Budva is like Moscow in Russia - noisy, active and “non-rubber”. Montenegrin Budva is criticized, but still every year this city attracts a huge number of tourists. We were lucky - the first time we vacationed in Budva was back in 2011 and it was calmer, cheap city. Currently, Budva is very much built up. Soon there will be no free space here: huge anthill hotels are being built. Every piece of land is occupied with something.

If you love action, discos and nightlife, then, most likely, you will like it in Budva, but get ready to look for your “place in the sun” on the beach.

But we won’t talk about sad things, let’s return to the main topic of today’s conversation – the sights of Budva.

Among the attractions we will consider:

Well, in order to better navigate, we traditionally lay out a map of Budva with designated attractions.

Sights of Budva on the map:

Old town and fortress

View of Old city Budva and the fortress.

The Old Town of Budva is not much inferior to the Old Town in Kotor. Yes, it is a little smaller, but there are the same narrow pleasant streets, expensive restaurants, churches, and souvenir shops. But the main attraction here is the Citadel (fortress), from which the whole of Budva is visible.

Entrance to the fortress is paid - 3 € per person. Inside there is a large library with a collection of ancient books in different languages, collections of coins, paintings and pottery.

But the main thing is the view that opens from the top of the fortress. We recommend going up here in the evening to see Budva at sunset or the starry night sky.

Photo of old Budva from the fortress.

Houses of the old town of Budva. By the way, they live in these houses local residents, and some have hotels and hostels. But we do not recommend renting housing here, because... in the evenings there are a lot of people in the old town. The buildings are old, and rental prices are off the charts.

View of part of the fortress wall; concerts and festivals are often held here.

The streets of the old town are the hallmark and one of the main attractions of Budva.

There are many cafes, shops and souvenir shops here.

A small museum in the fortress with a library.

The museum mainly displays dishes and models of ancient ships with cannons.

Budva embankment

The embankment of Budva is very long, duplicated by a pedestrian path with cafes and parks. The embankment starts from the old town and ends with a pedestrian tunnel that connects Budva with Becici.

There are a lot of cafes and restaurants on the embankment to suit every taste and budget. In the evening, tables, soft pillows and candles are placed on the beach.

Near old Budva there are many excursion boats that work as taxis or conduct individual excursions. Expensive premium yachts are also moored here.

A section of the embankment near the old city and the citadel.

If you go to the right from the old town of Budva to Mogren beach, you can see another attraction - a monument to a ballerina or dancer, which always has a lot of people wanting to take pictures. Opens here beautiful view to the citadel and the old city.

We also decided to touch the beauty....

And this is the path leading to Mogren beach (but more about it in the next article).

In the evening, tables are set up along the embankment and part of the beach.

St. Nicholas Island (Hawaii)

This is another attraction of Montenegrin Budva. You can get to St. Nicholas Island or Hawaii by boat from Slavyansky Beach.

Trip price:

3€ – round trip;
5 € – round trip + circle around St. Stephen with a view of the Budva Riviera from the water.

The island itself is small and has several beaches.

There are only 2 cafes on the territory, no shops. Prices in the cafe are more expensive than in the city.

You can spend a whole day on the beach. The cost of 2 sunbeds + umbrella is from 10€ to 15€. This figure may vary from season to season.

You can’t walk deep into the island - everything is blocked off by fences, so here you can only swim, sunbathe and jump from rocks (entertainment for extreme sports enthusiasts).

The beaches are pebble, there are large stones in the water, it is better to take special shoes.

The water on the island seemed colder to us than on the city beaches of Budva.

There is a lot of shade from the rocks on the island, so you can do without umbrellas.

Another beach on the island.

The water on the island is cleaner than on the beaches of Budva, but colder.

Prices and schedules of boats to the island of St. Nicholas. The 4 euro option is just a walk along St. Stephen, there is no drop off.

Sveti Stefan Island

Another main attraction of Budva is the island of Sveti Stefan. Despite the fact that the island is already located outside of Budva, it is still the calling card of Budva. And by the way, you can walk to St. Stephen. The journey will take approximately 2 hours at a leisurely pace (8 km from the old town). We walked to Sveti Stefan twice and took the bus back to Budva.

Saint Stephen with observation deck(by the way, the island is very capricious for filming, we went to it three times to take photographs, the island is often in haze or in the shadows).

Photo of Sveti Stefan Island from the beach.

Near the island there is a small beautiful pine park.

....And sand beach with sunbeds for 100 euros!!!

On the map approximate route, how you can get from Budva to Sveti Stefan.

Read more about St. Stephen in our next article.

Now we’ll tell you a little about the entertainment for adults and children that is available in Budva.

Aquapark Budva

Budvarsky Aquapark. Prices depend on the season and duration of visit. Children under 100 cm tall have free admission.

Here are the prices in more detail in the photo:

Opening hours: from 10:00 to 19:00 in July and August, and from 10:00 to 18:00 in June and September. Yes, the season in Montenegro is not very long. Wi-Fi is paid – 1€ per day. Has its own parking.

Slides for adults in the Budva water park.

Children's pool with slides in the water park.

From the old town of Budva to the water park it takes only 10 minutes.

Attractions and discos

In the evenings in Budva, attractions start operating on the embankment. Basically these are various swings and carousels for children. Adults can ride on the racing track. Discotheques also open right on the embankment.

Music is not for everyone, loud pounding.

The entrance is free. The girls actively try to invite passers-by. Dancers dance on bar counters. All clubs/bars/restaurants located on the embankment are open until 12 at night. Then everything becomes quiet.

Open-air night club in Budva.

And of course, we should not lose sight of what, in our opinion, is a very important attraction of Budva and Montenegro in general - the beaches, which we will talk about in more detail in the next article.

In the meantime, we wish everyone a pleasant holiday!

How do we save on hotels?

It’s very simple - look not only on booking. We like the RoomGuru search engine. He searches for discounts simultaneously on Booking and on 70 other booking sites.

Budva is a famous resort and tourist city. Located in the central part of the coast Adriatic Sea in Montenegro. The city and surrounding area are known as the Budva Riviera. The latter is famous for its beaches with clean sand, various architectural monuments and vibrant nightlife.

Stari Grad

Street in Old Town

In order not to spend a long time looking for what to see in Budva, first of all you should get acquainted with a typical medieval settlement. To do this, you need to go from the modern part of the resort pearl to Stari Grad through the central gate. Or use one of the six remaining passages beyond the ancient fortress walls. By the way, 3 of them are located opposite the yacht piers.

Fortress walls

One of these entrances, the Door to the Sea, is currently not functioning. It has been transformed into a romantic hideaway with antique ivy-covered doors and is located some height from the ground. But take a photo in picturesque place, where not every tourist wanders, - good idea. A reference point for searching for “Doors to the Sea” is the English Pub in Stari Grad.

The ancient settlement is surrounded by a fortress wall in the shape of the letter “P”. To climb it, you need to use any of the 2 existing entrances leading to the fortress wall. You will find one opposite the kitchen belonging to the Mozart confectionery. Find the other one by the sea opposite the Citadel, but if you suddenly can’t get through the gate, go through the fence.

Citadel and Library

The citadel is the main fortification structure, built in 840. Mostly the buildings of the 15th century, which protected this area, have survived to this day. Near the Citadel there were other fortifications, connected by a fortress wall, and a village where local residents and defenders of the fortress lived. The village, in fact, became the Old Town.

In the Citadel you can visit the Budva Museum, see the symbol of the city - two connected fish, representing lovers Marco and Elena. There is also a library here, organized a century and a half ago. It is considered one of the oldest in the country; the library collection contains over 60 thousand books, including very rare and valuable publications.

Churches of Old Budva

Church of St. Ioana

You will not be able to pass by and will not be able to help but hear the beautiful chime of the bell tower of the Catholic Church of St. John, which rises above Budva. The bell tower was erected back in the 7th century. AD, but it was rebuilt a lot.

Next to the bell tower is a cathedral with a modest exterior in the Gothic style. However, its interior decoration is rich and luxurious. You can admire the icon with the miraculous face of the Virgin Mary, painted by St. Luke himself, and get acquainted with the exhibits of the rich library. One of them is a chronicle that describes the events taking place in these lands in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Also among the attractions of Budva and the surrounding area, where it is not at all difficult to go on foot, is the nearby Holy Trinity Church - an Orthodox church in the Byzantine style of the early 19th century. and the Church of St. Mary "on the promontory" ("in Punta").

The construction date of the monastery and church of St. Mary that once existed here is 840. Now it is not active, but externally it is well preserved, and here you can admire Roman mosaics that date back to the 2nd century. AD And thanks to the excellent acoustics of the temple, you can enjoy music concerts that are held regularly.

Old Castle is not all that can be seen in Budva on your own; other attractions are also available to any tourist.

Ballerina statue

This stele is a symbol of the city, its business card and the most photographed place in Budva. In addition, the best panorama of the Old Town opens here: the sea, mountains, fortress walls and terracotta tiled roofs of houses - all in one frame.

The dancer's stela is hidden among the rocks on a boulder on the way to Moren Beach. Finding this monument is easy if you know where to go. You need to walk along the path to the right of the walls of the old city, and after a few turns you will certainly see it.

Walking around Budva

As in any seaside city, you can take a walk in the heart of the Budva Riviera along the embankment. It is quite possible to rent a boat or boat, go fishing or just take a walk around the water area.

On the charming Promenade, everything is at the service of tourists: souvenir shops and cafes, reputable restaurants, fast food and attractions. The prices here are reasonable, and the views are especially calming. Closer to night, disco bars open their doors, so the question of where to go in Budva during the day or evening, young or old, practically does not arise.

Central Market

For a change, it wouldn’t hurt to visit the central market of Budva – Zelena Pijaca. It is open from 6 am to 3 pm, on Sundays until 1 pm. Here you can fully enjoy the local culinary exotics: cheeses, prosciutto, homemade olive oil, sea fish, popular wines - white “Vranac Prokorde” "and red "Vranac", grape brandy and "Bitter Leaf" liqueur.

All pickles are given a try in hopes of being purchased. Here you can bargain boldly, convincingly and politely, and as a result, you can take home edible souvenirs, which will be cut and carefully packed in a vacuum casing.

Budva surroundings

If you are still deciding what to see in Budva and where to go on foot, you can turn your attention to the surrounding area. There are also many educational attractions within walking distance.

For an active evening, you can choose a club on the Budva hills, Top Hill. It is one of the most popular in the country. A distinctive feature is that it works all night. The evenings are often hosted by world-famous disc jockeys and MCs.

Just behind the club is a water park that opened in July 2016. Tickets can be purchased for half or a whole day.

Mogren Fortress and Vidikovac panoramas

If you like walking, you can get to this object on your own. You need to make your way through the bush up the rocks from Mogren Beach. Or go to the tunnel that leads to Jaz beach and the city of Tivat, there is a path on the left. A few minutes - and you are already on the hill near the remains of a fortress built in the mid-19th century. You will have stunning views of Nikola Island, part of Budva, sea and turquoise Jaz Beach.

While visiting these attractions of Budva and the surrounding area, you can also see the city from the observation deck at the Vidikovac hotel. She is nearby. The hotel is surrounded by white gates, with a path to the right of them. After going down the stairs, go to the white arches and to the observation deck. Fabulous views of Old Budva and souvenir photos will remain in your heart for a long time. By the way, you can also get to these objects by taxi.

Sveti Nikola Island

Also among the places that you can see in Budva on your own, the island of St. Nikola is of interest. There is a nature reserve with pheasants, hares and deer. Entry there, unfortunately, is strictly prohibited. But there is also the Church of St. Nicholas, the pleasant coolness of the greenery of the forests, the purest sea water And sand and pebble beaches. But there are much fewer vacationers there than in the city.

Another landmark of Budva, stands on the mountain above the city. Adjacent to the Maine nightclub.

Restaurant Rybnyak

Road to the Rybnyak restaurant

Walking route 6 km along an asphalt road to the mountains above Budva.

We reach the Podostrog monastery, and then follow the road up. Cars rarely drive there, so walking is comfortable. You can go on foot or drive a car.

I went after lunch, when the heat subsided. I didn’t get to Rybnyak, but I looked at Budva from above, walked through the mountains, and reached the cemetery and church. The views there are beautiful, the mountains are cool, there are a lot of flowers and destroyed houses. The air is fresh and fragrant.

In Rybnyak there is a restaurant, a zip line, a swimming pool with sun loungers, a small waterfall (you can swim there in the summer).

The ancient city of Budva and the Budva Riviera

Budva - ancient city on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, rightfully considered its pearl. This place annually attracts millions of tourists with its beauty, open spaces, historical and cultural attractions.

A concrete arch bridge located at the crossroads between three cities - Pljevlja, Zabljak, Majkovac - and passing through the Tara River. It was named after the owner of a nearby farm.

Still resonates in human hearts tragic story bridge. It was built between 1938 and 1940. Its chief engineer was Lazer Yaukovich, whose fate is worthy of sincere regret. Due to the onset of the Second World War, he was forced to blow up his creation with his own hands. However, he tried to do this in such a way that in the future it would be possible to restore the project. For such a cunning combination, the Nazis mercilessly shot him.

Budva offers travelers a vibrant nightlife. During the maritime season, the entire riviera turns into one big party. But if you are staying in Budva, went to the beach, had dinner and are thinking about where to go, I will give you some tips. Although, it is better to perceive them as personal recommendations, because every year new establishments open in the city, some that did not pay for themselves over the past season close, and only the large ones please with stability.

Of the places worth visiting at night, I would like to highlight a few: firstly, this night club Trocadero. Secondly, the Top Hill disco. Thirdly, open areas on the coast. And fourthly, there are many places in the Old Town that also deserve attention. But first things first.

Trocadero is the oldest nightclub in Budva, located near the entrance to the Old Town. This is not a very large indoor space where concerts and parties are often held, and a real dance madness happens every night. But a tourist who comes there will be surprised by the choice of music. The fact is that this establishment is visited mainly by people from the former Yugoslav republics and local residents. Therefore, the standard repertoire of the club is turbofolk - a specific mixture of modern dance rhythms and folk music. For many, such songs cause rejection, however, after some time you will get used to them (but whether you will love them remains a question). Trocadero often hosts concerts by major Serbian and Croatian stars whose names you are unlikely to recognize. So this is hardly a suitable place to spend the night (unless, of course, you are a fan of this genre).

Probably the most popular place in Budva there is the Top Hill discotheque - a huge area located on a hill above Budva. You can get there by bus in five minutes, paying very little, but taxi drivers work full time all night, raising prices to the ceiling. Based on the Miracle Lounge project, once the grand plan of the defunct Mirax company, Top Hill is one of the largest discos in the region and attracts incredible crowds. It is recommended to go there, but be aware that alcohol prices are steep, and don’t give taxi drivers more than five euros, it’s unreasonable. Always ask about the price in advance. However, then the chance of not getting there at all increases, because the demand for transportation on summer nights is simply enormous.

Open areas on the coast are located almost close to each other throughout the entire coastline. Each of them turns the music louder, trying to drown out the noise of its neighbor, which turns the shore into real chaos. However, these places are always filled with vacationers (Trocadero also opens its summer playground on the shore, but the music here is more European). All these discos are no different from each other, although they try to attract people with promotions, go-go girls, half-naked dancers and tempting discounts. In any case, it’s worth visiting at least one of them - it can be fun!

According to the laws of Montenegro, noise and music must stop at one in the morning so that local residents do not go crazy. But in reality this is done extremely reluctantly, the music is only slightly muffled. Then the municipal inspectorate comes to the city, but the notification between the owners is clearly organized, and by the time the inspector arrives, everything will be at an acceptable level. And after he leaves, the fun picks up again.

The old town is filled with cafes, many of which have dance floors. Modern dance music plays here (all cafes are near the city wall), jazz (Casper), turbo folk (Jeff's), live musicians play (Konoba Stari Grad). You can choose your own entertainment to suit your taste, moving from one place to another. Per hour at night everyone turns down the music (they are afraid not so much of the inspectors as of the indigenous inhabitants of the Old Town, forced to endure the same thing year after year), but guests sit as long as they please, and as long as at least one table is occupied, no one will close any bar or cafe.

In the evening in Budva it is very fun and noisy. Walk boldly, have fun - this is Montenegro after all!
