talk to your faction NPC in Dalaran or enter the zone.

Ranks
When you enter a location, you receive the rank of Recruit. After killing 5 players of the opposing faction or 5 NPC guards, you receive the rank of Corporal, which allows you to buy Catapults from goblin workshops and control them. After killing 10 players, you gain the rank of First Lieutenant, which allows you to purchase and control Destroyers and Siege Engines.
The number of Ice Lake Badges you receive directly depends on the rank you received during the battle. After patch 3.0.8, you receive 1 badge of honor for the rank of Recruit, 2 for the rank of Corporal and 3 for the rank of First Lieutenant.

Game process
The battle for Icegrasp Lake takes place like a standard siege. The task of the attacking side is to capture the fortress before the battle ends. The defenders need to prevent this. Once the fortress is captured by the attackers, the battle immediately ends and control of the fortress passes to the winners.
The attacking side must reach the large orange sphere (relic) inside the fortress. One of the players must activate the orb within 10 seconds (an action similar to capturing the flag on other battlegrounds). If he manages to do this, then the battle is considered completed in favor of the attackers. The activation of the relic can be interrupted by damage.
On the way to the relic, the attackers will encounter 3 walls that they will have to destroy. The first wall runs along the outer perimeter of the fortress: you can break it anywhere, thereby breaking into one of the three outer courtyards. The outer courtyard at the front of the fortress is empty - only NPCs live there. In the eastern and western outer courtyards are goblin workshops that supply machines for the defending side. Next, the attacking side must break into the courtyard, where higher-level NPCs are located. And finally, the last obstacle is the massive gates of the fortress itself. After this barrier is overcome, the attackers gain access to the relic.

Towers
The fortress has 4 towers located in the corners formed by the intersection of the walls. The attacking side has 3 towers in the southern part of the location. For each destroyed tower belonging to the attacking side, the defending side receives bonus honor points.
Turrets are installed in the towers, with which players can destroy players of the opposing faction and their vehicles. These turrets deal serious area of effect (AoE) damage (up to 5000 damage on a good hit) and fire with a short delay, making them indispensable for defense. Turrets can be destroyed by siege engines or players; after a certain period of time they appear again.
Since patch 3.0.8, each of the towers owned by the attacking side gives a buff that adds 5% to all damage dealt; This buff can stack up to 3 times, giving a total of an additional 15% damage. If the defending side destroys the tower, then this bonus goes to it. This system was introduced to assist the attackers in capturing the fortress, and also to give the defenders an incentive to leave the fortress walls.
When all three towers are destroyed, the battle duration is reduced by 10 minutes. In most cases, this results in the end of the battle, since by the time the third tower is destroyed there is usually less than 10 minutes left until the end of the battle.

Goblin Workshops
Each faction has 2 workshops that cannot be captured by the enemy. For the defending side, these 2 workshops are located inside the fortress itself; To leave the fortress while driving a car, you need to use a teleport. The attacking side has workshops in the spaces between the three towers in the southern part of the location. They can be destroyed by machines controlled by players of the opposing faction; workshops will not reappear during the battle.
2 more workshops are located closer to the fortress. At the beginning of the battle, they belong to the defending side, but can be captured by the attackers. Capturing workshops is the same as capturing towers on Hellfire Peninsula and the Eye of the Storm battlefield; the side whose representatives are in the majority near the workshop will eventually capture it. Capturing these workshops not only allows you to build cars closer to the fortress, but also increases the total number of cars available for production. At the moment, these workshops can only be destroyed by representatives of a faction that does not control Ice Lake; If the workshops are under the control of the attacking side, then the defending side cannot destroy them, it can only capture them.

Cars

A distinctive feature of Icegrasp Lake is its siege weapons, which can be used to destroy buildings and towers.
If you want to build a vehicle, you will need to achieve the rank of Corporal or higher (the process for obtaining ranks is described above). Once a car is created, it can be controlled by any player. Machines are created in goblin workshops belonging to your faction. These workshops can be captured or destroyed by players of the opposing faction.

The main purpose of creating siege weapons is to destroy objects such as walls, towers and goblin workshops; You can also use them to destroy cars controlled by players of the opposite faction. The vehicles have fairly high health points, but they are very poorly armored, which makes it possible to destroy them with conventional attacks. Often, a player without any equipment can destroy an enemy machine faster than a player operating a turret or other siege machine.

Catapults throw barrels of infection along a ballistic trajectory, which, when ruptured, cause small periodic damage over an area, thereby damaging players, the vehicles they control, and structures. They can also create a wave of fire that damages players and their vehicles in a cone in front of the Catapult; buildings are not damaged by this attack.
. Destroyers throw flaming boulders along a ballistic trajectory, which cause moderate damage to buildings, players and the vehicles they control. They can also use a ram, which deals damage to all players, vehicles and buildings in a cone in front of them. Passengers on Destroyers can be attacked, but are also capable of attacking and defending themselves.
. Siege engines also use a ram to deal damage in a cone in front of them, they deal maximum damage to buildings with this attack. They also have a cannon, which is controlled separately by one of the passengers. This cannon throws huge boulders along a ballistic trajectory, causing great damage. Passengers of the Siege Engine cannot be attacked, but they themselves are not able to attack while they are inside the machine.
. Icegrasp Shredder, Icegrasp Fighter, and Icegrasp Bomber are not currently in the game. Access to these machines may be made available in a future content patch; perhaps they exist now, but require obtaining a title that is not yet available. On January 11, 2009, one of the players posted on the American game forum information received from the GM, according to which these machines will definitely not be added in the current patch (3.0.8).

Lake of Ice Shackles and PvE
Control of the Lake of Ice Shackles also affects the PvE component of the game.
When your faction controls the Lake, you will receive Stone Guardian Shards from every boss in the Northrend dungeons. These shards can be used to purchase PvP equipment and recipes for Jewelcrafting. The faction that controls the Lake also gains access to the raid dungeon - the Crypt of Archavon, located inside the Icegrasp Lake Fortress. Like other raid dungeons, Crypt of Archavon has Normal and Heroic modes.
At Icegrasp Lake you can find Northrend ore and grass, as well as crystallized elements. These elements drop from elementals of a certain type; any type of elemental can be found on the Lake. You can also meet more powerful elementals of each type - the Afterlifers, who are guaranteed to leave 1 element and up to 3 more elements after their death. The Sepulchers are visible only to representatives of the faction that controls the Lake of Ice Shackles.
Northern Lotus can also be found in its pure form at the Lake of Ice Shackles.

OLO – Lake of Ice Shackles. In WoW, it is an open combat zone located in the center of the Northrend continent. Players will have to capture strategic points, destroy towers and fortresses while controlling equipment, and complete tasks for military leaders. The ultimate goal in playing OLO is:

  • capturing a relic for the attacking side
  • protection of the relic for the defending side

The battle on the Lake of Ice Shackles can involve 120 people on each side. Despite the fact that this is an open PvP zone, in order to enter into battle you must queue up. A battle on OLO begins approximately every 2.5 hours and lasts up to 30 minutes. At the beginning of the battle, one of the sides currently controlling the fortress begins to defend it. The other seeks to capture the fortress. The fortress is captured if the enemy makes his way to the relic and captures it. To do this, you need to use bombs or equipment to destroy the walls.

OLO has implemented a system of ranks, which are obtained for a certain number of kills. A higher rank allows you to receive more powerful siege engines and more marks for winning a battlefield. Although this battlefield cannot fully host premades, the ability to go head-to-head with the best players will allow you to score quick victories and hone your playing skills.

Tactics on the Lake of Ice Shackles

The tactics in OLO are quite simple: you need to capture military factories as quickly as possible in order to gain access to heavy equipment. At the same time, the attacking side must purposefully make its way to the enemy’s fortress, and the defending side must destroy the southern towers in order to minimize the battle time. Skillful tactical moves are rarely made due to the difficulty of managing such a mass of players, but especially talented leaders still somehow direct energy in the right direction =).

Contested territory: Lake of Ice Shackles (Wintergrasp)

IN world of Warcraft has a lot of interesting and incomprehensible things for beginners. With the release of WotLK, a lot of content and interesting things have been added. One of these innovations was the global PvP location: Lake of Ice Shackles. An event periodically takes place there: the Battle for the Lake of Ice Shackles. When an inexperienced player gets there, he simply doesn’t know what to do or how to behave. Therefore, in this guide I will try to clarify and tell you the features.

How to get to Lake of Ice Shackles?

In patch 3.2, the mechanics of getting into OLO have changed slightly. Now a limited number of people take part in the battle on OLO. You can get into the lake at OLO 15 minutes before the start through the PVP interface (button “H” in English). Also, those who were at the OLO before the start will get in line.

But the number of players is limited to 120 people on each side. There may be more applicants for OLO, so a random selection is made among the players in the queue. There is a slight priority for players lvl 80, but everyone can participate.

You can see when the next battle will start from the PVP interface or by looking at the map while in Northrend.

Quests on the Lake of Ice Shackles?

There are several quests you can take on on the Lake, you can find them all at the link. Quests give experience, gold, honor and guardian fragments. It is advisable to take quests at the beginning of the battle (many of them are daily ones), and during the battle you will complete them. What you didn’t do, you’ll finish in three hours with the next battle.

With patch 3.1, quests changed from daily to weekly. The reward for them has been increased, but they can only be completed once a week. Update seems to be on Tuesday. But for one quest they give 10 fragments and 3xxx honor.

We will discuss what to do with honor and fragments below.

The meaning of the Battle of Ice Lake

There is a fortress, which is the main goal of the battle. There are defenders and there are attackers (horde or alliance). The one who captured the fortress in the previous battle defends the fortress in the next one. The point is to capture the titan relic during the attack and prevent it from being captured during the defense.

Types of combat and defensive vehicles on the Lake of Ice Shackles

About the defenders there are defensive cannons that stand in the towers. These cannons can be broken, but after a while they are restored again, towers can be destroyed and will not be restored until the end of the battle. Losing three towers reduces the battle time by 10 minutes.

In addition, there are catapults and other siege weapons. Their number depends on the number of captured factories. Initially, defenders can build up to 8 siege machines. The attackers should occupy the factories. Control over each of the factories gives +4 cars.

Catapults are effective against infantry and have little effect against walls and towers.

Destroyers and siege engines are good at breaking down walls and are not effective against infantry. For this reason, they require infantry cover.

How to build catapults on the Lake of Ice Shackles?

At the beginning of the battle, you cannot build a catapult. To do this, you need to earn a rank by killing 10 (I think) members of the opposing faction. After that, go to the factory, talk to the goblin, he will build you a siege weapon, after which you get into it (this is automatic). If your side already has maximum siege weapons, then you can either wait or go for a melee attack.

The higher your rank, the more powerful siege engines you can build.

By the way, at the moment, killing NPCs also counts. For this reason, do not rush to kill the guards and kill them as the battle begins.

General strategy for the Battle of Icegrasp

First of all, ask for a raid party in the general channel. With patch 3.2, raids are created automatically. The raid is always more effective, and the chances of winning the battle are much higher. Coordination of raids is also necessary, otherwise you will end up with a herd of sheep rushing around the OLO.

For attackers:

Find out the tactics from the RL and the objectives of your raid. Try to reach the second rank to be able to build destroyers and precipitation.

Please note that the number of vehicles is limited, so it is better to refrain from building catapults when attacking a fortress. It is better to build destroyers and siege engines. If you haven't reached rank two yet and can't build them, ask someone to build you a car.

Don't run alone. It is more effective to act in large groups. To attack, it is first better to group 5-10 siege machines and hit one point.

If your siege weapon is broken, continue the battle hand-to-hand. After death, you will occupy a new siege weapon. This is useful for the team, melee attacks are not much weaker than siege weapons, they just cannot break walls. But enemies and their siege weapons can be broken.

If you don’t get a car or you can’t build one, go cover the cars. Infantry support is greatly needed.

The main task is to get inside the fortress and break the main gate leading to the relic of the titans. After this, you need to check the ball (relic of the titans).

For defenders:

A defensive weapon can be occupied with rank zero. Therefore, first of all, take a free defensive weapon (cannons on the ledges of the walls).

Shoot at anything that moves and looks like an enemy. Leave your post as a last resort. It happens that at one moment the eastern tower is attacked, and then the attack is suddenly transferred to the unprotected western side. Listen to the chat and follow the markers on the map; if you are lucky with a smart leader, then coordinated actions are the key to success.

Also an important task is to break the attacking towers. This will reduce the battle time by 10 minutes, and it will be easier to hold the fortress. When capturing the towers, go south, occupy factories, build cars and go destroy the towers.

It is also important to recapture the factories from the attackers. This will reduce the number of their vehicles, and attacks on the fortress will be weaker.

When defending against infantry, catapults are effective. Throw plague barrels at the holes in the walls and burn the infantry with fire.

Why is all this needed?

The main thing is that it is very interesting! But a small bonus - in one battle you can get a lot of honor and guardian shards. You can get a good set for honor. for fragments, stones to improve things, recipes for jewelers (there are so many recipes), mounts and much more. This way you just get yourself some currency to buy things, while getting a lot of fun. The merchant stands on a mammoth in the fortress. To purchase, you need to have the fortress under your control. For medals from the lake you can buy good PVP epics.

Yes, and it’s better to go to the lake with lvl 80, although players of lvl 77 can also play, and being in technology they are no less effective, it will just be more difficult to raise the rank.
