In we began to talk about the beaches of the island, and also introduced you to the business of renting a car in Mauritius, roads and shops. Today we will talk about the sea, snorkeling, diving and go to best beaches Mauritius, although “best” is a relative concept. Rather, we will show how it was, using our numerous photos and videos as evidence.

We will divide the report on the best beaches into two parts due to the huge number of photos. Where would we be without them? Let's remember together how we spent time in Mauritius in January and December.

Beaches of the southwest of Mauritius

Flic en Flac Beach

There are a lot of diving agencies, including Padi. Inexpensive suit rental and diving (about 40 euros, compared to 70 euros in the east). Very shallow bottom, suitable for children, snorkeling near the shore is scarce, mostly urchins and rare fish. The beach is quite crowded for the southwest coast, but deserted compared to Pereybere.

Diving at Flic en Flac in Mauritius for an A: dive to at least 15-20 meters (with Open Water quite): high probability see stingrays and manta rays, turtles, shrimp and lots of fish. You must register in advance. Several groups go out several times a day.

Tamaran Beach

Since the beach is small, there seem to be a lot of sunbathers, plus kiters. The snorkel is modest, there is Padi (you should sign up in advance), there are trees near the beach under which you can hide from the heat.

From Tamaran at 8 am they arrange excursions “in pursuit of dolphins”. A huge number of boats are approaching the place near Mount Le Morne and quietly waits for wild dolphins to appear. As soon as the flock appears on the horizon, everyone jumps off the boats wearing a mask and fins and swims towards them. Of course, it is impossible to keep up with dolphins, but it is quite possible to follow them underwater. Swim with dolphins in Mauritius This is not an attraction with a life jacket in an indoor pool, where trained individuals can be touched and kissed, here these are wild mammals that will not swim up to you, but for which you will swim.

Video illustrating the underwater world of Mauritius and a short clip about dolphins at the end.

La Preneuse

This beach is suitable for modest ceremonies accompanied by birdsong. There are no vacationers here, but only quiet villas, from where they occasionally go for a walk. The sea is shallow, calm, and there is little interesting underwater near the shore. In District many inexpensive villas, shops, cafes.

Le Morne

I would call this beach one of the best on the southwest coast. Wide coastline provides a lot of free space for vacationers from nearby hotels, snorkelers, divers, and kiters. Everyone will find a place for themselves in this deserted place.

The beach is surrounded by fir trees and beautiful mountain Le Morne Brabant Mountain. The landscape of the entire peninsula is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hotels in this direction are quite expensive, as are the restaurants, so I would advise those who want to save money to look for accommodation a little further north. Expensive hotels Le Morna ensure daily cleanliness of the beach. By the way, all beaches in Mauritius are public.

Beaches of the north-west of Mauritius

Trou-aux-Biches

Not very crowded, but clean and with amazing turquoise water near the shore.

In the area, only the lazy would not offer a boat trip to the reef for snorkeling and diving. It's definitely worth taking advantage of the opportunity!

Mont Choisy

As uncrowded as Tru o Bish. In the first week after the New Year, when an influx of tourists is expected, we met only a few people there and a lone local fisherman cleaning some shells.

Since the beach is located along the road, it will be difficult to find parking, but you can park near the neighboring Trou aux Biches and walk there. That's not for long.

La Cuvette Beach

Perhaps this beach gets a solid A from me for the views, cleanliness and transparency of the water, especially the part behind the rocks.

Rocks on the shore do not allow vacationers to settle there for the whole day, which helps maintain cleanliness on the shore. There are too many boats to reach the rocks and it will be impossible to swim.

Not far from the next beach, Pereybere, is the Tamil Surya Oudaya Sangam Temple. A kind of charm of the northern part of Mauritius.

Pereybere

No. Not worth it. While Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy and La Cuvette took a break from the bustle of the city, Pereybere sheltered half of the island’s tourists and 50% local residents having a picnic under the trees.

Someone was grilling meat and fish. There is nowhere to set foot in the sea, there can be no talk of any snorkeling. There is garbage all around. A large crowd of vacationers allows the business of freshly squeezed juices and fruits to go uphill by leaps and bounds at exorbitant prices.

If you go a little deeper into the stones, it will become more spacious. This could be a solution for those who have already purchased a hotel or villa in the area.

Cap Malheureux-Bain Boeuf

Another well-deserved five goes to the north of the island, to Bain Boeuf beach. Again, no one, silence, beauty, Observation deck with benches and palm trees. On the shore there are benches and hanging trees that provide relief from the heat.

Anse La Raie

Quiet, but not the most a nice place. A paradise for kiters. There is a place to leave the car.

There is no infrastructure, but there is peace and privacy. Suitable for picnics.

We are completing the first part of our review of the beaches of Mauritius. We will describe the paradise island of Ile aux Aigrettes and the miracle of nature - a natural stone bridge over the sea.

The island is rightfully one of the most popular places for passive relaxation on the beach. The best beaches in Mauritius are magnificent and look like paradise. The island is protected on all sides by coral reefs and therefore swimming off its shores is absolutely safe. Mauritius, washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, almost never experiences storms. Predatory fish almost never swim here. Thanks to the natural protection of coral reefs, only unique specimens of fish and plants swim near the shore of the island.

The island's beaches amaze with their impeccable cleanliness and splendor. Their total length is almost 100 kilometers. Before choosing a beach, you need to pay attention to the fact that each region of Mauritius has its own unique characteristics. The western part of the island is excellent for water sports.

The best beaches of Mauritius are located here – on the west coast. The most popular of them are Volmar and Flic-en-Flac. They are characterized by clean sandy shores and magnificent sunsets from the beaches in the evenings. The magnificent Tamarin Bay is one of the twenty most popular places among divers. Swimming in Tamarin Bay is not very pleasant due to high waves and strong currents, but for those who like to “catch a wave” best place can't be found on the island. In the west of the island you can often see pods of dolphins swimming by.

East Coast- this place amazing landscapes and lungs sea breezes. Here is Belle Mare - one of the most beautiful beaches Mauritius. A special feature of the beach is the amazingly beautiful water in the bays and lagoons.

On the north coast Mauritius houses the main infrastructure of the island. Here are the main markets, shopping centers, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, architectural attractions and the best hotels.

South part The island has a mountainous terrain. It is less developed, but it also has wide beaches. The best beaches in the south of Mauritius are Bel Ombre and Trois d'Eau Douce. No less famous is the most fashionable beach on the island - Pereybere.

Mauritius is surrounded on all sides by small wild islands with excellent diving and swimming spots. Ile aux Cerfs is famous for its natural pools surrounded by sandy shores. They arose on their own upon penetration sea water deep into the soil.

It is necessary to remind that on any beach in Mauritius it is necessary to enter the water only in special rubber shoes.

The island of Mauritius, where we were lucky enough to spend two unforgettable weeks May holidays this year, there are almost 320 km of stunning beaches. How to navigate such diversity? I’m talking about those public beaches that I was able to visit personally. All of them are located on the west coast (we didn’t get to the east of the island this time), so from each of them you can admire the amazing Mauritian sunsets, when the sun literally “falls” into the Indian Ocean.

BeachBain Boeuf

Located on the northwestern coast, not far from the extreme northern point of the island (Cap Malheureux). Spacious public beach, on weekends, like all other beaches in Mauritius, it is quite crowded. There are sun loungers for rent, fast food kiosks, toilets and changing rooms. The beach offers stunning views of the islands of Coin de Mire, Ile Plate and Ile ot Gabriel located north of Mauritius.

BeachPereybere

Located south of Bain Boeuf beach. A small but very cozy beach with all the necessary beach infrastructure and a wide selection of cafes and restaurants nearby. The only thing is that we didn’t notice sunbeds and umbrellas: locals prefer to use their own equipment. There are several diving clubs nearby.

BeachLa Cuvette

A good public beach next to the yacht marina, casino and the most expensive and prestigious hotel in Mauritius - “Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury”. One of the cutest and cozy beaches on the west coast of the island.

BeachGrand Baie

Although on the maps there is a beach located in the bay itself Grand Bay(Grand Baie, in French), designated as a public beach, we had no desire to swim here: literally ten meters from the beach there is a busy highway, and Grand Bay is filled with boats, catamarans and other watercraft.

And the mini-fishing market located here, right by the beach, with its smells discourages the desire to relax nearby.

BeachMont Choisy

A fairly long and well-equipped public beach not far from Grand Bay. Traditionally deserted on weekdays and crowded on weekends, when Mauritians and their families go out to relax on the ocean.

BeachTrou aux Biches

The main advantage of this beach is a surprisingly relaxing holiday on a narrow but long (more than 3 km long) strip of snow-white sand. Its huge advantage is that the road is located in the distance, and the noise of cars does not bother you. The beach is equipped with everything necessary for a great holiday.

BeachFlic-en-Flac

The beach is located in the second tourist village, after Grand Bay, with many cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Quite a wide and picturesque strip of snow-white sand. An interesting feature: you look in one direction - coniferous trees, in the other direction - palm trees. There are sun loungers and parasols for rent, a toilet, a shower and changing rooms. But we didn’t like swimming here too much: a large amount of water was found in the water. sea urchins and sharp coral fragments. For those who snorkel, this is not a big problem, but for others, not to mention small children, the beach is hardly suitable.

BeachLe Morne

Wonderful beach at the foot of Le Morne Brabant mountain. Snow-white sand, smooth entry into the water, the presence of beach infrastructure and the absence of sea urchins in the water made it one of our favorite beaches in Mauritius.

The water here is surprisingly clear and it felt warmer than on other beaches. Another one interesting feature– only on Le Morne beach did we feel a fairly fast current along the shore.

Beach at Cape Gris-Gris (GrisGris) – the extreme southern point of the island

No swimming here. At the entrance to the beach there is a sign warning that swimming here is life-threatening. However, the beach itself is beautiful! Visiting this place was one of the most memorable moments in Mauritius for us. Only here on the island you can feel the true power of the Indian Ocean: on all other sides, Mauritius is reliably protected by a ring of reefs, and ocean waves can only be seen and heard on Gris-Gris. But it’s definitely worth doing - I’m sure the ocean elements will not leave anyone indifferent!

Tourists who come to Mauritius for a beach holiday never tire of admiring the luxurious wide beaches, cozy lovely bays with snow-white sand and the amazingly colored water of the Indian Ocean. Mauritius is almost completely surrounded by a powerful coral reef, blocking high waves and forming natural lagoons, ideal for beach holidays. On almost all beaches of Mauritius, tourists can find a variety of water activities . Often local travel agencies organize one-day trips boat trips to the small islands of Mauritius, where you can find ideal beaches and coral reefs suitable for snorkeling.

Only a small part of the coast of Mauritius is unsuitable for swimming due to high waves and rocky coastline, for example, in Riambel near Souillac, swimming is dangerous due to strong currents, sharp rocks and high waves. Locals can come to all the beaches on the island and have picnics here or just relax and swim, especially on weekends.

Hotels with the best beaches in Mauritius:

The most stunning sunsets can be observed from the beaches of Flic-en-Flac, Le Morne, Pointe aux Cannonieres and Mont Choisy. An evening on the beach, filled with the light of the rising moon, can be truly romantic. And when darkness falls, you can observe the constellation of the Southern Cross. Once upon a time, pirates and sailors used it to navigate in the southern hemisphere, since the North Star is not visible from this part of the hemisphere.

On the island of Mauritius you can watch twice a day ebb and flow. Unlike other resorts, such as Bali, the ebb and flow of the tides here are not felt as sharply due to the reefs holding back the ocean. Only in shallow bays during the full moon is the low tide noticeable for several hours. You can usually find the tide schedule in hotels, but it is more useful for amateurs aquatic species sports: waveriding, windsurfing and surfing. It is worth saying that Mauritius has many water sports centers, where you can get training or rent equipment. And from late October to mid-November, the island hosts international-level surfing and kitesurfing competitions - the Mauritius Kite Jam. Thus, you can easily complement your relaxing beach holiday in Mauritius.

All year round suitable for swimming: from 24° in July to 27° in January, which makes Mauritius a year-round resort for beach holidays.

You can diversify your beach holiday in Mauritius with an exciting or, where you will find swimming, snorkeling and barbecue on the beach.

You will find on our website, and more detailed characteristics of the beach of each specific hotel can be found in the description of the hotel for a beach holiday in Mauritius, in the “Sports and Entertainment” tab.

I worked in Mauritius as a tour guide for almost a whole year, and since then I really like to talk about it :) Today I’m going to tell you about how the different coasts of the island differ from each other, and what the island has in general for tourists.

First of all, I want to show you a map of the island and explain a little what's what there

The island of Mauritius is very small; you can cross it lengthwise by car in 2 hours. Across an hour and a half. Therefore, it makes no sense for tourists to choose the location of the hotel relative to certain attractions, because they can get to any point on the island very easily.

However, it makes sense to pay attention to which coast the hotel is located on, because everywhere there are pros and cons.

The north of the island is the town of Grand Bay and Pereybere Beach, which is considered one of the best beaches on the island. There really is sand everywhere, it’s not very windy, and what’s most valuable is that there is “civilization” here. The city of Grand Bay is perhaps the most party place in Mauritius. There are restaurants, discos, and hotels here that are quite good. In general, it is extremely comfortable to relax and live here.

(I just want to warn you right away that when I say “the most party place”, as well as “the most big lake" or "the coolest reserve" - do not forget to make allowances for the scale of the island, because what is “the best” for Mauritius may be quite common or even a “provincial” phenomenon for us :) Be objective!)

In the north of the island there is a submarine anchorage, the largest Botanical Garden in the Southern Hemisphere, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, which I definitely recommend you visit, and here is the capital Port Louis (don't forget to visit the post office, market and English fortress).

Grand Bay

Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses

Port Louis is the capital of the island

Next we move to the west, the pearl of which can be called the city of Flic-en-Flaq. It is also quite touristy, although a little smaller than Grand Bay. The advantage of the west coast is the extraordinary beauty of ocean sunsets and relative windlessness. Among the attractions located in the west, we can note the best reserve on the island, Casela (where you can fly between the mountains on a tight rope, hug with lions and tigers, go hiking in the mountains, go on a safari and much more), the treasure of the island - the Colorful Lands of Chamarel (islanders they claim that you will not find anything like this anywhere else in the world) and the Chamarel waterfall is the highest on the island. Further to the west are the Tamarin region and Cape Le Morne, where surfers love to relax.

Kasela Nature Reserve

Colored lands of Chamarel

The southern coast of the island is more agricultural than tourist, since here sugar cane plantations descend from the mountains and almost to the coast. Local hotels quite secluded, in the sense that there is absolutely nowhere to go outside the hotel. If you are a fan of discos, then in the evenings you will have to travel either west or even north to Grand Bay. But it is very calm here, a great place for family vacation, and if you are not vacationing in a hotel, then renting an apartment or room from local residents is relatively inexpensive. A landmark of the south is Cape Gris-gris, the southernmost point of the island, from where they say you can see Antarctica! (no one, of course, has ever seen it, because the South Pole is several thousand kilometers from here, but local guides like to repeat that there is no more land from here to Antarctica itself :)) And of course, the La Vanille park-reserve, where You can see crocodiles and ride a turtle!

The helicopter on which the most amazing excursions are made :)

The coolest turtle in the world)

On the east coast of Mauritius there is no " tourist centers", but there are many settlements of local residents, who are mostly engaged in agriculture. In such settlements there is no entertainment at all, but there are indeed tourist shops where you can buy souvenirs, cashmere products and branded items at affordable prices(some fashion houses, for example, Hugo Boss, have their factories on the island). There are plenty here good hotels, but we must keep in mind that the wind in Mauritius blows from the east (from the open ocean), so East Coast the windiest. And of course, the most fantastic sunrises over Indian Ocean here too.

The central part of the island is mostly large (on an island scale!) cities with a population of several tens of thousands of people. Administrative center islands - the city of Cure Peep - is distinguished by interesting colonial-type buildings and very high humidity - it almost always rains here.

In various parts of the central region of the island you can visit the ancient estates of former colonialists, the crater extinct volcano, several reserves where you can ride horses, hunt deer or ride ATVs, tea plantations, tea, sugar and rum factories, the sacred Hindu lake Ganga Talao with giant statue Shiva and various Hindu temple boxes.

Getting around the island is possible (and better) by car, because the local climate loves to delight tourists with sudden tropical downpours. If you are not afraid of getting wet, you can rent a scooter. For those who like to immerse themselves in the environment, there is a fairly developed bus network, the only drawback of which is the early end of work (if my memory serves me correctly, then after 9 pm buses no longer run around the island).

Motorists need to remember that, firstly, there is left-hand traffic here, and secondly, there are many very narrow serpentine roads, so you need to be extremely vigilant! Local drivers, of course, rush around like crazy, and they can also be classified as “obstacles on the roads.” Renting a car per day costs about 50 euros. The cost of gasoline is about 2 dollars per 1 liter. You can also rent a car with a driver - about 150 euros per day, or hire a taxi driver, who will most likely agree to take you around the island all day for ridiculous money, but along the way will insist on visiting all the shops you come across in order to get a percentage of your shopping. If you are still going to buy souvenirs, then let the guy earn some extra money - this will still not affect the final cost of your souvenirs, but the taxi driver will be happy. Single taxi trips around the island will be quite expensive, for example, the cost of travel within one city is about 10 euros.

I have already listed some of the island’s attractions above, but I would also like to say a few words about where you can go here.

The island has not a rich history, so you shouldn’t count on a variety of historical attractions. However, you still need to travel around the island, at least to visit the capital, Botanical Garden, the house of some planter, a rum or sugar factory, the sacred lake of the Hindus and the colored lands of Chamarel.

There's also a lot here active entertainment, the same zip line flights between mountains, ATVs, horses, helicopter flights, walks with wild animals, etc. Highly recommend.

Naturally, there is a huge selection on the island marine entertainment- traveling on catamarans, scuba diving, fishing for big fish, surfing, walking along the seabed, etc.

Walk along the ocean floor on an underwater scooter and fish for big fish

All these excursions cannot be called cheap, but a holiday in Mauritius itself is not a budget event :) So, if you have the financial means, you can take a full two weeks of vacation here.

Keep in mind that despite the presence of active entertainment, this is not a youth place at all. Well, judge for yourself - there are less than a dozen discos on the entire island. And at 9 everyone goes to bed..

No, of course young people will also be interested if they have money. And if you just want to hang out, dance and not go completely broke, then it’s better to fly somewhere else :) But for married couples 35+, people of retirement age and lovers of complete relaxation, Mauritius will seem like a paradise. I even think that I would like to meet my old age here... but spending my youth is unlikely :)

*All the photos in this post were taken with my then point-and-shoot camera, so the quality is not always brilliant) I don’t mark my photos, so if you need them for some reason, you can safely take them and use them for any purpose.
