In 2017, the Kingdom of Morocco included Russia on the list. Since 2005, Russian tourists can stay in Morocco for up to 90 days, without the need for a special visa. This regime is valid only for citizens who visit the state for the purpose of tourism. To work, study, do business or permanent residence, you must obtain a visa.

How to visit Morocco without a visa

To visit the Kingdom of Morocco for the purpose of recreation and tourism, there is no need to apply for a visa. According to customs rules in 2017, citizens of the Russian Federation have the right to stay in the kingdom without a visa, for a maximum of 90 days.

The requirements for citizens of the Russian Federation are:

  • You must have a valid foreign passport; the document must not expire in less than 6 months.
  • To cross Moroccan customs, you need a correctly completed migration card for each person, including children with a passport.
  • There must be a free page in the passport to apply a special stamp. This mark has a special number; it is assigned to each Russian citizen when passing through Moroccan customs.
  • When crossing the border, it is necessary to comply with generally accepted norms of behavior and rules for importing cargo.
  • To visit the Kingdom, one of the parents together with the child needs a power of attorney from the other parent. When a child is accompanied by third parties, then a notarized power of attorney from both parents is required.
  • The citizen must have valid health insurance.
Important! It is allowed to bring any international currency into Morocco. In the Kingdom itself, only the national currency is the dirham. It is prohibited to export dirhams outside Morocco.

When passing through customs, they may additionally require a return ticket, a hotel reservation, or an extract from the citizen’s personal bank account. These measures are carried out very rarely, if a person has some doubts.


Do I need a transit visa for Morocco?

At the end of the 90-day period, the Russian must leave the country. If you go to another country, for example, Tunisia, then you can come again and stay in Morocco for up to 3 months, without a visa. A transit visa to Morocco is not required for Russian citizens.

Sometimes, in order to get to Morocco, it is necessary to make several transfers in other countries; you may need to apply for a visa from the state that is transit. For example, to make a transfer in Spain, you need a Schengen visa. Some travel agencies offer assistance in preparing documents, this will significantly save time, but the price of this service is set according to the intermediary’s tariffs.

Work Visa

A work visa to Morocco for Russians is issued if the purpose of coming to the kingdom is work. This mark is made by the embassy when the person has already agreed on this vacancy with the future employer. In addition, the enterprise to which a person is invited must be officially registered in Morocco.

A work visa is issued if you have the following documents:

  • Application form.
  • Photo format 3x4 cm, 4 pieces.
  • Invitation letter from the employer.
  • Certificate from previous place of work or copy of work record book.
  • A copy of the receipt for payment of the state fee for obtaining a visa.
  • International passport.

A foreign passport must be valid for the entire period of a person’s stay in the country. The amount of the fee depends on the period for which the work visa is issued. The current cost of the fee can only be found at the embassy itself. Russians must contact the embassy, ​​which is located in Moscow. Other CIS countries are required to contact the consulates to which they are assigned. For example, citizens of Belarus can also apply to the Moscow Embassy, ​​residents of Uzbekistan will only be able to submit papers to the Turkish Embassy of Morocco, which is located in Ankara.

student visa

If you want to get an education, you need a visa to Morocco. Short-term courses and master classes do not fall under this category. Any educational institution, be it an academy or a college, must send an invitation to study indicating the details of a foreign citizen.

To register you need:

  • international passport;
  • application for registration;
  • 4 photos taken no later than 6 months before submitting documents;
  • an invitation letter from the educational institution, which indicates the full coordinates of the educational institution, as well as the conditions under which the citizen will be enrolled;
  • data on the citizen’s place of stay (hotel reservation, rental agreement, etc.);
  • confirmation of payment of the visa fee (copy or original of the receipt).

A student visa is issued for 90 days; after this period, a residence permit must be issued. This is necessary to be able to permanently stay in the kingdom for the period of study.

The passport must be valid for the entire duration of the person’s stay in Morocco.


Long-term visa

This type of permit, despite the name, is issued only for three months. The purpose of the trip may be a visit that is not related to business or tourism. Such a mark will be needed, for example, for a scientific conference, research expedition, work trip or exchange of experience.

In addition to your passport, you must present to the embassy:

  • application form for receiving;
  • letter of invitation or other documents confirming the purpose of the trip;
  • 1 photo, 3*4 format;
  • round trip tickets (copies are available);
  • hotel reservation or rental agreement;
  • a copy of a certificate confirming the permanent registration of a citizen in the territory of the Russian Federation;
  • medical insurance.

Any visa is issued within 1-4 weeks after submitting documents. The current cost is 2905 rubles. When considering an application, a citizen may be called for an individual interview to clarify the data.

Entrepreneur visa

Do you need a visa to Morocco to run your own business or implement affiliate programs? When carrying out any business activity, a specialized visa is required. It is issued only for three months, but it can be issued several times in a row.


To receive, you must present:

  • international passport;
  • application for extradition;
  • 4 photos taken no more than 6 months ago;
  • a letter from Moroccan business partners, it must confirm the fact of future cooperation;
  • a letter of recommendation from a Russian company whose interests will be represented in Morocco;
  • documentary evidence that the citizen will have permanent residence in the kingdom, this can be: a hotel reservation, a rental agreement or a real estate purchase and sale agreement;
  • a copy of the receipt confirming payment of the registration fee.

The cost of the fee also depends on the current tariffs and the period of stay of the citizen in Morocco.

Long term stay in Morocco

Since the validity period of any visa can only last 3 months, foreign citizens are forced to renew their documents and apply for a residence permit. You can extend your visa for 3,6,12 months. When applying for a residence permit, the period of legal stay in Morocco can be extended for the first time by 1 year, then by 5 and 10 years. When living in Morocco for more than 6 years, Russians already have the right to obtain citizenship.


Russians who study or work in Morocco need to obtain a residence permit.

Important! To obtain a residence permit, you must submit documents no later than 15 days before the expiration date of the visa .

To obtain a residence permit, it is enough to contact the territorial police department of Morocco and provide the following documents:

  • 2 copies of international passport;
  • 6 standard photos for documents;
  • a copy of the marriage certificate (if the person is married);
  • documentary proof of place of residence (lease agreement, certificates of real estate, etc.);
  • certificate of availability of an account in a Moroccan bank;
  • a certificate of the citizen’s financial condition (you can provide an account statement);
  • medical insurance for the entire period of stay in Morocco.
