Food form at the hotel- food and drinks included in the price of accommodation and offered to the client during their stay at the hotel.

Basic forms of nutrition

The type of food at the hotel is indicated immediately after the room type. As a rule, it is denoted by two or three Latin letters:

  • R.O.(Room only) - without power.
  • E.P.(European Plan) ,BO(Bed Only) A.O.(Accommodation Only), NO- without food.
  • BB(Bed & breakfast) - breakfast. As a rule, this means a breakfast buffet. Buffet option. Includes both cold and hot dishes. The variety of dishes varies greatly from country to country.
  • HB(Half board) - half board. Typically breakfast and dinner, but breakfast and lunch are also possible.
  • FB(Full board) - full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
  • A.I. (All inclusive) - all inclusive - breakfast, lunch and dinner (buffet). During the day, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are offered in unlimited quantities, plus additional meals (second breakfast, afternoon tea, late dinner, light snacks, barbecue in hotel bars, etc.)

Additional forms of nutrition

  • C.B.(Continental breakfast) - continental breakfast (also called french breakfast). Light breakfast consisting of coffee (tea), juice, buns, butter and jam. Typically offered in European city hotels. “Coffee + croissant” characterizes such breakfasts very well. Minimal variety, but also significant savings if you pay extra.
  • AB(American breakfast) - American breakfast (also called English breakfast). The main difference from the breakfast buffet is that the only hot dishes are scrambled eggs with bacon (sometimes sausages).
  • UAI(Ultra all inclusive) - breakfast, late breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner (buffet). A large selection of sweets, desserts, all kinds of snacks, as well as a wide selection of local and imported drinks. Most hotels operating under the Ultra All Inclusive system offer guests additional free meals in restaurants serving cuisine from around the world. The main difference from the All inclusive system is a higher level of food and drinks. Typically found in countries such as Türkiye and Egypt. Hotels in other countries rarely use this term.

Power supply forms

  • A la carte- Menu service by waiters. If meals are included in the price of your stay or prepaid, then a choice of dishes is provided for several items.
  • Buffet- Self-service. The dishes are laid out on trays and everyone picks up the right amount for themselves. Drinks are served either right there at the bar or by waiters. Tea and coffee are poured independently.

Power RO

Almost all employed people, and even the unemployed, take their holidays abroad seriously. And this is understandable: there is only one vacation a year, so you want to spend your “vacation” with the greatest pleasure and in the best way possible. Memories of your vacation will warm you up during your working days and give you strength for fruitful work. That is why, when planning your vacation, it is important to take into account all the little things so that your impressions are not spoiled by any troubles that you did not foresee in advance. Tour operators are usually required to provide notice when booking hotel rooms along with room types, availability own beach and swimming pools, quality of service, various entertainment activities, medicine and various types of food. After all, how much more free time remains if you do not constantly need to worry about obtaining “food”. And, as many vacationers have noticed, a change in environment often affects an increased feeling of hunger. We will introduce you to the main types of food at the hotel, in particular about the RO food system.

What does RO nutrition mean?

The fact is that to prevent all kinds of misunderstandings between many travel agencies and tourism entities, various international terms and designations are used. There are also abbreviations for English language, characterizing the form of food (namely food and drinks that will be fed to vacationers) in hotels. The most popular types are AL, HB, UAI, BB, HB, FB, etc.

For example, AL is All inclusive, so familiar to our tourists, or all inclusive, guaranteeing full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner). The abbreviation UAI (that is, Ultra All inclusive) means four meals a day of high quality.

The designations BB (bed+breakfast, that is, only breakfast at the hotel), HB (half-board, or half board - breakfast and dinner), FB (full board, or full board - three meals a day) are often used.

Unlike the types of food listed above in hotels, RO stands for Room only and means that feeding is not included in your travel package. This means that you will be able to freely use your room, all entertainment facilities, including swimming pools, but you will have to eat in a bistro, cafe or restaurant.

When is the RO meal type booked?

Agree, the complete lack of provisions is quite inconvenient and suits few people. Many people are especially unhappy, for example, with having to look for a seat in a crowded cafe or restaurant in the morning, because the cost of food in the hotel itself is far from low and will cost a hefty sum. In addition, it is necessary to know the area where you are planning a vacation. This will help you choose a good cafe with excellent cuisine and service and not overpay “mad” money. Therefore, this type of food is rare in RO hotels due to its unpopularity.

However, there are situations when RO meals are still booked. This designation is used on last-minute travel packages for attracting tourists with reduced tour costs. Sometimes vacationers themselves choose this type of food because they either do not trust the hotel kitchen or because of health reasons they require a special diet.

Often, hotel room reservations include the RO type of meal plan, when vouchers are ordered by various institutions and companies for their employees when organizing conventions and conferences. At the same time, worries about their feeding fall on the shoulders of the event participants. Be careful when booking rooms: in addition to designating meals in RO hotels, the lack of meals may be indicated as BO, AO, OB. But usually, for comfort, vacationers are recommended to choose the all-inclusive or ultra all-inclusive type of food.

HB nutrition - what is it?

Choosing a hotel where you are going to spend your holiday is a very responsible matter, because everything in it should suit your taste and your preferences. What is important is the location of the hotel, the size of the rooms, their equipment (the presence of a TV and other benefits of humanity), in fact, appearance this hotel and, of course, food. Food is an integral part of life for every person, so food is an important part of choosing a hotel. But opposite the nutrition column you can only see some incomprehensible abbreviations that tell you absolutely nothing about the taste of the food or its quality. Yes, what is there, these abbreviations are generally silent and tell you absolutely nothing about food at the hotel.

So, in this case, let's figure out what these letter abbreviations conceal. And everything, as always, is very simple. Abbreviations indicate types of food in hotels (HB, BB, etc.). The most popular abbreviations are HB, BB and FB. But what are these NV, BB and FB?

  1. VV power system. This abbreviation stands for Bed&Breakfast. This means that only the morning meal will be free (included in the price of your trip). Breakfast is a Buffet or Continental breakfast. You can choose this system if you do not intend to spend a lot of time at the hotel and will eat, for example, in restaurants or cafes.
  2. NV power system. This abbreviation stands for Half Board. Meals at the NV Hotel include breakfast and lunch, or breakfast and dinner (your choice). Usually they choose the option of breakfast plus dinner, since this schedule is much more convenient. This food system is perfect for you if you are going to spend the whole day outside the hotel and come back in the evening for dinner. This is very convenient, since you don’t have to think about dinner every day and spend extra money in restaurants.
  3. FB power system. The decoding of this abbreviation is simple - Full Board. And, as you probably already guessed, this means full board, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This nutrition system is convenient for people who like to adhere to a clear daily routine and are accustomed to eating in a calm environment and at a set time.

There are also several different food systems in hotels. OB – Only Bed, which means hotel accommodation without meals; Al – All Inclusive, the famous “All Inclusive”, which includes absolutely everything - breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, as well as additional meals such as second breakfast, afternoon tea, etc. There are also food systems with add-ons, for example HB+, which includes two meals and free drinks, FB+ - three meals and drinks.

We figured out what NV, BB and other delights of life are. The main thing is to make the right choice so as not to be tied to meals at the hotel, because after all, the trip is needed in order to relax and admire the beauty of another country, and not to sit all the time in the hotel restaurant, devouring food. Therefore, NV is rightfully considered the most optimal nutrition system, and it is the best one to choose. But the choice, of course, remains yours and your preferences. After all, the main thing is a good and high-quality vacation, which will bring pleasure and leave behind pleasant memories.

Now you are armed with knowledge and know that this is NV nutrition. Now not a single abbreviation can confuse you, and you can easily choose the type of food that suits you in the hotel that is suitable for you in order to have a good and useful rest.

These are abbreviations for the names of food systems in hotels. Hotel food types have Anglo-American roots, so decoding them is not a problem. Let's divide them into groups and find out the meanings.

Types of food with abbreviation and explanation

The standard system of the Russian segment of the tourism business often uses the following abbreviations to designate types of food in hotels. Let's present their decoding and description:

  • RO (room only), also possible: OB (Only Bed) or AO (Accommodation Only). Directly translated: “room only” - only accommodation is provided. Decoding the abbreviation OB (Only Bed)– “bed only” or AO (Accommodation Only)– “accommodation only.”
  • BB (Bed and Breakfast). Literally – “bed and breakfast”, it means accommodation with the provision of morning lunch. The main feature of “bb” is the absence of lunch or dinner included in the paid reservation.
  • HB (half board). Only breakfast and dinner are provided.
  • HB+. The “hb” food subtype means adding local alcoholic drinks to the evening meal.
  • FB (full board). Should be translated as "full board" as well as "whole board", the origin of the concept is similar to "hb". Accordingly, today meals in hotels of this type should include dinner and lunch in addition to BB conditions. The hotel can offer different types of food service, both a la carte and buffet style.
  • FB+ Relates to FB in the same way as HB and HB+, it is the same full board system, but locally produced drinks are served.
  • AI (all inclusive). Literally “all inclusive”, a type of room with full service. Typically, three meals served buffet style will include snacks throughout the day. The bars offer locally produced drinks all day.
  • UAI (ultra all inclusive). Corresponds to “ultra all inclusive”, used in Turkey and Egypt to indicate a higher level of food and beverages compared to All inclusive, foreign production. An additional afternoon tea and a second late buffet dinner are also available.

Types of food in hotels: American classification

When traveling to different parts of the world, you may also encounter other designations of food types, otherwise - plan. Here is a breakdown of such a food system in hotels:

  • AP (American Plan). “American” - in addition to the room, the stated price includes morning, afternoon and evening meals. European hotels accordingly designate this system as “full board” - FB.
  • MAP (Modified American Plan). “Modified American” presupposes the presence of lunch (it can be served in the afternoon or evening at the request of the guest) and, with any choice, morning lunch. You can compare this “plan” with the “half board” HB.
  • CP (Continental Plan). “Continental”: a guest occupying a room under these conditions will be offered breakfast included in the price. Compliant with BB.
  • BP (Bermuda Plan). However, in the American classification, BB has another analogue - “Bermuda” - a particularly hearty morning lunch is served in the morning, essentially closer to lunch.
  • EP (European Plan). “European” is usually the least expensive for the guest and only includes the provision of accommodation, fully complying with the RO, OB, AO systems.

Features of specifying types of serving

Separately, for the convenience of choosing the type of food, you should indicate the types of breakfast serving and their differences.

  • Continental. Includes coffee, hot chocolate, tea, sugar, milk, cream, lemon, marmalade, jams, honey, hot buns, croissants, bread, butter and olive oil. The Sunday version is possible with a cold boiled egg.
  • Advanced. Guests are offered all the standard continental items, as well as juices, deli meats, omelettes, fried eggs, boiled eggs, yogurt, curds, and dry cereals. Serving is often carried out according to the buffet system.
  • English. Very dense, be sure to serve buns, toast, jam, honey, butter, jam for tea, coffee and hot chocolate are possible, but not required. The main dish is scrambled eggs with ham or sausages, smoked fish, red beans in tomato sauce.
  • American. Plain water with ice, juices, fruits, sometimes compote, cereal flakes, served with milk, fried or baked meat, and pie are required.
  • Late breakfast. Combines elements of breakfast and lunch: tea and coffee, juices and mineral water, milk, buns, butter, jam, cheese, soups, hot meat dishes, desserts.

Food systems in hotels are always classified as standard, so this information about the designation and decoding of abbreviations will help you book hotel rooms with pleasure.

Majority Russian tourists When going on a long-awaited vacation, they prefer to relax using the all inclusive system. And it’s not surprising, because by paying the cost of the tour, you can have a great time in a hotel with all the amenities and not spend anything more than what you paid at home.

Most often, the all-inclusive food system is offered in hotels, but sometimes it can be found in other countries. Due to the fact that there are more and more varieties of all inclusive every year, it is better to understand what their difference is and what is included in the “vacation package”.

The essence of the concept of “all inclusive”

All-inclusive meals, or in English (ALL) are pre-paid services that are provided to the guest after check-in. The most common ALL options are the following list of services:

  • accommodation in a room of the designated category;
  • three meals a day throughout the day on a buffet basis;
  • locally produced drinks, including alcohol;
  • other types of services (in-room safe, mini-fridge, etc.).

Thus, all-inclusive meals allow you to forget about many of the problems associated with organizing your vacation. There is no need for additional costs Money to pay for dinner in restaurants, since the hotel will offer tourists buffet meals, where no restrictions are imposed on the amount eaten. Depending on the hotel category, the number of dishes ranges from 3 to 10, and fresh pastries, desserts, sweets and fruits are also provided.

Drinkers will appreciate the all-inclusive meal plan due to unlimited access to locally produced alcohol. However, you need to be prepared for the fact that strong drinks that are not produced in the holiday destination will need to be paid extra. Freshly squeezed juices and ice cream, as a rule, are also not included in the ALL price. Among the free services will be relaxation at the hotel pool and on the beach, a children's animator and, possibly, an evening program.

Types of all-inclusive system

Exist different types all inclusive, which differ depending on the country of holiday, the level of the hotel, the cost of the trip and other factors. It is worth noting that there are no standards for what should be included in all-inclusive meals, so a lot depends on the hotel’s reputation, competition and the imagination of the managers.

Despite this, hotels with a 2-3 star level also offer locally produced drinks at their own expense. In 4-5 star hotels, the price also includes the use of beach accessories and related equipment.

There are several abbreviations for the term "all inclusive". Almost every tourist knows how the concept is defined. The most common are ALL (all inclusive), mini ALL (used in UAL (a wider range of free services in hotels

Ultra all inclusive meal plan

Ultra All inclusive is a significantly expanded list of services that a tourist pays for when purchasing a ticket to the selected hotel. This system is most developed in luxury five-star hotels in Egypt and Turkey. Typically, it includes the following:

  • 24-hour food service (brunch, afternoon snack, night dinner);
  • food delivery to the room;
  • imported alcohol;
  • daily replenishment of minibars in the rooms;
  • free tennis and bowling;
  • visiting the SPA center, sauna, massage room;
  • entertainment in hotel amusement parks and water parks;
  • water sports.

All-inclusive meals (as we have already said as it is designated) are a very convenient holiday concept. But the “ultra all inclusive” system is usually quite expensive (more expensive than simple All inclusive). It is worth clarifying that, in turn, Ultra All inclusive has dozens of types: Mega All inclusive, Imperial All inclusive, All inclusive de luxe and so on.

All inclusive in Europe

The European ALL system differs significantly from the all-inclusive meals in Egypt and Turkey. The reason for such differences lies in the very nature of All inclusive, which is in demand at resorts where all entertainment is located on the hotel premises. European tourist centers, on the contrary, abound in various restaurants, bars, discos and local attractions. Therefore, Europeans consider the all-inclusive system an unnecessary excess.

Having paid for All inclusive, the guest receives a bracelet or other insignia, which gives the right to three meals a day and local alcoholic drinks. Additional services may include water aerobics, tennis or a sauna. 3-star hotels do not provide any special entertainment.

When buying a ticket, it is better to check with the tour operator which system is used in the selected hotel and what is included in it. Upon arrival on vacation, you will be able to receive complete information about the services provided.

When purchasing a tour or booking a hotel, pay attention to what meals are included. Thanks to our article on international hotel food designations, you can immediately determine what to expect.

RO, BO, AO(room only, bed only, apartaments only) – abbreviation for "no power" type. You will only be offered accommodation; all drinks and food will have to be purchased. In rare cases, there is water and/or tea, coffee, but this is a bonus from the hotel, and not an obligation to provide it to you Additional services.

BB(bed & breakfast) – designation of food in hotels “breakfast only”. You can take advantage of a prepared breakfast or buffet (on beach resorts usually the second option), but nothing more. Breakfast is served in the main restaurant (usually), drinks can be either paid or free, but the second option is more common.

BB+(bed & breakfast +) is an abbreviation for an extended breakfast (additional services may be included, but is extremely rare).

HB(half board) – meals at the hotel “half board”, breakfasts and dinners. Some hotels allow you to change dinner for lunch, but it is better to check in advance whether this is possible in yours. Drinks are free at breakfast and paid for at dinner.

HB+(half board +) – extended half board. This designates the type of food in hotels, which differs from the previous one in free drinks at dinner.

FB(full board) - an abbreviation for the type of food “full board”. This means that you have three meals a day and paid drinks at lunch and dinner.

FB+(full board +) – extended full board, that is, with free drinks at every meal.

AI,ALL(all inclusive) - our tourists’ favorite type of food in hotels is all inclusive. Buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, often additional meals, free drinks throughout the day (or during a specified period), including alcoholic drinks (usually locally produced).

UAIUALL(ultra all inclusive) - the same as AI, but there are some imported drinks and sometimes additional services (for example, tennis courts, boat rental, massage, etc.).

Types of food in hotels

What type of food should you choose if you are flying to the country for the first time? What kind of food is common where?

The all-inclusive type of meals (AI, ALL, UAI, UALL) is most often found in Turkey and Egypt. It may happen that outside your hotel there will be no cafes or shops within walking distance, so the vast majority of tourists take the all-inclusive option. Sometimes it is also chosen for beach holiday in Europe, Tunisia, UAE, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Maldives, Greece.

The “full board” (FB and FB +) option for meals in hotels is usually found in beach cities in Europe: Cyprus, Spain, Italy, the south of France, Greece, Malta. Less often in other places, but almost every resort has such hotels. This option is suitable for those who spend time both at the hotel and nearby, for example, on the beach or in the surrounding area.

The food system in hotels "half board" (HB and HB +) is found where tourists go on excursions, but at the same time there is something to do in hotels. The countries are almost the same as in the previous case, but the UAE and some hotels in Asia are also added. For example, in the morning you had breakfast, then went on excursions or a walk for the whole day (lunch would have been lost), had dinner in the evening and relaxed on the hotel grounds - near the pool or watching a show.

Another type of food - “breakfast only” is suitable for those who spend very little time in hotels. These are mainly hotels in Asia, as well as urban European hotels (in the center of France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic). Breakfast meals can also be used by those tourists who do not want to overpay for a trip.

Hotels without meals are more common for those who book hotels on their own than for those who receive them as part of a tour. However, this option is usually available for all countries, but sometimes tours with breakfast are cheaper than without meals, because many inexpensive hotels have breakfast included in the price by default.
