In fact, calling the bay “Omega” is geographically incorrect - it is called Round because of its corresponding shape. However, the colloquial names “Sandy” (here the beaches are really made of sand, and the bottom is like that) and “Omega” have become established in everyday life. The latter came here from a small resort village that arose on the shore at the end of the century before last.
Omega Beach in Sevastopol is of natural origin; people only built its infrastructure. The round bay is not suitable for anything other than relaxation - it is very shallow, the ship is larger than a small one private yacht cannot enter it. But sandy coast is a wonderful entertainment place, popular among those Sevastopol residents and holidaymakers who have small children. The depth here increases slowly, there is a vast “paddling pool” where even very tiny toddlers do not risk drowning.
There is also one natural disadvantage - the bottom here is densely overgrown with various algae and sea grass. All this often floats up and washes up on the coast. As a result, the water at Omega Beach can be quite cloudy, especially in the afternoon.
Runaway hydroairfield
In the 40s last century, swimming here was problematic - a military hydroairfield settled here. However, it did not last long, but the townspeople do not know the objective reasons for its closure. Features of a holiday on Omega
Nowadays Omega Beach in Sevastopol is one of the largest (700 m long) and famous city recreation areas by the sea. The photos allow you to assess the degree of infrastructure development - there are piers and awnings. Any beach equipment is easy to rent; toilets, showers, and changing rooms are provided. There are few stones, and they are small.
The characteristics of the currents in Round Bay are such that the water warms up faster than in other places. Consequently, Omega Beach is almost the first to receive swimmers in Sevastopol; reviews confirm that you can’t freeze here. The shallow depth attracts primarily parents, but young people also have something to do here. They offer rental of boats, catamarans, banana boat rides and jet ski rides. Young people on Omega often appear in the late afternoon, filling numerous cafes and bars. Such groups do not seek to sunbathe, but they do go swimming. Not far from the “civilized” area there are “wild” ones, where the water is always clean, but the shore and bottom are rocky.
Swimming in Kruglaya is not entirely suitable for divers due to the muddy water, but many mask holders dive here to catch mussels or crabs. Previously, a favorite place for local boys to seek adventure was an old inverted buoy, densely populated with shells. But nothing in the world lasts forever.
Along the edges of the bay there is a rather prestigious residential area, where it is not difficult to find private apartment or hotel. Most local hotels put the word "Omega" in their names. Those who want to not only swim, but also explore, can easily get to any quarter by direct flight - transport links are well established. Sevastopol and Victory parks are nearby.
On the local coast, in addition to the beach, there is also a military helicopter factory (but you can’t see this attraction) and a yacht club. Previously, clay was mined here, which was considered medicinal. A sort of spontaneous mud clinic appeared. But the deposit was washed out by order of the authorities in the 80s. XX century, the reason is unclear.
Unfortunately, city sanitary services often close Omega Beach. There are emergency sewer exits nearby, and in case of emergency situations, utility workers may experience water contamination. But then there is a general notification of residents and guests, so tourists do not risk getting on the contaminated shore.

The eastern shore and the adjacent water area of the Round Bay in the 40s of the twentieth century were used as a hydroairfield, which was called “Sevastopol-V”. Later, the hydroairfield was liquidated (according to unofficial data - due to unexplained interference with radio communications in the area). Currently, on this shore there is a military helicopter repair plant, a yacht club and the Omega city beach, with a length of 700 m. The coast is dotted with cafes, bars and discos.
Due to the shallow depth and peculiarities of the wind direction in the bay, the water here quickly warms up and becomes suitable for swimming earlier than on other beaches in the city. The main disadvantage of the beaches of Round Bay is that they are not very pure water, especially in the middle of the day, from suspended particles of sand, small debris and algae, which cover the sandy bottom of the bay.
Emergency sewerage flows into the bay, as a result of which the beach is often closed for sanitary and epidemiological reasons.
