After the flight Kyiv-Dubai-Colombo we arrived early in the morning.

The guide from Join Up met us and asked us to stand aside for 5-10 minutes.

We flew from Kyiv, where it was already cool, dressed in tracksuits. Upon arrival in a hot, humid climate, of course I really wanted to get to the hotel to take off my clothes. It helped that we took it with us hand luggage flip flops. We took off our sneakers - we felt a little better))) Ten minutes, of course, was not enough and in the end we were seated in the minibus an hour later. While we were standing on the street waiting for other tourists to be seated on all the buses to other hotels, the thought in my head was that we should have taken private transfer. So I recommend checking this point with your travel agent.

At the hotel we were greeted with cool drinks and a cold wet face towel, which was very nice)

They settled pretty quickly. At first we were offered a room from which you could see a cemetery and a balcony overlooking a rather large wall. We politely declined the number. To which we received an answer: a good room needs to wait until other residents evict. They said we would wait. As a result, about twenty minutes later we were offered another option - much better, and we settled on it.

The room is spacious, with partial views of the ocean and pool, with a cozy balcony.

Sunbeds at the hotel. They have a whole business running here. There are empty wooden sun loungers in many places, not all under umbrellas. If it's a sunny day, then you should take a seat. This is done with pleasure by the pool workers who are responsible for beach towels and mattresses. They ask where you can take a seat tomorrow and for a symbolic bonus of 200 rupees for 2 seats, they will gladly lay out towels where you need them, putting down your cream, a T-shirt or something else that reminds you that the seat has already been occupied by someone. So on the first day we walked around looking for sun loungers in good places, but they are all busy and yet there are no people)))

Coconuts. The same pool workers offer you the ones you want that you can just drink, you want the coconuts that you can drink, and then they will peel it for you to eat the pulp. For two coconuts they asked for 2 dollars. The locals behind the fence are 2 times cheaper. 100 rupees/coconut.

Nutrition. Everything is very tasty and satisfying. Desserts, fruits, meat, fish, soups. Every day we ate our fill. Helpful waiters help you open doors, sit down at the table, quickly take drink orders and serve you.

Entertainment. There is a basketball court on site, yoga classes, water aerobics, etc. are held. For family leisure - normal.

In the evenings he often plays in the lobby live music, which is very nice. Several times there was live music at dinner in the restaurant.

It gets dark quite early during this period (October), so at 18.00 it’s already dark, you can’t really walk around the area, because... There seem to be lanterns, but there seems to be no light. We tried to wander around the territory, but quickly curtailed these endeavors.

Ocean. We were not the lucky ones who were lucky with the weather and received all the disadvantages of the “off season”... Wave, wave, wave. We didn't swim in the ocean. We only went out occasionally to wet our feet. The ocean is dirty. Locals say that a river flows nearby. Now is the rainy season, there is a lot of water and all the dirt is carried into the ocean. As a result, all the time there were sticks, old coconuts, bottles, buckets and other dirt, of which there is so much here... It’s sad, but the water is of course warm... If only we could turn back time - we would take a trip to Hikkaduwa or Galle, where it is possible to swim in the ocean at this time of year.

Beach. It is municipal here, the hotel has no relation to the beach and is fenced off from it by a low fence. Behind him, a bunch of local men and women are vying to grab your attention, offering massages, lunches, excursions, etc. They have no right to enter the hotel premises. Communicate with them, they are nice people and will be glad if you contact them. They have their own unspoken procedure for communicating with vacationers. Everyone has their own number and approaches those leaving the fence in turn. Lucky - and you are his client, unlucky - he is waiting for his turn to come next time. At first, of course, it’s scary, it seems like there’s a crowd of them and everyone needs something from you, but then, you get used to it and they don’t seem so scary anymore)))

Excursions. You need to visit everywhere in Sri Lanka, because... just traveling along this amazing country you can love it with all your heart and want to return here. Yes, sometimes it’s hard, because... trips here are difficult to endure (you will feel this when you go to the hotel from the airport..))) But it’s worth it. Turtle farm in Bentota, elephant nurseries, Kandy with tea plantations, etc., etc. WITH hotel guide We didn’t go (Tarang), he didn’t inspire confidence in us. We went with whipboy Ishuya. The guys who vacationed here a little earlier than us recommended Denis (his cafe is located at the exit from the hotel at the reception, go right, go to the nearest intersection and right again), Boni (his cafe at the exit from the hotel to the beach, the first one on the right is the Little Mermaid) . Ishuya, who we went with, also works with Boni. Don't go with Valera, he's bad...

Prices. You need to bargain here!!! If you don’t bargain, they look and call high prices without a twinge of conscience. If you bargain, you can always reduce the price.

By tuk-tuk (for about 300 rupees) you can get to the local town of Kalutaru, get to the local famous Buddhist temple, buy fruits, which are not served at the hotel (we always took mangosteens).

Animals. We felt like we were in a mini-zoo. Iguanas, chipmunks, and some birds are scurrying around everywhere. On weekends, a female elephant is escorted along the central alley. You can take pictures with her and go for a ride (for a fee, of course). Chipmunks love to eat out of hand. So stock up on seeds from home, they will be grateful. We didn’t know and didn’t bring them with us, so we had to take muesli for breakfast (they eat that too). Then we went to a minimarket, bought peanuts there and fed them nuts until the end of the vacation.

One of the big disadvantages of the hotel is that there are crows here, there are a lot of them, unbearably many. They croak all the time, sometimes you can’t even hear the sound of the ocean because of their croaking. They say that sometimes there are fireworks here to scare them away, but it was not our time and we were forced to lie by the pool every day to listen to this unbearable croaking. They were not shy about swimming with us in the pool, stealing everything that was lying on your sunbed unattended, shitting on the towels lying ((((So you can safely listen to the sound of the surf only in the evening, when they are sleeping)))

And finally. Locals asked us if we had brought vodka and chocolate. In response to our questioning glances, they said that they simply didn’t have vodka, and their chocolate was not sweet and asked us to tell you to take these things with you for gifts)

The coast is not for swimming, the sea is not calm, there is a suspension of sand in the water, so the water does not look clean, garbage washes up on the shore, it is not often removed. One staff member was extremely unceremonious, entered the room without an invitation...?) but this is by and large not a problem.)

Good hotel, room corresponds to the star rating. Luxurious buffet large swimming pool and territory.

Wonderful hotel. A large, beautiful area covered in palm trees, with monitor lizards, herons, chipmunks, a river-shaped pool and a jacuzzi. Nice, spacious room overlooking the pool and ocean. Breakfast is delicious, but monotonous. The hotel staff tries to fulfill all requests and is very helpful. We rented a car, parking was free and convenient. The beach is beautiful with multi-colored sand: yellow, black, turning into burgundy. We rested in December for 8 nights - the ocean was raging, only 1 day we managed to swim enough in our ocean, taking into account the car, we visited many beaches on the island where we could swim and jump on the waves, we really liked Bentota beach with light sand and turquoise ocean. We visited the zoo and liked it too. Impressions from the hotel and Sri Lanka are only positive!

The railway is next to the hotel.

A good hotel for 4. The area is not very large, clean, cool tame chipmunks, birds walk around, sometimes monitor lizards crawl out. Just beyond the territory passes Railway. Be careful with the locals, everyone is ready to scam you out of money, especially the tuk-tuk drivers near the hotel, they act as translators when buying fruit, etc. And the sellers sell you many times more money, and on excursions it’s also nonsense.

Dirty beach. Aging interior and furniture. Well, about the little things: there are few trash cans on the premises, the rooms are cleaned (more precisely, the floors are not washed, otherwise everything is rotten), there are no paper napkins, the rest doesn’t even make sense to write. Overall a good hotel.

A large area, there are places to eat outside the buffet that are quite tasty. The rooms are spacious. There are a lot of animals on the territory (chipmunks, monitor lizards, etc.)

Advice to everyone! When leaving the hotel gate, there is local cafe and a local travel agency called Arathur. I do not advise anyone to contact him!!! The excursions are nothing, the prices are very expensive!!!

The hotel does not have enough sun umbrellas, we had to borrow one early in the morning. On our first day at the hotel, we went to the beach after 9-00, there were no more free umbrellas, and as a result, we overheated and had to leave the beach an hour later, and in addition, we noticed that the hotel employees who They service the pools and have set up a business out of renting sun loungers and umbrellas; they borrow them for tourists for a fee. Breakfast at the hotel ends very early at 9:30 - it needs to be extended until at least 10:30. And the most unusual thing is that in the last 24 hours we were persuaded to move to the neighboring Tangerine hotel; for some reason the hotel needed our room. Based on the results of the holiday, I cannot recommend the hotel to my friends and relatives, although it is considered that for Sri Lanka this is a good hotel.

What we liked most about this hotel was the Japanese restaurant - good food and excellent service.

Food...breakfast is good, mostly Indian and Sri Lankan dishes. Everything is spicy, curry is everywhere. This is some kind of test for Curry)))))) But seasonal fruits there is always plenty. I would like to improve the range of European dishes

Hotel with a very good location relative to the airport. This is our second time vacationing in Palm Beach. But we choose this hotel only because we had a friend in Kalutara from our last trip - an excellent guide and very good man Khasi!!! Next to the hotel he has a cafe Matryoshka. In general, I liked the Palm Beach hotel for its ethnic flavor - elephant figures, antique furniture, incense. The hotel area is very green. Every day you can see very beautiful Sri Lankan wedding photo shoots - this is something...!!! The hotel is not new, but very atmospheric. We arrived at 6 am, checked in immediately and were given the opportunity to swim and stay on the hotel grounds until 18.00. on the day of departure - this is convenient. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, and all rooms have views of the pool and ocean. Due to humidity, it is better to choose a room on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The ocean is not for swimming, but it is grandiose!!! We rested in mid-June - active rainy season. Hotel prices during this period are halved, the showers are short-lived, but strong in the evening and at night. True, there is humidity... but the skin is just great because of the humidity. We only swam in the pool - it’s huge, like a river, clean and runs throughout the entire territory, the ocean is scary, it’s addictive... In general, this hotel is certainly not a 5, but a solid 4. But for the atmosphere and national flavor - a sure 5!

“One evening and one act of the hotel administration could ruin all the positive emotions from the holiday”

To put it mildly, the attitude of the staff is more than bestial.

We stayed at this hotel 4 times from April 19 to April 29, 2019. Everything was fine for 10 days. However, the whole impression was destroyed in one fell swoop. We contacted the hotel 3 days before departure asking how we could order a transfer. We were told that one day before departure we can contact the reception and they will provide us with a service. Exactly one day before departure, we contacted them, told us where and what we needed, and they issued us a transfer invoice in the amount of $70. When asked if we could pay for the transfer later, we were answered positively. Leaving the hotel that day, local guys offered us a transfer to the airport for $40. Imagine our surprise when, having gone down to the reception at 8 pm to pay the bill for the transfer, they solemnly announced to us with a smile that the car had broken down, but we Well done here, they found you a car “from behind the fence.” When we asked what the price was, we were told with a straight face - $70, you must pay only in cash and only to the driver. Why should I pay the person who offered me his services for $40 in the morning, pay $70? Having asked the question why $70 and not $40, as the man himself suggested, they couldn’t. The employee showed with all his appearance and words that the car was broken, these are your problems, not the hotel’s problems, do what you want. He didn’t care at all that we were regular guests, that we chose their hotel without looking at all the fuckups we encountered there not for the first time. The most annoying thing is that there was a car on the hotel premises, and two more on the territory of Tangerine, which is also part of this network, but they were not going to provide it. Thanks to the guys from the KingFish cafe, Lahiru and his mother, who at 9 pm were able to find us a transfer within 10 minutes the next morning with departure from the hotel at 5 am, the cost of which was $50. It’s very nice when you know people for 7 years and they are happy to see you, feed you delicious food, sew any thing you want, and are always ready to help in any situation you don’t understand.

Comments from our managers

Wonderful hotel, a good five! Starting from the reception, a special design style is noticeable, sort of Sri Lankan. The rooms are good, decent interior, beautiful furniture. Safe, mini bar - free of charge. I especially want to highlight the four-poster beds) Slippers and bathrobes are provided to guests upon request. Wifi free everywhere. The hotel area is not large, but well-groomed and beautiful! The neighboring Tangerine hotel is closely adjacent, hotels of the same chain, guests walk around the territory of both hotels without obstacles. The hotel has daytime animation and an evening disco! I recommend it for all categories of tourists!

The hotel is located 74 km from the airport, 40 km from Colombo. The nearest city is Kalutara. The hotel is located on the same territory as the Tangerine Beach Hotel 4*. The hotel has green, well-groomed territory; a large pool, but the water in it is cloudy, very chlorinated, not very pleasant to swim in! The hotel rooms are spacious, the furniture is not new, but not old either, everything looks decent. The rooms have: balcony, air conditioning, bath or shower, minibar, TV, safe, tea and coffee making facilities. The food at the hotel is decent, everything is delicious; there are 3 restaurants; one is a buffet, the other two are a la carte (Indian and fish). The beach is excellent, a wide beach strip, sandy sunset, the sea is clean and calm in season (winter), in the off-season the water is cloudy, strong waves. Animation: yoga (on the territory of Tangerine Beach), water aerobics (on the territory of Tangerine Beach), billiards, volleyball, table tennis, squash, tennis court, night club. There is a railway near the hotel, but it does not interfere with your vacation at all. Not far from the hotel there are shops where you can buy souvenirs, cafes, and restaurants. This hotel Can be safely recommended for a holiday!

The hotel produced good impression. A very beautiful and cozy lounge where you want to sit and relax for a while. All rooms have ocean views. Each room has a safe (free of charge) and a minibar for an additional fee, as well as a hairdryer, tea set, and TV. Nice big rooms. There are three restaurants: 1 main, 1 with seafood cuisine, 1 with Japanese cuisine; 2 bars. Disco - entrance about 10 dollars. per person. Wi-Fi (fee), tennis (fee), snooker (free), gym (free), spa (fee).

Location

The hotel is located in the town of Kalutara, 52 km from Colombo, 84 km from the airport.

Beach

Sandy, municipal.

Hotel reviews 2008 of the year

Hi all! We vacationed at Royal Palms Beach from 11/22/2008 to 12/05/2008. I'll start with the flight first. It is very difficult to fly with a transfer. It's better to take a straight line. In general, it turned out that we flew for 13 hours, and the direct flight turns out to be somewhere around 8 hours. We flew with Emirates both there and back, the service is amazing, but sitting at the Dubai airport for 4 hours waiting for a flight to Colombo is very tiring. Having arrived at the place, we were met by the company "Exotic Holidays International" (and the tour operator "IntAer"), that I could...

We visited in December 2007, there is a lot to write about, it’s a warm and breezy country, the hotel is great. It's definitely worth a visit. Yes, if you take excursions, then take them, but only if they are at the end of your vacation, otherwise right after a long flight it’s a little tiring. Anything like this with a tour operator is frowned upon. Sri Lanka is a fairy tale....

Hotel reviews 2007 of the year

We vacationed at Royal Palms Beach in July 2007. The impressions are very contradictory. If we talk about the country of Sri Lanka in general, then it is very interesting. Lush vegetation, Buddhist and Hindu temples, wild monkeys and a large number of elephants are impressive. But the weather in July is annoying. Spontaneous downpours and almost 100% humidity, as well as constantly stormy weather Indian Ocean don't give much pleasure. The hotel is not bad, but not for sophisticated tourists. Quite big and clean...

Olga, 2007-05-24 We went to Sri Lanka 03/26-04/10/07. We liked the Roayl Palms Hotel, green area with beautiful tall royal palm trees. If you want to be with each other and enjoy nature, this is a very suitable place; in the evenings there is live music and a cocktail bar. There is no active animation. The rooms are spacious with good air conditioning. The restaurant has good service and a wide selection of dishes. For those who love excursions, we would like to advise you to immediately buy a combined...

Royal Palm Beach 5* - of course not "fashionable" - 3 Turkish stars! Overall, not bad, but boring. If you go, do so in a large group. There is enough food, especially if all inclusive (All). But breakfast and dinner (HB) was enough for me, and I am a lover of food. I went alone and expected a quiet holiday on the beach and snorkeling. The last one was a mess - there’s nothing to see there, and the waves from May to September don’t even allow you to just swim. Although there is a red flag on the shore, the Russians don’t care; many are floundering on the waves. Including...

People!!! I don’t know where you stayed before, but this hotel, including Tangerine, is just a nightmare. Everything is old, smelly, at best it’s rubbish on all counts. Who saw a good SPA there? Yes, these Sri Lankans simply don’t care about you, they have no idea what massage and service in general are. That’s why they are beggars and don’t want to work at all, even these women at the spa. One thing made me happy - nature, and even then these freaks trashed it almost everywhere. For myself, conclusions have been drawn: I won’t set foot in this country again, maybe in a few years... ts...

We went at the beginning of March. Tour with excursion program. I really liked it. Wonderful country. I was pleased with the hotel. Really deserves 5*. I made some repairs before the New Year holidays. Exotic. The rooms are very romantic, new furniture, plumbing. There are no complaints about the service. The guys are trying really hard. I was pleasantly surprised by the nightclub, also renovated. The music is good, and it works until 4 am. The food is varied - every day there is European cuisine in the evening - sometimes Italian, sometimes French, sometimes Greek, there was...
