Relax at a thermal resort before Christmas. Bike rides in the surrounding area. Part 7.

Part 7. We decided to devote some days to exploring the surrounding area, renting bicycles from the hotel and going for a ride. The trips turned out to be very wonderful and completely calm. When you travel on roads if there are no bike paths, the main thing is to feel mutual respect among the road users. Nice hotel with thermal pools and a range of spa services. Nice rooms and excellent breakfasts.

Nice hotel with its own free parking. Access to thermal pools, hammam and sauna is included in the price. Breakfast is included in the price, but lunch and dinner are paid separately. There are brochures in Russian on additional, paid services (mud therapy, massage, etc.). In winter it was even hot in the room. The heating is fine.

Quiet, calm, expensive. Relaxed in the evenings live music, the local people, entirely of retirement age, are decorously eating snacks and drinking Apperol. Montegrotto Terme is a fashionable thermal resort in the south of the Veneto region in Italy. Known for its healing properties mineral waters, used to treat a wide range of diseases. IN locality There is a wide network of hotels to suit every taste and budget.

Description

The commune of Montegrotto Terme is a small resort town with a population of 10,000 people near Padua. It is not as well known among the general public as neighboring Abano Terme. But it is well known in high society as a place for a relaxing holiday. This is a fairly expensive resort, where distinguished guests are offered VIP-level services. Throughout its history, Montegrotto has been visited by many worthy people: scientists, philosophers, politicians, cultural figures. Among them are Petrarch, Mozart, Goethe, members of the royal families of Europe and others.

Architecturally, the town embodies what ordinary people think of a resort: cozy, quiet streets surrounded by greenery; low-rise buildings in the form of expensive cottages and villas; ancient neighborhoods interspersed with ultra-modern spas and hotels. From a bird's eye view, the pools are clearly visible, reflecting the blue surface of the sky. The romantic appearance is complemented by medieval churches and orchards.

Historical reference

Hot springs among the greenery of the magical Euganean Hills have been known since ancient Rome. Livius and Plutachers recovered their health in local baths. Under Emperor Augustus, a magnificent bath complex with luxurious pools decorated with statues and mosaic panels was built here.

Ancient excavations in the 18th and 20th centuries revealed numerous ruins of a large spa complex dating back to the second half of the first century BC. Particularly impressive is the plumbing system, through the use of lifting mills that pumped water into three tanks used for bathing. Parts of other structures such as a theater and swimming pools were also found.

Today, in the vicinity of Montegrotto Terme, there is an indoor archaeological exhibition, where the remains of buildings of Ancient Rome are presented:

  • Maly Theater.
  • Biassidato building (purpose unknown).
  • Ancient hydraulic system.
  • Thermal pools.

Healing factors

The entire area south of Padua is a resort area. Today, the Parco Regionale dei Colli Euganei nature reserve has been created on the Euganean Hills, designed to protect the unique local landscape and preserve the impeccable ecology. The hills are the remnants ancient volcano, active 50-60 million years ago. Although active volcanic activity has long ceased, magma continues to bubble somewhere in the depths. It saturates with minerals and heats the water, which under pressure breaks to the surface in the form of hot springs.

The temperature of the “mineral water” reaches +90 °C, so before serving it is cooled in pipes and special tanks to the required values. To enhance medicinal properties Spa centers use additional procedures: wraps, compresses, clay therapy. The sources contain a lot of magnesium, calcium, bromine, iodine, and potassium. Healing waters fight inflammation, relieve headaches, regenerate the lubricating tissue of joints, and improve cell metabolism.

The commune has over 140 hotels for all groups of the population: from luxurious 5-star hotels to affordable 2-star hotels. More than 300 more proposals are from private property owners. Important feature is that the vast majority of them offer spa treatment services either on their own basis or enter into an agreement with medical complexes.

Expensive hotels, as a rule, have spa centers with expensive modern equipment, fitness rooms, indoor thermal baths and outdoor swimming pools with mineral water. Procedures and treatment are carried out by specialists with medical education or who have undergone special training. For famous people VIP treatment is offered.
