Tourists who want to spend a vacation in Crimea with benefits for both body and soul often choose Sevastopol for this. Omega Bay, a popular resort area of the hero city, provides them good accommodation And beach holiday. And it is simply impossible to overestimate the cultural significance of the largest Crimean polis, so excursion program turns out to be saturated.

Where is the bay in Sevastopol?

It is popular among Sevastopol residents and visitors due to the presence of a large shallow beach area on its western coast. Administratively it belongs to the Gagarinsky district, it is easy to get here from any part of the city.

From the origin story

In fact, calling the bay “Omega” is geographically incorrect - it is called Round because of its corresponding shape. However, the colloquial names “Sandy” (here the beaches are really made of sand, and the bottom is like that) and “Omega” have become established in everyday life. The latter came here from a small resort village that arose on the shore at the end of the century before last.

Omega Beach in Sevastopol is of natural origin; people only built its infrastructure. The round bay is not suitable for anything other than relaxation - it is very shallow, the ship is larger than a small one private yacht cannot enter it. But sandy coast is a wonderful entertainment place, popular among those Sevastopol residents and holidaymakers who have small children. The depth here increases slowly, there is a vast “paddling pool” where even very tiny toddlers do not risk drowning.

There is also one natural disadvantage - the bottom here is densely overgrown with various algae and sea grass. All this often floats up and washes up on the coast. As a result, the water at Omega Beach can be quite cloudy, especially in the afternoon.

Runaway hydroairfield

In the 40s last century, swimming here was problematic - a military hydroairfield settled here. However, it did not last long, but the townspeople do not know the objective reasons for its closure. There are persistent rumors that radio interference of unknown origin has systematically appeared in this area. Aliens came to rest, or what?

Features of a holiday on Omega

Nowadays Omega Beach in Sevastopol is one of the largest (700 m long) and famous city recreation areas by the sea. The photos allow you to assess the degree of infrastructure development - there are piers and awnings. Any beach equipment is easy to rent; toilets, showers, and changing rooms are provided. There are few stones, and they are small.

The characteristics of the currents in Round Bay are such that the water warms up faster than in other places. Consequently, Omega Beach is almost the first to receive swimmers in Sevastopol; reviews confirm that you can’t freeze here. The shallow depth attracts primarily parents, but young people also have something to do here. They offer rental of boats, catamarans, banana boat rides and jet ski rides. Since 1999, such exotic entertainment as hang gliding has become available.

Young people on Omega often appear in the late afternoon, filling numerous cafes and bars. Such groups do not seek to sunbathe, but they do go swimming. Not far from the “civilized” area there are “wild” ones, where the water is always clean, but the shore and bottom are rocky.

Swimming in Kruglaya is not entirely suitable for divers due to the muddy water, but many mask holders dive here to catch mussels or crabs. Previously, a favorite place for local boys to seek adventure was an old inverted buoy,
densely populated with shells. But nothing in the world lasts forever.

Along the edges of the bay there is a rather prestigious residential area, where it is not difficult to find private apartment or hotel. Most local hotels put the word "Omega" in their names. Those who want to not only swim, but also explore, can easily get to any quarter by direct flight - transport links are well established. Sevastopol and Victory parks are nearby.

On the local coast, in addition to the beach, there is also a military helicopter factory (but you can’t see this attraction) and a yacht club. Previously, clay was mined here, which was considered medicinal. A sort of spontaneous mud clinic appeared. But the deposit was washed out by order of the authorities in the 80s. XX century, the reason is unclear.

Unfortunately, city sanitary services often close Omega Beach. There are emergency sewer exits nearby, and in case of emergency situations, utility workers may experience water contamination. But then there is a general notification of residents and guests, so tourists do not risk getting on the contaminated shore.

How to get there (get there)?

It is easy to get to Omega Beach by public transport. At the bus station, take minibus No. 107, you need to get off at the stop of the same name and the beach area. There are other buses going in this direction.

Abstract on the topic:

Round Bay

Round Bay is located five kilometers southwest of the entrance to Sevastopol Bay.

The bay got its name from its shape, which is close to a circle. The round bay is shallow and has a sandy bottom, which is why earlier, at the beginning of the 20th century, it had a different name - Sandy. At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries, on its banks there were country houses and resort villages. The bay received its second unofficial name from the name of one of them - Omega. On the southern and southwestern shores of the bay, until the middle of the 20th century, healing mud was mined for treating the human musculoskeletal system. In the 80s of the last century, deposits of healing mud were, for some unknown reason, destroyed by the authorities and covered with earth. On the shore of the bay there is a beach with many bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. During Soviet times, the all-Union sanatorium-preventorium “Omega” was located in the bay, but with the formation of the state of Ukraine it was transformed into a Ukrainian military hospital. Emergency sewage water has been drained into the bay, and therefore the beach is often closed for sanitary and epidemiological reasons. The eastern shore and the adjacent water area of the bay in the 40s of the XX century were used as a hydroairfield, which was called “Sevastopol-V”. Toponyms of Sevastopol which was later liquidated (according to unofficial data - due to unexplained interference with radio communications in the area ). Currently, on this shore there is a helicopter factory, a yacht club and a wild beach.

Round Bay (Omega)- located in the Gagarinsky district of Sevastopol at 5 km southwest of the entrance to Sevastopol Bay at the end of October Revolution Avenue. On its western shore there is the city beach "Omega". Very small and completely unsuitable for shipping.

The bay has a round shape, after which it was named. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, holiday and resort villages were built on the shores of the bay. According to one of them - Omega - the bay received the common name of the same name. The round bay has a sandy bottom, which is why earlier, at the beginning of the 20th century, it had another name - Sandy.

The recreational use of Round Bay was associated with healing mud, which was mined on the southern and southwestern shores of the bay until the middle of the twentieth century. In the 80s of the last century, deposits of healing mud were, for some unknown reason, destroyed by the authorities and covered with earth.

In Soviet times, the All-Union sanatorium-preventorium “Omega” was located here. With the formation of the state “Independent Ukraine”, the sanatorium was transformed into a Ukrainian military hospital.

The eastern shore and the adjacent water area of the Round Bay in the 40s of the twentieth century were used as a hydroairfield, which was called “Sevastopol-V”. Later, the hydroairfield was liquidated (according to unofficial data - due to unexplained interference with radio communications in the area). Currently, on this shore there is a military helicopter repair plant, a yacht club and the Omega city beach, with a length of 700 m. The coast is dotted with cafes, bars and discos.

Due to the shallow depth and peculiarities of the wind direction in the bay, the water here quickly warms up and becomes suitable for swimming earlier than on other beaches in the city. The main disadvantage of the beaches of Round Bay is that they are not very pure water, especially in the middle of the day, from suspended particles of sand, small debris and algae, which cover the sandy bottom of the bay.

Emergency sewerage flows into the bay, as a result of which the beach is often closed for sanitary and epidemiological reasons.

Bay in poetry

I live in Sevastopol. In Omega Bay,
Where the waves are cheerful, like dolphins,
At dawn, tired of playing and running,
Swaying slightly, their backs warm in the sun...

The sky opened pink and blue like an umbrella,
Seagulls, screaming wildly, scurry over the water,
And in the distance, moored to the horizon,
Three destroyers and a cruiser are on patrol.

Peculiarities

The bay got its name from its shape, which is close to a circle. The round bay is shallow and has a sandy bottom, which is why earlier, at the beginning of the 20th century, it had a different name - Sandy. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, there were holiday and resort villages on its banks. The bay received its second unofficial name from the name of one of them - Omega. Despite the fact that this is a common name, it very accurately characterizes the geometry of its banks, which in plan is close to the shape of the Greek capital letter “omega” (Ω). Omega Beach is located on the shore of the bay.
On the southern and southwestern shores of the bay, until the middle of the 20th century, healing mud was mined for treating the human musculoskeletal system. In the 1980s, deposits of healing mud were, for some unknown reason, destroyed by the authorities and covered with earth. On the shore of the bay there is a beach with many bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. During Soviet times, the all-Union sanatorium-preventorium “Omega” was located in the bay, but with the formation of the state of Ukraine it was transformed into a Ukrainian military hospital. Nowadays it is a hospital of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Near the hospital grounds there is a monument to the Bulgarian communists, who were transported to Bulgaria by submarines in August 1941.
Emergency sewage water has been drained into the bay, and therefore the beach is often closed for sanitary and epidemiological reasons. The eastern shore and the adjacent water area of the bay in the 1940s were used as a hydroairfield, which was called “Sevastopol-V” (see which was later liquidated (according to unofficial data - due to unexplained interference with radio communications in the area). Currently, on this shore there is a helicopter factory, a yacht club and a wild beach.
