Jasna - Slovakia's favorite ski resort

Jasna is the most popular ski resort in Slovakia and the main ski resort in the Low Tatras. There are few noisy people in Jasna apres-ski entertainment after skiing, there are no VIP hotels. Why is Jasna so famous in Slovakia and loved in ski world? The main advantage of Jasna is the versatility of the ski area!

Geography of ski resorts in the Low Tatras

The Low Tatras and their main ski resort Jasna are located in a valley in northern Slovakia near the border with Poland.

The main peak of the Low Tatras is Mount Chopok. On the southern and northern slopes of Chopok there are lift stations and numerous Jasna trails.

The distance of the Low Tatras from Uzhgorod is 260 km. It's only 3-4 hours by bus charter flights, which are organized by tour operators in winter period. Charter flights from Kyiv arrive at the nearest airport in Poprad, 65 km from Jasna.

From the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, to the Low Tatras - 300 km. Closest to Jasna thermal resort Liptovsky Mikulas has excellent railway connection with Kosice and Bratislava. And Jasna itself lies on the D1 expressway. Thus, it is easy to get to the resort from several directions and by any type of transport.

Features of skiing in the Low Tatras, Slovakia

Jasna is a ski resort that will appeal to everyone who loves skiing: skiers, snowboarders, fans of off-piste freeride skiing and tobogganing. The main difference between Jasna and other Tatra ski resorts is the large number of slopes.

The elevation difference in the Low Tatras ski area is 950 -2024m. Ski area Jasna - 18 trails with a total length of more than 50 km. The slopes are distributed very well: 6 blue slopes for beginners, 7 red slopes and 5 black ones for pros. The ski area is served by 22 lifts!

An interesting highlight of Jasna is the Low Tatras ski-pass. With this pass you can ride on any slopes and use free ski-bus not only in the Low Tatras, but also in the High Tatras - in Tatranska Lomnica, Strebske Pleso or Stary Smokovec. The High Tatras Ski-pass does not have such reverse magical powers. One-day ski-pass for an adult costs from 29€ , a 6-day subscription will cost from 140 €. Children under 6 years old ride free when accompanied by an adult. There are discounts for children 6-12 years old, teenagers (12-18 years old) and seniors over 60.

Jasna, like any ski resort in Slovakia, has rental points (10-12 € per day) and ski schools for adults and children from 3 years old.

Infrastructure of the ski resort Jasna

What should non-skating family members do in Jasna? The infrastructure of the ski resort is designed for a “gurney”.

Although the skating rink is filling up in Jasna, there are a lot of restaurants and their own night club, Jasna cannot boast of a large selection of entertainment.

25 km from Jasna is the largest in Slovakia entertainment center Tatralandia with thermal pools, a huge water park, bowling alley, cinema and sports entertainment. You can spend the whole day (if not a week!) in it, returning to Jasna in the evening to your favorite skaters.

At the entrance to the Low Tatras valley is the town of Liptovsky Mikulas (30 min. by regular bus from Jasna) with urban infrastructure, shops, restaurants and festivities.

Not far from Jasna there is a popular thermal resort in Slovakia, Beseneva, with numerous medicinal baths.

The resort town itself hosts many events in winter, starting with music festival for the opening of the season. Guests can enjoy fun and serious skiing competitions, regular ratrak stage parties, plastic bag racing, X-Drive arena, swimsuit skiing, tastings and gastronomic parties from the resort's restaurants.

Most hotels and apartments in Jasna are located at a distance of 100-400m from the nearest ski lift.

Hotels and apartments Jasna with increased comfort:

Grand Jasna 4*- the best among hotels in the Low Tatras of Slovakia. Grand Jasna is located 50m from the ski lift and the popular Happy End nightclub. The hotel has everything that a high-quality European 4* hotel should have - renovated rooms (deluxe category), good service and a free Wellness center.

Apartment Chalets De Luxe 4*— VIP category apartments. Elite accommodation option in a wooden chalet near the ski lift. The houses are divided into two families with incredibly cozy sitting areas, bedrooms, dressing rooms and a wonderful view. Breakfast is served directly to your room. Druzba Ski & Wellness Residence 4*- one of the most popular hotels in Jasna due to its good quality, convenient location right on the White Path ski slope and reasonable price. The hotel has its own Wellness center, which is paid additionally.

Family hotels Jasna in the forest with free ski-bus to the ski lifts

Chopok Wellness Hotel 4*- a hotel surrounded by forests and mountains with its own family infrastructure. Swimming pools for adults and children, game rooms with animators, bowling, billiards, excellent food, active evening events and free delivery on scheduled dates. ski slopes(10km).

The hotel is built in a special style with a combination of stone and wood with a very high level of service. A special highlight: the Tri Studnichky sauna, from which you can cool off in the steam room mountain river. Travel time on the free Ski-bus to the ski lifts is 15 minutes. You can also take the Ski-bus to the restaurants of Liptovsky Mikulas or to the Tatralandia water park.

Economical price/quality options:

In our opinion, the best economical accommodation options in the Low Tatras can be considered a hotel Mykulaska Chata 3*(200m from the ski lift, in a tree, there is a bowling alley, a Wellness center and a kolyba), SNP3*(within a radius of 50m there are 2 lift stations, massage room, tennis, billiards, sauna), apartments Penzion Joseph 2* And Vierka 2* When choosing these hotels (and there are many of them in Jasna), we took into account the location, cleanliness of the rooms and the ratio of price to quality of service.

Have you decided? Take a look. In our search module you can immediately enter the name of the hotel you like. Let's go skiing!

The Jasna ski resort is known to fans of winter sports: world-class competitions are held here every year. Hence excellent quality pistes and modern lifts.

But Jasna is still heading towards organizing family vacation- half of the slopes are intended for beginners, the ski school has an excellent area for activities with children, the après-ski program takes into account the interests of both children and adults, and the hotels are open all year round, inviting tourists to spend the summer in the mountains.

And one more argument in favor of holidays with children in Jasna: Slovak resorts so far offer very affordable prices.

Jasna on the map of Slovakia

The Jasna ski resort is located in the central part of Slovakia, on the territory of the Žilina region ( administrative center- city of Zilina). The distance from Jasna to Bratislava is 300 km, to Žilina - 100 km, to Liptovsky Mikulas - 16 km.

The Low Tatras mountain range, where Jasna is located, are relatively flat mountains. However, Mount Chopok, at the foot of which the resort is located, is the second highest peak in this region.

Due to the fact that the slopes begin at an altitude of about 2000 meters, good snow cover is maintained for almost 5 months.

Vacation with children

It is worth repeating the main reasons why the Jasna ski resort is so popular among tourists: high-quality slopes of different levels, modern ski lifts, entertainment for every taste, good hotels and reasonable prices. And a family holiday in Yasnaya has its advantages.

The ski school program meets modern standards, and learning on a special site is a pleasure. If your child is not interested in skiing, there are other activities at the resort.

Secondly, you can choose this resort if you want to relax with your child in comfortable hotel or cozy apartments, but without excessive pomp. Here you can even find hotels aimed at families with preschool children.

Thirdly, in Yasnaya there is enough entertainment for children outside the hotel. It's especially fun here in the summer when the amusement parks are open. The family vacation program can be filled with activities - for example, hiking and cycling.

Finally, summer in Yasnaya is a period of blissful calm. By choosing this resort for a trip with an infant, you will enjoy the silence, fresh air and cool, sunny weather.

One of the few drawbacks of the resort is the lack of direct communication with the airport: getting here requires transfers. To make the trip less tiring, you can arrange a transfer from the airport.

When is the best time to go?

The first vacationers come to the mountains even before the official opening of the season in Yasnaya, that is, at the end of November - beginning of December. A The best skiing awaits skiers from the end of December to the end of March. In April there is still snow on the slopes, but the condition of the slopes is not always conducive to comfortable skiing.

Duration ski season in Yasnaya - at least 150 days. If necessary, cover on the slopes is created using artificial snow.

When is the best time to go to Jasna to ski? The resort is calmest between the Christmas holidays and the beginning of February. At the end of winter and beginning of spring, many families from Slovakia come to the mountains, and even in such a large resort it can be a bit crowded.

Summer is no less suitable for a holiday with a child in Yasnaya than winter. In the mountains of Slovakia it is warm in summer, and you can devote a lot of time to outdoor activities. There is no heat at the resort, so July-August is the optimal time to travel with a baby to Jasna.

Weather and climate

The climate of Yasnaya is best called moderate: winters at the resort are snowy, but with slight frosts, summers are warm, but without heat. Acclimatization in such conditions goes unnoticed, and the vacation is a success.

Winter comes to Jasna already in November. During the day, thermometers show about +4°C, and at night the air cools down to -2-4°C.

In December, above-zero temperatures are not uncommon, although frost often lasts down to -1-2°C during the day and -3-5°C at night. December rarely brings sunshine, but thanks to heavy snowfalls, good snow cover quickly forms.

In January-February the weather is very similar to December, only the thermometer drops to -3-5°C during the day and -5-8°C at night. Occasionally there are night frosts down to -20°C, but they last no longer than one or two days.

In March, the air temperature rises to +3-4°C during the day and to -1°C at night. Clear days are finally returning, it snows a little less often than in winter - perhaps the weather for best holiday in Yasnaya with children it should look exactly like this.

In April the air warms up to +8-10°C, snowfalls are replaced by rains. In May it warms up to +15°C, and in June - August the daytime temperature rises to +20-24°C. The nights remain cold, about +8-16°C, so for summer vacation In Yasnaya you will need warm clothes.

In May - July mountain resort It is actively raining. But at the same time, there are more sunny days in summer than cloudy ones.

In September, the temperature drops to +15-16°C, and a sharp drop in temperature to +8°C is also possible. In October it gets cold to +8-9°C, at night thermometers show around zero. The weather is clear and it rains relatively rarely.

Transport

Public transport in Yasnaya can surprise you. For example, in addition to the usual ski buses that deliver skiers to the slopes, the resort has an aquaski bus - it runs between the ski resort and the Tatralandia water park.

Travel with a ski pass within the resort is free; schedules can be found at the hotel or tourist information center.

The only intercity transport in Jasna is buses going to Liptovsky Mikulas. A ticket to Liptovsky Mikulas costs about 1.20 euros, tickets for children 7-15 years old cost half as much.

To get around Yasnaya, you can call a taxi - there are several services at the resort, information about them is on the tourist website. If you are going to go to the mountains with your own or rented car, please note that there is only one parking lot in the center of Yasnaya, the rest are located next to the ski lifts.
