The black pyramid attracted me for a long time, but in the summer I never got to it. And then, when heavy snowfalls began, I looked at her from the office window and the light bulb above my head turned on. Why not?! The snow-capped peak of one of the most beautiful Peaks of Mount Aibgi! Gorgeous! All that remains is to find a company. And the company itself found me - a comrade in the PVD Electronic Dolphin he asked if I had any plans for Saturday. Well, we've decided, let's go!


On the morning of November 14, we met at the station. Esto-tank and moved to the Mountain Carousel lift. The cable car just started working after routine maintenance, so we were the first to climb on it already at 09:00 in the morning, from elevation. 1460 to mark. We didn’t even have time to turn on the 2200 lift, but literally after 3-4 minutes it still started working. So, we are at elevation. 2200, here the first surprise awaited us - a helicopter was throwing cargo onto the mountain! It made a great impression on me, I have never seen a helicopter so close, and the wind, along with a fresh snowball in the face, is very refreshing before the ascent! :)

Having looked at the views from “lookout 2200” we realized that the cable cars of Circus-2 were not working and therefore we carefully moved on foot, while we were descending to Circus-2 rescuers passed us on skis on fresh “corduroy”... oh... that feeling when you already want to ride, and they do it right in front of your nose, like they took away a child’s candy and ate it... ahem... but somehow I’ve deviated from the topic.

We got a kick out of the mountain climatic uniqueness of Circus-2 and moved higher to cable car at elevation 2300, from which the ascent to the Black Pyramid actually begins. There was a lot of snow, the climb was not the easiest, in some places it fell almost waist-deep. It is good in places where it is very difficult to stretch a rope, which you can grab onto and climb with it much easier.


Well, here are our last efforts and we are at the top! An indescribable feeling, so I’ll just post some of the photos and you’ll understand everything!





At the top we decided not to linger too long; the sun was going down below the mountains, although we got there very quickly and it was only about half past noon. Going down to elevation. 2300, drank tea from a thermos and walked back to elevation. 2200. At 15:00 we were already at the lower level of the Mountain Carousel.

It turned out to be a great walk, the first ones walked on the fresh snow at the top and got a lot of impressions!

P.S. A huge request, if you are not confident in your abilities, do not repeat!!! Not everyone can climb this peak in such deep snow. Assess the situation realistically, mountains are not a toy!

The system of lifts and ski slopes, as well as the entire infrastructure at the Gorki Gorod resort, was built for the 2014 Winter Olympics. After winter Olympic Games the resort has not ceased to be popular, having transformed into an all-season resort. All objects of the Gorki Gorod resort are located on four levels: “Lower City” at an altitude of 540 meters above sea level, “Upper City” at an altitude of 960 meters, at an altitude of 1500 meters and 2200 meters - observation decks, ski slopes, eco-routes and restaurants.

Of the 13 cable car lifts, 9 operate in excursion mode in the summer. If you have planned a one-day trip to Gorki Gorod, it is better to arrive early in the morning to have time to visit more attractions at the resort.

The Gorki Gorod resort is located in the village of Esto-Sadok in the valley of the Mzymta River, which is 40 kilometers from international airport Sochi. You can get to the resort by bus, taxi or Lastochka train. It is worth noting that car sharing is very popular in Sochi.

The main attraction of the resort in the summer season is, of course, the cable car. Cost of a walking ticket for the Gorki Gorod cable car in the summer of 2019:

  • one ascent/descent from 540 meters to 960 meters (“Upper City”)
    • adult - 300 rubles,
    • children's - 200 rubles;
  • one ascent/descent from 540 meters to 2200 meters (“Panorama”)
    • adult - 1400 rubles,
    • children's - 850 rubles.

The excursion ride on the Gorki Gorod cable car to the Black Pyramid peak takes place with transfers at stations. To get to the destination, you need to make several transfers between gondola and chairlift cable cars: K1 - K2 - K3 - K4 - K5. So, let's go! Into the mountains!



Important! If you decide to visit the resorts of Krasnaya Polyana, be sure to take warm clothes with you, because in the mountains the air temperature is lower than on the Black Sea coast. The temperature in the alpine zone, at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, does not rise above 15 °C in summer.





Observation deck at an altitude of 960 meters - “Upper City”

The first lift K1 lifts from the “Lower City” from a height of 540 meters to 960 meters above sea level to the “Upper City”. The cable car cabins are gondola type, some with special mounts for mountain bikes. This was done because at the “Upper City” station there is a “Gorki Bike Park” with trails of varying difficulty for downhill - downhill mountain biking. Also from the Upper City station you can take a cable car to the Polikarya Waterfall eco-route if you have purchased a walking ticket for all the ski lifts.

At the Upper City station there is a large Observation deck, many restaurants and cafes. This is a forested mountain zone, so it’s worth stopping and walking a little around the station to enjoy the views and clean air.

Important! If you are a guest of one of the Upper Town hotels, then the climb to K1 will be free for you.

The second lift K2 is part of the main excursion route on the way to the top of the Aibga ridge. Already from the cabins of this lift there is a view of mountain range Pseashkho, which is located opposite the Aibga ridge, together they form the gorge of the Mzymta River. You can see the snow-capped peak in the center - Sakharny Peak with a height of 3189 meters, the peak to the left of the peak - Pseashkho Yuzhny with a height of 3251 meters, and to the right of Sakharny Peak - Kozhevnikov Peak 3070 meters. And in front of these peaks there is the Bzerpinsky cornice, which is a popular tourist route. walking route in the summer season.







The station is located at an altitude of 1460 meters above sea level. In just a few minutes, from the forest mountain zone you find yourself in the subalpine zone. The landscape and ambient temperature are changing. It is cooler here than at the “Lower City” and “Upper City” stations. In summer, the temperature in the subalpine zone does not rise above +24 °C. Not far from the station there is a rope park and an ecological route called “Relic Forest”. There is a fee to visit the rope park, but admission to the “Relic Forest” eco-route is free. If you have time, you should definitely take a walk along the eco-route among the majestic fir trees.

The third lift K3 takes you to a height of 2200 meters above sea level into the alpine meadow area. Here, at the top of the Aibga ridge, the most colorful ecological route called “Alpine Meadows” is laid out. The length of the route is 3 kilometers with a height difference of up to 150 meters, so it will take a lot of time to complete it. As a reward for determination, tourists will find stunning views along the eco-route along the mountain circus.









But on top station Not only the eco-route “Alpine Meadows” is interesting. On the K4 and K5 chairlifts you can make a dizzying descent into the neighboring mountain cirque, and an equally exciting ascent to the foot of the Black Pyramid. A real attraction 150 meters high awaits tourists on the K4 cable car. After a short gentle ride, the chairs of the K4 lift rush almost vertically downwards, exciting emotions are guaranteed for everyone, especially those sensitive to heights. Before taking the last cable car, you can take a walk to the Bear Falls or the Rhododendron Valley.





The last ascent on the K5 cable car leads to the foot of the Black Pyramid - the high peak resort "Gorki Gorod". The height of the peak is 2375 meters above sea level. There is an excursion climbing route to the top of the Black Pyramid, which can be completed with insurance under the supervision of an instructor.

From the top station of the K5 lift there are amazing views of another mountain circus. And from here you can see the Mountain Olympic Village on the Rosa Plateau, built at an altitude of 1170 meters above sea level at the Rosa Khutor resort.







An excursion ride on the Gorki Gorod cable car and a walk along some eco-routes of the resort can take the whole day. It will be quite difficult to visit all the natural attractions of the resort in one visit. But this is a good reason to return to the resort again.

It’s damp autumn in Moscow, and there, in the sunny south, there’s warm sun and pointed mountain peaks. I wanted to visit these mountains so many times in the fall, and then I was late again... Or not? We must hurry!!! On Gismeteo, starting from Thursday, all days are decorated with a sun icon and nights with stars. Previously read reports emerge from my memory, which spoke about periods of good weather in the fall! If you take Thursday-Friday off, you have four whole days at your disposal! My heart beat a hundred per minute. Chugush, Achishkho, Mzymta... Familiar names of mountains and rivers emerge from memory.

On Tuesday morning I call Natasha in Sochi. “Hello, Natalka, hello! If I arrive the day after tomorrow, will you go with me to the mountains for four days?” Natasha is “our person,” but I managed to surprise her too. My boss Katya (I category in mountaineering, climbing five-thousanders in the Pamirs) cannot help but let me go, and the persuasion of my colleagues leaves her no chance. At lunchtime I call Natasha in Sochi and simply say that I bought tickets. She says she's coming with me. Great!!! In the second half, I’ll create a post on the Kuban tourism forum. Last hour We walked along the path at dusk, and arrived at the camp in complete darkness. In such cases, GPS is very helpful - a backpack with a tent hidden in a dense forest was found without any problems!

Day 3

Today we have a difficult day ahead. First you need to go down to the village of Krasnaya Polyana, and this is a little, a lot minus 1200 meters, which is not bad for your beloved knees. But this is only half the trouble! Next we need to get to the Alpika Service cable car, ride it to the top of the second stage (it no longer works, maintenance before the start of the winter season) and then, from a height of 1100 meters, climb as high as possible in order to climb the Black Pyramid the next day !

The descent went without problems, although it took a lot of energy. In the first part there is a very sharp drop in height. The trail is excellent, but my knees were bursting at the seams :) We go down to the village, have lunch in a cafe at a Lukoil gas station and begin the second part of our program!!!

From the side of the village of Krasnaya Polyana, among the peaks of the Aibga ridge, the peak is especially expressive Black pyramid, where we are going or.
