Baggage rules Aeroflot was forced to change. However, these changes only benefited passengers. The fact is that before this, airline regulations did not allow baggage to be added together. Thus, for example, a family of two with one suitcase weighing more than what was allowed for one person had to pay extra or split things up. And this was contrary to Federal Aviation Regulations. The Moscow transport prosecutor's office decided to stand up for passengers and the law, which successfully protested the actions Aeroflot.

Now the rules for transporting baggage on Aeroflot aircraft have become fully compliant with the law, and Passengers traveling together can add their luggage together.

Baggage rules on Aeroflot aircraft 2018

Passengers using the services Aeroflot, have the right to carry a certain amount of baggage free of charge. Its quantity depends on the class of service that the client chooses. The only general rule for all classes of service is the total dimensions of one seat hand luggage should not exceed 115 cm, and one seat in the luggage compartment - 158 cm.

Passengers can take most of their belongings with them. Each ticket can accommodate two seats weighing 32 kg in the luggage compartment and one seat weighing up to 15 kg in the aircraft cabin. Passengers flying Comfort or Economy class at a Premium fare can also count on two pieces of luggage, but 32 kg each. The weight limit for hand luggage is also reduced for them to 10 kg. Customers who choose regular Economy class are allowed to carry the least amount of things with them - 1 piece weighing no more than 23 kg in the luggage compartment and one piece weighing up to 10 kg in the aircraft cabin.

By the way, the rules for carrying baggage on airplanes Aeroflot 2018 provide free luggage and for children. Thus, parents of children under two years old can count on one additional piece of luggage weighing up to 10 kg and total dimensions up to 110 cm. As for older children, aged from two to twelve years, the same standards apply for them as for adults .

If the passenger was unable to meet the described requirements, he will have to pay extra for extra items, as described in the baggage rules on airplanes Aeroflot 2018. For economy class, a second piece of luggage will cost an additional 2,500 rubles. However, subsequent seats, regardless of the class of service, cost 7,500 rubles. In case of an advantage, you will also have to allocate additional money.

Baggage rules Aeroflot made it so that if the weight of a suitcase is in the range from 23 to 32 kg, then passengers in economy and comfort classes will need to pay the same 2,500 rubles. The maximum weight is limited to 50 kg and is paid an additional 5,000 rubles. The situation is the same with overall dimensions - in the range of up to 203 cm you will have to pay an additional 5,000 rubles, and if it is exceeded, it will be 7,500 rubles.

At the end of 2017, President Putin V.V. a law was signed amending the " General rules air transport passengers, baggage, cargo and requirements for servicing passengers, shippers, consignees.” According to the adopted law, Russian airlines are introducing uniform rules for the carriage of baggage on planes, with the exception of Aeroflot's subsidiary Pobeda.

Current!

Let's take a look at what rules are relevant in 2019 for carrying luggage on an airplane.

According to the November law, new baggage allowances allow a bag or suitcase weighing up to 30 kg per piece. Less is allowed, more is not allowed. Each passenger is provided with individual luggage.

Important! Allowable weight things depend on the ticket category: economy, business or first class. The higher the ticket class, the more options available in terms of baggage capacity.

Separate luggage can be checked in for a child under two years of age. The weight of the bag should not exceed 10 kg.

There is no single global standard for all airlines. It is worth focusing on the country to which the passenger is flying. For example, when traveling to Dubai, items and literary publications of a religious nature, with the exception of Islam, are prohibited from being transported. Also consider the restrictions of each airline individually.

Excess baggage

So, if a passenger has purchased an economy class ticket, he can carry luggage weighing up to 23 kg. For larger cargo, the traveler must pay extra, but some air carriers allow a slight excess without additional payment.

If you know in advance that baggage will fall into the excess baggage category, check the cost of the surcharge with your air carrier.

Baggage over 30 kg – heavy luggage

Carrying baggage on an airplane: new rules equate weight over 30 kg to the heavyweight category. Previously Weight Limit was up to 32 kg.

For such cargo you have to pay extra for each kilogram. There are no uniform tariffs; each company sets the price at its own discretion.

In addition to excess weight, there may be excess dimensions in the sum of three dimensions. Such things include:

  • alpine skis and other large sports equipment;
  • musical instruments, for example, guitar, double bass;
  • household appliances, such as a refrigerator.

To transport such goods, a preliminary agreement with the company is required. Before your flight, contact customer support. On the day of departure, it is better to arrive at the airport in advance, as special cargo will take longer to register.

Some carriers allow free transportation ski equipment in winter or diving boards to resorts.

Companies have the right to refuse to transport oversized cargo if the cargo compartments are too small or there is not enough space.

Baggage free ticket

A number of airlines support baggage-free travel. According to it, the passenger flies only with hand luggage. This method has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include the low cost of flights. The negative side is that the tickets are non-refundable.

Consolidated baggage

For couples, traveling families, colleagues and friends there is a luggage consolidation service. You can put all your things in one suitcase, which will be counted as one piece of luggage.

Fragile luggage

When transporting glassware, electronics and decorative items, many passengers worry about the safety of things, because most often at airports suitcases are treated carelessly and thrown into a general dump.

In such situations, the traveler can check in baggage marked “fragile”. To do this, provide the information when registering your belongings, and the suitcase will not be allowed through the belt. The loaders will carry it to luggage compartment.

Note! The ability to check in fragile luggage does not guarantee the safety of the passenger's belongings.

It is better to take fragile items that meet the parameters of hand luggage into the aircraft cabin. The main thing is that things do not contain liquid. You will have to discard jars of jam and compotes by putting them in the luggage compartment.

Hand luggage

What weight of luggage is allowed on the plane? Changes to the air travel law that came into force in November limited the minimum weight of hand luggage. Previously, it was possible to carry at least 10 kg free of charge for non-refundable and refundable tickets, now the limit is from 5 kg.

Most carriers allowed you to carry a suitcase weighing 10 kg on board. There was an additional charge for luggage in the luggage compartment.

The new law means that the airline is required to take 5 kg or more into the cabin, but it is possible to increase the weight if desired. For example, S7, UTair and Aeroflot announced their intention to maintain the previous norm of 10 kg.

The following rules are currently in effect on the official Aeroflot website:

In addition, the list of free items for carrying on board in addition to hand luggage has undergone changes. We'll talk about them below.

What items can you take into the cabin without checking them in as hand luggage?

According to the old requirements, it was allowed to take the following things into the salon free of charge without weighing, tagging or registration:

  • costume;
  • laptop;
  • video camera;
  • camera;
  • mobile phone;
  • baby food for the duration of the flight in an unlimited flight;
  • baby carrier (folding cradle or folding stroller);
  • books, magazines, newspapers;
  • outerwear;
  • women's handbag;
  • briefcase;
  • a folder with papers and documents;
  • cane;
  • crutches;
  • umbrella;
  • bouquet of flowers.

Now the umbrella, laptop and cell phone are excluded from the list. The Ministry of Transport explained these changes as an opportunity to remove the listed items from the bag.

In addition, the list of free items has been supplemented with a new item - a backpack. The management of Pobeda Airlines confirmed the information that the carriage of backpacks will be allowed if its size fits into the established standards by the company.

For Pobeda, hand luggage restrictions will be 36x30x27, while the minimum ticket price starts from five hundred rubles.

Items allowed in hand luggage and on you

A passenger may wish to keep a number of items with him or her in hand luggage. These include:

  • carbon dioxide cylinders (used to activate artificial limbs);
  • glasses repair tools, including a screwdriver less than 50 mm long;
  • lighter or non-hazardous matches (only with you);
  • pacemaker;
  • other pharmaceutical devices, including those using radioactive isotopes, with lithium batteries. Allowed to be kept only with oneself;
  • robot toy;
  • razors, including disposable ones;
  • eyelash curler;
  • nitroglycerin tablets or spray for treatment;
  • oxygen cylinders for medical purposes;
  • injection needles for a passenger with diabetes or specialized medications.

Actions in case of loss

No one is protected from losing things during air travel. Items go missing while being loaded or unloaded into the luggage compartment, or they are accidentally sent on another flight.

In case of loss of personal belongings, follow the instructions:

  1. Make sure you have your baggage receipt on hand;
  2. Contact the missing items department with the form;
  3. Write a statement;

Within three weeks, the carrier chosen by the passenger is obliged to find the items and return them. The parcel is delivered to your home free of charge, and the client does not have to go anywhere or pay anything.

If you return damaged or missing luggage after three weeks, you can contact the company with a request to compensate for the losses.

If the carrier refuses to compensate for the damage, the citizen has the right to request a written refusal, with which he can go to court for further proceedings.

The Montreal Convention enshrines an international agreement that stipulates the maximum possible compensation for the loss of a bag - 1131 SDR (artificial reserve and payment instrument issued by the IMF). This is approximately $1500.

In practice, the figure depends on the specific carrier. Foreign companies on average they pay $20/kg. Large foreign airlines may pay the excess amount according to their internal rules. Russian airlines pay approximately 600₽.

If a passenger has lost luggage while on an international flight, they should apply for a search no later than a week after the date of receipt of the items.

On domestic flights It is allowed to file a claim within six months from the date of loss.

Standard compensation requires a description of the missing luggage. If you have receipts for lost items, you can present them with the application. Then you should expect a full or partial refund.

Advice! If you are transporting fragile or valuable items, insure them before the flight with declared value by paying an additional fee.

Rules for transporting baggage on an airplane although subject to federal and international laws, they may still have some differences. Each air carrier has the right to independently decide what restrictions to set. Uniform standards are applied only in terms of ensuring flight safety. Our article describes in detail what and how much you can transport on an airplane.

Baggage in the law: what governs the rules for the carriage of luggage by air

The rules for air transportation of passengers, baggage and cargo by Russian air carriers are regulated by the same order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation dated June 28, 2007 No. 82.

The provisions of the order apply to all internal and international flights ships civil aviation- both regular and charter. However, airlines are allowed to set their own rules for transportation, including baggage, provided that they do not contradict national and international standards.

Differences in rules, as a rule, relate to the dimensions of baggage, free baggage allowances, etc. That is, the provisions that are important for ensuring the safety of passengers and crew of the airliner remain unchanged.

Types of luggage

According to general rules, baggage carried by air passengers is divided into checked baggage, that is, to be transported in the luggage compartment, and unchecked baggage, which is hand luggage.

Checked baggage allowance

Requirements for the dimensions and weight of free checked baggage are established by air carriers. However, the differences are usually unimportant. The vast majority of airlines adhere to the generally accepted standard, according to which the baggage allowance is differentiated depending on the class of service and the tariff applicable within this class.

For example, Aeroflot - Russian Airlines accepts free of charge into the luggage compartment baggage whose parameters in the sum of 3 dimensions (length, height and width) do not exceed 158 cm. Moreover, for all groups of business class fares, 2 pieces of luggage are provided per 1 passenger , each of which can accommodate luggage no heavier than 32 kg.

The weight standards for baggage belonging to passengers flying in comfort or economy class at the Premium fare are slightly lower - 2 pieces of 23 kg each. For other economy class fares, only 1 piece of luggage weighing no more than 23 kg is provided free of charge.

Baggage exceeding the specified weight will have to be paid separately - in addition to the ticket price. The cost of transporting so-called excess baggage is also set by the air carrier. On average, for domestic flights it varies from 2,500 to 7,500 rubles. For international prices, prices are indicated in the currency of the European Union (euro), but payment, if accepted on the territory of Russia, is made in rubles at the Central Bank exchange rate on the date of settlement.

Baggage allowed for carriage as hand luggage

The general rules for air baggage transportation allow you to take into the cabin a bag or suitcase whose parameters in the sum of 3 dimensions do not exceed 115 cm (40 x 55 x 20). Such parameters allow you to easily fit luggage under the seat or on special shelf over it.

However, these standards do not apply to a number of things, such as:

Don't know your rights?

  • baby cradle and food (in case of transporting a child);
  • umbrella;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • cane;
  • handbag or briefcase;
  • folder for papers;
  • laptop;
  • camera and video camera;
  • mobile phone;
  • outerwear;
  • any printed publications (except for antique ones, which are subject to mandatory declaration and require compliance with special transportation rules);
  • crutches;
  • suit (in a suitcase);
  • a bag containing any goods purchased at Duty Free stores.

Important! Items from the above list may be transported in the aircraft cabin free of charge in excess of established norm. Such baggage is not subject to weighing, registration and registration and is not marked with tags, unlike all other types of hand luggage and items transported in the luggage compartment.

However, there are many restrictions, primarily due to security considerations. For example, any liquid, as well as gel and paste-like substances are allowed to be carried in the aircraft cabin in containers whose volume does not exceed 100 ml. Moreover, all of them must be packed in 1 plastic bag, and their total volume cannot exceed 1 liter. Everything that is in excess of the norm will have to be given to the mourners, left in the airport storage room, or, if you don’t mind, thrown away.

Important! These restrictions apply not only to water or other drinks, but also to various lotions, creams, perfumes, eau de toilette, as well as shaving or hair styling gels, shaving foams, deodorants (in any form), all types of pastes (including toothpaste), etc.

But baby food can be transported in any volume required by the child during the flight. The same applies to medications, but the passenger must confirm their need with the appropriate documents.

Drinks and other liquids, gels and pastes purchased at Duty Free can also be taken into the salon in any quantity. However, to do this, they need to be packaged and sealed at the purchase stage. The seal is valid for 24 hours. Similar requirements apply to goods purchased on board an aircraft.

Special luggage

Passengers who have certain health problems that require the transportation of special medical equipment or equipment will have to coordinate their luggage with the airline company in advance. So, as a general rule, you will need to obtain prior permission if you intend to take the following with you on the plane as baggage or hand luggage:

  • wheelchair and other devices for transporting patients, powered by batteries;
  • medical cylinders with gaseous oxygen or air (up to 10 kg).

At the same time, the packaging of such items must completely eliminate the possibility of gas and liquid leakage from the batteries, and also provide protection against tipping over and short circuits. In addition, the packaging must be marked with a corrosion hazard sign.

What can't be carried on an airplane

No airline will accept for carriage as baggage items the circulation of which is prohibited or restricted in Russia. An exception is provided for potent and other similar medications if the passenger has medical documentation confirming their prescription.

In addition, in order to ensure flight safety, the following cannot be transported either in the luggage compartment or in the cabin:

  • any types and forms of explosives (including items filled with them);
  • radioactive, toxic, oxidizing, flammable, poisonous, poisonous, caustic and corrosive liquids and solids;
  • gases in compressed and liquefied states;
  • gas, cold steel, firearms and traumatic weapons, with the exception of specialized flights (for example, during the extradition or other type of escort of a person in custody, if it is impossible to transport him by land).

Important! These prohibitions do not apply to mercury thermometers, tonometers and barometers, which are allowed to be carried in the amount of 1 piece. per passenger in a sealed package. The same applies to disposable gas lighters, non-hazardous aerosols, 3% hydrogen peroxide (they are subject to regulations for the transportation of liquids), dry ice for cooling perishable food (no more than 2 kg per person).

In addition to the listed items prohibited for transportation on an airplane, you cannot take any piercing or cutting objects with you into the cabin as hand luggage (even nail scissors are not allowed), as well as magnets - they can interfere with the operation of the ship’s instruments.

Important! On some routes there are additional restrictions on the number, types and sizes of baggage. To avoid unpleasant surprises, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the transportation rules established by a particular airline in advance. Passengers planning to fly with their pets should pay special attention to this. There are separate requirements for their transportation.

An airplane is, of course, not a train or a personal car. Of course, you can’t load it with too much luggage. Therefore, any airline has certain standards regarding the weight and dimensions of passengers’ personal belongings. Aeroflot is no exception in this regard. Passengers who have purchased tickets for a flight owned by this company can take luggage that is not too heavy or bulky.

Basic Concepts

All things carried by airplane passengers are usually divided into two main categories:

  • actual luggage;
  • hand luggage.

The last group consists of portable, lightweight personal belongings of airline customers. Passengers have the right to take them into the cabin with them. The passenger is responsible for the safety of hand luggage.

Baggage refers to larger and heavier items that are checked into a special compartment during check-in. Aeroflot, of course, is directly responsible for their safety. Passengers' luggage must be delivered by the company safe and sound and handed over to the client immediately after arriving at the destination airport.

Carry-on baggage regulations

The weight of items allowed for transportation without registration depends on the cabin class in which the passenger is flying. The more expensive a plane ticket is, the more privileges are provided to Aeroflot clients. Thus, business class passengers have the opportunity to take suitcases and bags with them into the cabin, the total weight of which does not exceed 15 kg. For the company’s clients who bought an economy or comfort class ticket, this figure is reduced to 10 kg. In this case, the sum of the length, width and height of the luggage transported must not exceed 115 cm.

There may be exceptions to the weight of non-checked items for certain flights. It is worth checking at the Aeroflot ticket office to find out which routes require different standards for the carriage of hand luggage. So, for example, passengers on the Moscow - Cancun flight in both business and economy class can carry no more than 5 kg of things.

Children from 2 to 12 years old have the right to take the same amount of hand luggage into the cabin of Aeroflot aircraft as adults.

Prohibited items

Thus, it is clear what standards are provided for by Aeroflot hand luggage by weight and dimensions. Of course, not all things can be transported on a company plane without registration. For example, Aeroflot prohibits passengers from taking too much into the cabin:

  • water;
  • cosmetics;
  • various types of aerosols;
  • soups

All products listed above must be placed in special packages. Moreover, the volume of each such product should not exceed 100 ml. If such products are packaged in containers with a capacity of less than 100 ml, they should be placed in a special 1 liter plastic bag with a zipper.

In some cases, Aeroflot, whose baggage allowance is strictly regulated, may make exceptions to these rules. For example, baby food or medicines, vital necessary for the passenger, can be transported in the cabin in quantities larger than 100 ml.

Among other things, it is not allowed to import meat and dairy products into the EU countries. Aeroflot passengers should also keep this in mind.

What things are not weighed?

An Aeroflot passenger can take some items into the cabin “by default.” That is, such things are not weighed and are not standardized in any way. Such items include, for example:

  • crutches;
  • mobile phone, laptop, camera or camera;
  • package from Duty Free;
  • umbrellas, canes and briefcases;
  • newspapers and magazines.

Of course, passengers' outer clothing is not weighed during the winter season.

Aeroflot baggage allowance: free transportation

The company transports oversized and heavy items of passengers, as well as hand luggage, free of charge. But, of course, only if their weight does not exceed that established by the standards. Baggage is checked into a special compartment of the aircraft, as already mentioned, during check-in at the airport. Its weight is also normalized depending on what class the passenger is flying.

For example, 23 kg for one piece and 46 kg for two - this is the 1PC baggage allowance. Aeroflot transports heavier items only for an additional fee. 1RS is a regular economy class. For business class passengers, these figures increase to 32 and 64 kg respectively.

Aeroflot charges additional fees for the transportation of items not only if their weight exceeds the standard. The company also has a price list for the number of pieces of luggage. Also, three dimensions of suitcases or bags for economy class should not exceed 158 cm, for business class - 203 cm.

Aeroflot: excess baggage allowance

The payment for the transportation of “extra” things in this company is quite large. Exactly how much additional the client will have to pay in this or that case can be seen in the table below.

Of course, even for an additional fee, it is possible to transport cargo that is not too heavy and bulky on Aeroflot aircraft. Baggage whose weight exceeds 32 kg per piece and dimensions exceeds 203 kg will not be accepted from the passenger.

If the company’s client’s belongings are too large, he will most likely have to pay for the second piece of luggage - 2,500 rubles, and for all subsequent ones - 7,500 rubles. ($50 and $150 respectively).

Aeroflot shares

Some groups of company passengers may carry excess baggage at a lower cost or completely free. Eg, extra seats are provided for participants of the Aeroflot Bonus program and those carrier clients who fly to Israel, the USA, China or Japan.

In some cases, Aeroflot may also offer discounts on the transportation of certain categories of items. The luggage of skiers and snowboarders (equipment), for example, from November 1, 2016 to May 5, 2017, flights of this carrier are accepted free of charge. Also, until March 25, Aeroflot passengers do not have to pay extra for diving and surfing equipment.

Company liability in case of damage to client's belongings

Aeroflot's baggage allowance is thus precisely determined. However, of course, not only passengers are subject to certain requirements regarding the transportation of things. Aeroflot itself assumes certain obligations in this regard.

Specially hired movers are responsible for loading, storing and unloading passengers' belongings from this carrier. Of course, the company's management requires these employees to take the most responsible attitude to their work. But in some cases, passengers' luggage may, of course, be damaged during loading/unloading. In this case, Aeroflot undertakes:

  • send the passenger's belongings for repair at his own expense;
  • If repairs are not possible, return the full cost of the damaged luggage to the client.

To ensure that no problems arise when receiving compensation, the passenger must keep the luggage tag with him until he receives and checks the safety of his items.

Lost luggage

Of course, from time to time passengers of the company have such troubles. In case of loss of luggage, the company's client should immediately contact the tracing service at the airport. Here you will need to fill out a special loss form and receive a case number. Next, the company’s employees will begin to actually track the movement of lost items using the program World Tracer. The latter, by the way, is also available to ordinary people. Passengers can track their luggage on the official website of Aeroflot, in the “Looking” section.

Passengers' opinions about the service

Most passengers believe that the company's baggage allowance is too strict. Aeroflot (the company's economy and business class cabins are quite expensive), according to many customers, could slightly increase the weight and dimensions of the free items accepted. In this regard, about the company there are, unfortunately, mostly just not very good feedback.

In addition, as can be judged by the reviews, Aeroflot employees usually do not give their clients any discounts even if their suitcases are even the slightest overweight or in size. This, according to many passengers, is not observed with almost any other carrier. Some customers even have to simply throw things out of their bags if they exceed the norm, since their cost is much less than the amount of additional payment for additional places. So when collecting luggage at home, Aeroflot passengers should be as careful as possible.

Also, this company has not earned particularly good customer reviews for its overly complicated baggage check-in procedure. In order to do this, passengers often have to stand in queues for hours.

Aeroflot doesn’t lose things from clients very often. However, this still happens sometimes. There are also negative reviews from passengers whose suitcases had personal belongings or souvenirs taken from them.

Hello friends. Today is important news. After November 5, 2017, new rules for the carriage of baggage and hand luggage on flights will come into force Russian airlines. If previously each carrier had its own requirements, now the rules will be the same for all Russian airlines (except for the low-cost carrier Pobeda).

Attention! Once again: the law is only for Russian airlines. All other airlines have their own rules that comply with the laws of their state.

The rules to which airlines and we, airplane passengers, are subject are called “General Rules for the Air Transportation of Passengers, Baggage, Cargo and Requirements for the Service of Passengers, Shippers, and Consignees.” They were adopted on June 28, 2007 by order of the Ministry of Transport Russian Federation. Since then, the rules have been amended. But the norms were very different and vague. For some carriers they were generally too rigid.

On October 5, 2017, a new law No. 409 was issued amending the document. The changes affect everyone who uses air transport, i.e. and you and me.

It is clear that the law has many interesting details that we will not talk about. Today we will talk about the most important thing, what everyone who wants to take a flight with a Russian airline will face.

Let's agree on terms

  1. Baggage - suitcases, bags or boxes that we weigh at check-in and check in as baggage.
  2. Carry-on luggage is things packed into a bag, briefcase, backpack or package that we take with us into the aircraft cabin and on which the “carry-on luggage” tag is hung.
  3. Things that we take into the cabin of the plane and that do not have a tag attached to them. (Laptops, cameras, gadgets, clothes, flowers, baby food, crutches, canes, etc.)

There are many interesting details in the law that we will not talk about. And we will only tell you about the most important thing, about what an ordinary tourist who wants to take a flight with the help of a Russian airline will encounter.

The law comes into force on November 5, 2017. This means that everyone who purchases air tickets after November 5 is subject to these amendments.

The law does not apply to those who have already purchased tickets in advance (before November 5). This is what is written in the same rules.

The most important things about the new flight rules

General requirements that are important to us as travelers relate to baggage allowances and the carriage of items in the aircraft cabin. Let’s try to clearly explain these rules so that you don’t have any questions and understand what our pros and cons are.

Baggage requirements

Earlier: the maximum weight of one piece of luggage should not exceed 32 kg.

Now: a new requirement has been introduced - the weight limit for 1 piece of baggage is 30 kg for all air carriers. Less is possible, more is not possible.

1 piece of luggage is one suitcase. If you are checking in a large backpack, then this is 1 backpack, if you are checking in a bag, then this is 1 bag.

But! This does not mean that now you can take 30 kg of luggage on any ticket. There is an important point here; it depends on what fare ticket you bought. Simply put, an economy class ticket has fewer options than those who took, for example, a business class ticket.

All luggage can be broken down by weight:

  • Up to 10 kg, from 10 kg to 30 kg, over 30 kg
  • Baggage up to 10 kg is free

Previously, the weight allowance for free luggage was different for different companies, but now it is the same for everyone.

This means that no company can write in its rules: “It is allowed to carry luggage weighing no more than 3 kg (or 6 kg or 7 kg).” The norm is 10 kg for everyone! You yourself are not required to gain exactly 10 kg, you can take less at your discretion, but the company cannot set you a lower luggage weight limit.

Luggage weighing from 10 to 30 kg

There are some nuances here. As before, you need to go to the carrier’s website and read its rules - what weight your luggage should be in accordance with the tariff of your ticket. This means that “the upper limit can be 23 kg, 25, 27 to 30 kg. If the company rules for your tariff indicate an upper limit of 23 kg (that is, you can carry no more than 23 kg for free), and when weighing If your suitcase at check-in was overweight, then you either need to take something out and leave it, or pay extra for the excess.

Excess baggage

Baggage that is not included in the price of your fare ticket is considered excess baggage.

Example: you bought a ticket Moscow-Vladivostok"Economy flexible" tariff. The ticket price includes baggage allowance weighing up to 23 kg. If your luggage weighs more than 23 kg, but does not exceed 30 kg, then this weight is considered excess and you will have to pay extra for it.

Find out how much it will cost on the airline's website.

Baggage weighing 30 kg

Typically, a passenger who has purchased a business class ticket can carry this much for free. With this fare, the passenger has more options.

Baggage over 30 kg - Heavy luggage

Anything over 30 kg that does not fit standard dimensions is considered heavy cargo. Additional payment for each kilogram is at a special rate for “heavy load”. Each company has its own tariffs. Read the rules on the company’s website (section “Baggage Transportation”). This is required information.

Perhaps this is the main thing.

Baggage free ticket

Let me add that many companies still have a baggage-free tariff. This is when you don’t take any luggage at all and fly only with hand luggage. Tickets are cheap, but there are inconvenient nuances. The main one is that such a ticket is non-refundable.

Consolidated baggage

It is also possible to combine the belongings of two or more travelers into one piece of luggage (put all items in one suitcase - 1 piece of luggage). The weight of such luggage should also not exceed the same 30 kg.

What are the pros and cons that we have in connection with the introduction of the amendments?

Pros: Standard standards have emerged for everyone. The main one is that you can take free luggage weighing up to 10 kg. Here the norm has increased and we feel better.

Minuses: maximum luggage weight limit: instead of 32 kg, you can now take luggage weighing no more than 30 kg

Friends, we are now on Telegram: our channel about Europe, our channel about Asia. Welcome)

Hand luggage - new norms

Earlier: Different airlines had their own requirements. For example, for some: you can take no more than 3 kg in hand luggage, for others - no more than 4, for others - no more than 5 kg, and for some up to 10 kg.

Now: The hand luggage allowance for all carriers is at least 5 kg per passenger. For us this means: we can take less than 5 kg, but carry-on luggage is prohibited above this weight. At the same time, the carrier can change this figure upward at its own discretion. Those. You still need to read the rules, because... some companies can set a limit of 6, 7 kg per person or even 10 kg, which, of course, will please us.

Also, be aware of the dimensions! Those. your hand luggage must fit not only into weight standards, but also into size (length, width, height). Dimensions standards, as before, need to be found on the carrier’s website. There are no changes here.

Earlier: we could check in hand luggage and, in addition to it, carry laptops, cameras and cameras on the plane for free.

Now: All this is included in hand luggage.

In other words, you cannot transport separately:

  • telephones;
  • laptops;
  • cameras;
  • documents in folders;

You'll have to put them in your bags. Their weight is also taken into account when calculating the weight of hand luggage.

Is your laptop in your bag or suitcase? You don't need to pay anything extra. Do you want to carry it separately? You are due.

If previously hand luggage was weighed only at check-in, now it can be weighed before boarding (apparently in cases where the bag is suspicious). This is important for those who took few things with them, checked them in as hand luggage, and bought “baggage-free” tickets.

Attention! Your hand luggage can be weighed at the port of arrival!

Minuses this innovation: now at home you will have to carefully weigh your hand luggage and make sure that there is no excess.

Pros: The aircraft cabin will be less crowded. All your hand luggage will fit into the luggage compartment in the aircraft cabin and you don’t need to worry whether there is enough space for your things on the shelf or not.

Updated 19.02. 2018: Due to increasing passenger complaints about the lack of space for hand luggage in the aircraft cabin, Aeroflot has tightened control over the carriage of hand luggage. You can read about it Here.

What things can you take on board the plane without having to check them in as hand luggage?

Both before and now you can take with you things you need during the flight or immediately after landing. They are not checked in as hand luggage and do not require additional payment.

Here is a list of them. The list will be supplemented, but definitely will not be able to be cut:

  • handbag, backpack, briefcase;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • your clothes (jacket, coat); If we fly from a country where it’s +27 degrees in our winter, where it’s -27. Or vice versa, such an additional package with things is very relevant.
  • special children's food; But no more than is needed for the flight.
  • specially packaged suit;
  • cane or crutch;
  • a baby stroller or cradle, which, when folded, fits under the seat of the chair in front;
  • walkers, which, when folded, fit under the seat of the chair in front;
  • medical chair for those who have difficulty moving.

Are the positions familiar? They were previously allowed free transportation. Now the list has been expanded:

  • sealed bag from dutyfree;
  • medications, everything necessary for medical reasons for the passenger.

And once again, what is now prohibited from being transported separately:

  • phone, laptop;
  • an umbrella, even a small one;
  • papers in a folder;
  • newspapers, books, magazines;
  • camera, camera.

What are the pros and cons of all this?

Pros: The minimum weight limit for hand luggage has increased to 5 kg.

Minuses: The maximum weight requirements for hand luggage have been reduced from 10 to 5 kg. Laptops, cameras, documents will have to be counted as hand luggage.

I think we will get used to the new normal and figure something out. Other countries already have experience; you can use their life hacks.

Video - How the Scots pack things in a special vest

There are people who figure out how to carry more things in the cabin of the plane and not pay for it. One option is an airline passenger vest. Interesting idea.

Common Questions

What happens if I refuse payment?

Refusing to pay for something that you can no longer carry for free? For example, a laptop. Everything is simple here - you may not be allowed on board. They will, of course, tell you about this. And they will give you a second chance to pay. But we don’t recommend taking risks - they will simply cancel your ticket if you insist.

You paid more than you brought. What to do?

Only if you overpay for the number of seats will you get your money back. If you paid for 2 seats, but only used one, you will be refunded.

Hand luggage weighs more than allowed. Is it possible to pay extra?

No! This is a question of passenger safety. If it doesn’t fit in the weight and dimensions, you won’t be allowed to carry it with you.

If the carrier does not follow the new rules

These innovations are relevant for everyone. If you see that they are being violated, you can contact Rospotrebnadzor. To do this, you need to save all the tickets and receipts you receive. Don't pay extra without a receipt! You may receive compensation, but the carrier will be fined.

The rules have changed, perhaps something has become less convenient for us. But, if you think about it, you can find the right “luggage combination”!

This is probably all of the main things. If you still have questions regarding the nuances (oversized cargo, baggage consolidation, refund, etc.), we highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with rules(study changes in the order “General rules for air transportation of passengers, baggage, cargo and requirements for servicing passengers, shippers, consignees”) and deal with your specific case. There are a lot of errors and misleading information on the websites and even in the CT video. Use the original!

Our "Victory"

Pobeda Airlines is a subsidiary of Aeroflot and positions itself as low-cost.

In Russia, today, this is the only low-cost company, so its requirements are slightly different in the direction of minimalism.

Assume that the essence of low-cost airlines is to reduce the price of a ticket as much as possible, i.e. make it cheap, then the rules of Victory will become more clear to you.

Low-cost airlines (from the English “low-cost” - low costs) are a type of airline that operates on an unconventional transportation model, which involves providing very cheap air tickets.
