How to get to Sunny Beach

The resort is located away from big cities and major transport hubs, so you will have to get there through neighboring cities - Burgas or Varna. The monetary and time costs of air travel are approximately the same, the difference in ticket prices is 10-20 EUR. Prices on the page are for October 2018.

The drive from Burgas is closer; it is located 40 km from Sunny Beach. Transport departs from the Southern Bus Station, to which bus No. 15 runs every hour from the air gate. In summer, cars to the resort run every 10-30 minutes from 6:00 to 23:50. In winter there are fewer flights and longer intervals. One of the routes towards the resort passes by the airport and a stop 300 m from it (the landmark is a sign with a crossed out inscription “Sarafovo quarter”). So it is not necessary to go to the city center to the bus station, but instead of 20 minutes you will have to wait 40. A one-way fare costs 7 BGN (children - 3.50 BGN, up to 7 years - free), the journey will take about an hour. A taxi driver will deliver you faster, in 40 minutes, but will charge you at least 55 BGN for the trip.

Directions to public transport Around the city in Burgas and Varna it costs 1 BGN.

From Varna, which is 1.5 hours drive from the resort, it is more expensive to get there; a taxi will cost no less than 100 BGN. To save money, you first need to get from the airport to the Central Bus Station by bus No. 409 (about 15 minutes). From there there are 3 daily flights (at 8:00, 9:00 and 14:00) to Nessebar and Burgas, which pass through Sunny Beach. You will have to spend almost 2 hours and 12-14 BGN on the road. Districts of Sunny Beach

The resort stretches 10 km along the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria from Old Nessebar to Sveti Vlas. Since the town was originally conceived as a resort, almost its entire territory is occupied by hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. tourism infrastructure. The cost of living practically does not depend on the area; the further from the coast, the cheaper. There are more inexpensive Soviet hotels in the center, and modern hotel complexes in the Chaika and Fregata quarters.

Sunny Beach is considered a youth resort, so bars, clubs and discos can be found in any area.

The southernmost quarter of the city is Satdiona. From there it is closest to the attractions of old Nessebar; on the outskirts there is a football stadium. Further from south to north is the Fregat area. There, on South Beach, the Deep Blue diving center and a popular nightclub are open. Most of the beach activities are concentrated in the central part of the resort. There is also a water park, and mini golf courses along the embankment. For shopping, it is also better to go to the center - there is a large shopping center there. In the northern quarter of Chaika - a more expensive and respectable holiday. Modern ones were built here expensive hotels, and nearby there is a large complex with a golf course.

Video test for knowledge of Bulgaria | 10 tricky questions for tourists:

Transport

There are about 5 routes from Nessebar through Sunny Beach towards Sveti Vlas and Elenite. They all pass along the same street, on which all 8 are located bus stops city, some stop at the bus station. In addition to local transport, regular buses from Burgas, Sofia and other cities stop everywhere. Travel on city routes costs 2 BGN, on intercity routes it depends on the distance - from 6 BGN.

In a taxi, it is better to pay attention to the road - the driver can drive in circles, turning up the meter.

There are several taxi companies operating in Nessebar and Sunny Beach. You can order a car by phone or book online. Due to the great popularity of the resort, the tariffs here are very high, and the likelihood of fraud on the part of the taxi driver is high. The trip will cost no less than 4.50 BGN. This is both the minimum tariff and the call fee, but unscrupulous drivers try to add up these payments and rip off 9 BGN. Next, you will need to pay 3 BGN for 1 km during the day and 3.50 BGN at night, for a minute of waiting or idle time - 1.50 BGN.

There are bicycle and electric car rental points on the embankment. Prices for renting a two-wheeler are 5 BGN per hour or 25 BGN per day, for a small open car - 30 BGN per half hour.

Rent a Car

There are no attractions in the town itself; on excursions you will have to go to Nessebar, Burgas and other Bulgarian cities. Of course, you can get around by public transport, but in order not to depend on anyone or anything, it is better to rent a car.

The roads in the city are not very good in some places, but you can drive. There are serious traffic congestions, especially on Fridays and Sundays on the highway towards Burgas. Parking is paid and prices, in comparison with other Bulgarian resorts, are quite high - 2-3 BGN per hour and 12 BGN per day. Parking for more than 4 hours is paid as for the whole day, so it turns out to be more profitable. Near almost every parking lot there is a large blue sign with the letter P and prices in Bulgarian and English.

The resort employs mainly local companies - Top Rent-a-Car and others. Prices for budget cars start from 50 BGN per day, the choice is small. At Burgas airport it is a little more expensive, but the range is much wider, there are offers from international Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, InterRent.

Communications and Wi-Fi

For those who plan to talk a lot with home, it is better to switch to local connection. The 3 main Bulgarian companies are Telenor, M-Tel and VivaCom. Each of them has prepaid tariffs convenient for tourists, but Telenor has the most profitable one. The SIM card itself costs 6 BGN, the amount already includes 30 minutes for calls to Russia and 1000 MB of Internet. If the starting time is not enough, you can connect an additional package - 50 minutes for 9.90 BGN or 100 minutes for 19.90 BGN. Tariff plans are sold in mobile phone stores (you will need a passport to connect) and at supermarket checkouts. To replenish the balance, vouchers for 5-20 BGN are used, you can buy them in grocery stores.

There is no need to conclude an agreement, but passport data is entered into the mobile operator’s database.

You don’t have to worry about accessing the Internet at the resort, but choosing a hotel with free Wi-Fi- and forget it completely. The entire territory of Sunny Beach is equipped with access points; connections are available anywhere - on beaches and streets, in hotels, restaurants, shops.

Beaches of Sunny Beach

The beach stretches for 10 km along the entire Sunny Beach, the width is from 60 m in the south and north to 100 m in the center. For its cleanliness and environmental friendliness, this part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast was awarded the Blue Flag. Excellent for families with small children - sandy surface, smooth entry into the water, shallow near the shore.

Some tourists prefer to buy a beach umbrella for 20-30 BGN in a store, and at the end of the vacation they give or sell it to other vacationers.

All beaches are municipal, entry to them is free, but you will have to pay for using the infrastructure - 7-15 BGN for a set of two sun loungers and two umbrellas. There is usually plenty of room to spread out with your own towels, but some areas are managed by hotels. They are almost completely filled with sun loungers, and you won’t be able to lie down on the sand there. Toilets are also paid - about 0.50 BGN - and are not as common as we would like.

During high season, the beaches are quite crowded. There are equipment rental points everywhere and water activities- catamarans, kitesurfing, banana boats, paragliding and much more. There are places to eat - there are bars and restaurants on the coast, but everything is very expensive. At night, foam parties take place on the beaches.

Diving

There are practically no dive sites near Sunny Beach. Experienced divers who want to dive will have to go to Varna, Sozopol or other cities. However, the nearest interesting object is located just 5 km from the resort - in Nessebar. Once upon a time, the city partially went under water, and now many traces of human civilization rest on the seabed - the city wall, the ruins of houses and fragments of amphorae.

There are many diving clubs in the region, one of them is on the South Beach of Sunny Beach. Beginners will be able to take their first dive and admire shellfish, seahorses, gobies and other fish, while professionals can dive for fun or take PADI training. In addition, diving centers organize trips to remote dive sites along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

Prices in different clubs are approximately the same. One dive for a beginner costs about 100 BGN, for an experienced diver - 70 BGN. PADI training courses and certificates will cost 500-700 BGN. The price most often includes equipment rental, transportation and other additional services.

Hotels

The choice of housing for vacationers in the city is quite large - hotels, apartments, villas, hostels and guest houses. Although the number of rooms is large, half of the hotels do not have room for the high season six months before it. Prices depend more on proximity to the sea than on a specific area. However, Soviet buildings have been preserved in the center, and it is easier to find inexpensive options there.

The resort has many great deals for large groups. When renting a house for 5-20 people, the cost per guest will be between 10-25 BGN per day.

Most a budget option accommodation - hostels and guest houses. A double room on the outskirts of the resort opposite the beach will cost 30-50 BGN per night. Prices for 2-3* hotels start from 60 BGN per day, but this will also not be the first coastline. A little closer to the sea you can find housing for 100-120 BGN, and on the coast itself prices range from 180 to 390 BGN. There are several dozen “fours” at the resort - 100-400 BGN per night in double room. There are not many “fives”, the price range is about the same.

What to bring

The shops in Sunny Beach sell clothes, shoes and accessories made in Bulgaria, as well as traditional souvenirs. For classic shopping and branded items, you should go to Burgas or Varna; local travel agencies organize entire shopping tours.

Ladies usually take away cosmetics based on rose oil from the resort. Silver is in particular demand in jewelry - it is cheaper here than in Russia. On the streets of the city you can often meet grandmothers-knitters. They create their masterpieces - tablecloths and napkins - and immediately sell them, laying them out directly on the asphalt covered with fabric. Such souvenirs cost a lot, but each item is exclusive. Products made of wood and ceramics will cost less.

For inexpensive products, it is better to go to the Mladost supermarket - prices are significantly lower than in other shops in the resort. Cheap vegetables and fruits can be found at the market.

Honey is often brought from here as an edible food. It is better to buy it at the festival, which takes place at the end of August in neighboring Nessebar. As a gift for connoisseurs of good alcohol, you can grab rakia vodka, mastic tincture or Bulgarian wine.

Cuisine and restaurants of Sunny Beach

The resort has establishments serving local, European, Oriental, Indian, Italian, Russian and British cuisines. The Bulgarian menu includes a lot of grilled vegetables, meat and fish. In addition, you should definitely try dairy products here. Almost every establishment will offer guests first courses. In summer, “tarator” is in demand - a cold soup made with sour milk with garlic, cucumbers and walnuts. Other traditional dishes- “moussaka” (potato casserole with minced meat and sauce) and “catino meze” (chopped pork with onions and mushrooms). For those with a sweet tooth, they serve a wide variety of delicacies - preserves, jams, pumpkin baked in honey, halva and other oriental sweets.

Those who would like to see National character, will be disappointed by the almost complete lack of mechanics.

You can taste fresh pastries with aromatic coffee for breakfast at local confectionery shops - “sweet shops”. For quick snacks, the embankment is full of fast food establishments - cafes and pizzerias, there are also international networks- KFC and McDonald's. All this is suitable for budget-conscious tourists - a meal costs 10-25 BGN per person. To have lunch on a budget, you need to look for restaurants away from the embankment and the resort center, where you can easily spend 30-45 BGN for two. Dinner for two people in a popular establishment, such as the Khan's Tent or the Santa Clara ship, will cost 70-100 BGN.

Entertainment and attractions

Sunny Beach is a relatively young resort - there are no museums or ancient attractions here. However, the city has many opportunities for active recreation and entertainment, so you won’t get bored. And those who cannot imagine their vacation without excursions can go to Old Nessebar or located a little further Sozopol.

Travel agencies in Sunny Beach organize trips to Sofia, Istanbul, Balchik, Veliko Turnovo and other cities.

There are several mini golf courses in the northern part of the embankment. You can ride around the picturesque surroundings of the city in a jeep, ATV or all-terrain vehicle. Those who are tired of the heat can stop by the bowling club or immerse themselves in an imaginary reality in 5D cinemas, and gambling fans can visit the Platinum casino. On the outskirts of the resort there is a go-kart track and a paintball court.

At night on main street There are many establishments - from nightclubs with fashionable DJs for young people to luxurious restaurants with show programs for older people.

The high season is in the summer months, but swimming here begins in mid-May and ends at the end of October. In the first half of autumn, the resort is cooler than in July-August, but the water is still warm.

Although there is no snow, winter is cold and chilly. From November to March it rains more often, and there are practically no tourists here. The exception is those who came to see Old Nessebar. But for excursions it is still better to choose April or October - the resort is quite warm and sunny, and there are not many people.

After an earthquake that happened many centuries ago, part of this policy went under the waters of the Black Sea. The ancient buildings are still visible from the rocky promontory. The peninsula that remained above the water became very tiny, about 800 m in length and half as wide. It’s simply amazing how many buildings fit on this patch. The old city is replete with monuments of Greek and Roman antiquity, medieval fortifications, and Christian churches of the Byzantine era. The oldest church is the temple in the name of Hagia Sophia (5th century). Ribarska Street will lead you to the ruins of an ancient theater.

An interesting exhibition at the Archaeological Museum, located on Mesembria Street, will tell you about the history of the city. Further on the same street you will find the Ethnographic Museum. Cozy cafes, souvenir shops and small shops are often located in ancient buildings built in the 18th-19th centuries.

New Nessebar begins immediately behind the isthmus, near which a small city port and yacht club have been built. This is where they start boat trips on yachts and boats. You can negotiate with the owners of small private yachts on individual boat trips for a family of three or four people.

Modern Nessebar is planned with love for history and the surrounding nature; it does not at all suppress its ancient part. It's compact and cozy resort town with low buildings. The clean streets are lined with trees, houses with light facades are covered with red tiles, there are several inexpensive hotels, and local residents willingly rent out rooms and apartments to tourists.

In the north and south of the city limits, picturesque sand dunes surrounding wide beaches remain untouched. In the east, a large park approaches the city, planted in the middle of the last century, during the construction of the Sunny Beach resort. During the planning of the landscape, the tombs of the ancient inhabitants of the city were discovered. After archaeological research they are open for inspection.

Beaches of Sunny Beach

Sunny Beach is a continuous 8-kilometer sand beach, its width from the surf line reaches 30-80 m. The flat bottom near the coast is also sandy, it goes very smoothly into the depths. Impeccable environmental conditions, developed infrastructure, the cleanliness and well-groomed beaches are annually awarded a prestigious international award - the Blue Flag.

The beach area is separated from the hotels by a wide promenade. Part of the beach area is concessioned, but entry to all beaches is free. You only need to pay for the use of sun loungers and umbrellas installed here (8 leva for each item). However, it is not forbidden to sit on your own towel or air mattress away from the densely placed sun loungers. There is enough space.

On the municipal Central Beach the cost of a set of an umbrella and a plastic sun lounger is 7 leva, it can be very crowded here. Many vacationers buy umbrellas in the store (about 20 leva), and on the day of departure they give or sell them to newly arrived tourists. Toilets on all beaches are paid (0.5 leva), by the way, there are not so many of them.

On the beaches of Sunny Beach there are designated children's areas with playgrounds, attractions and swimming pools. Everywhere there are shallow and warm areas of the sea, fenced with mesh booms, with “paddling pools” for the youngest tourists. Animators, rescuers and security officers look after the children's entertainment.

At every step there are bars and eateries with fish and grilled meat menus. Many beach restaurants offer a children's menu with funny designed dishes, and in any bar of the resort they will be happy to prepare a milk or fruit cocktail for your child, or squeeze out fresh juice - vegetable, berry or fruit. However, beach snacks and drinks are quite expensive.

Entertainment

There are more than a hundred nightclubs, casinos, discos, bowling bars, and amusement parks in Sunny Beach. Luna Park and Fan Park have carousels, centrifuges, slides and other attractions. Cost – from 4 to 20 leva. Small attractions for children (slides, swings) are scattered on beaches along the entire coast. But you will not find such a number and variety of water attractions as in the huge water park in Sunny Beach Black Sea coast countries. "Action Aquapark" is located in the center of the resort. Shuttles will take you from anywhere in Sunny Beach to the water park for free.

The “Giant Descent”, the “Free Fall” tower or the “Extreme” slide will cause an incredible surge of adrenaline. And only the most desperate tourists dare to go through the Kamikaze attraction - there is no queue for it. You can relax in one of the pools or in the leisurely flow of the Lazy River.

A significant part of the attractions are designed to entertain children. An entire town has been built here for them with shallow pools, slides, rope labyrinths, a mysterious castle on the water, and animal figurines. The water park has a mini-zoo where small animals and waterfowl live. Tourists are entertained by animators; competitions and competitions on the water are organized every hour.

Action Aquapark is open to visitors from 10:00 to 18:00. Price entrance ticket for adults for a full day – 40 leva. For children less than 130 cm tall – 20 leva. After 15:00, tickets can be purchased for 28 leva (adult) and 14 leva (children). You can pay for your tickets at the box office by bank card or in cash levs. You cannot bring food or drinks into the water attractions. Upon entry, bags are inspected by park staff. Seized products can be left in the storage room, and in return you will be given a bracelet with the cell number. The park has fast food, ice cream, drinks, a restaurant, cocktail bars, a shop and souvenir shops.

Not far from the water park there is a Karting Track. Here you can race on powerful go-karts around a ring track with sharp turns. The cost of this pleasure is 30 leva for 10 minutes of riding. The helmet is provided free of charge, but for a cloth balaclava you need to pay 2 leva. Teenagers are allowed to ride karts. A child seat is installed for them, and a speed limiter is attached to the gas pedal.

During the day, many hotels on their stretches of coastline organize beach soccer and volleyball competitions with team prizes, and at night they host parties with beer, wine, dancing and light snacks. But the most “freaky” parties, in which dozens and even hundreds of guests participate, are organized by the animators of the Party Patrol service. Join this noisy youth group, and you will get a tempting opportunity to “patrol” a dozen or one and a half bars per night with amazing discounts on drinks and snacks. The patrol company has fun to the jokes and entertainment of the animators, wandering from bar to bar, dancing in the best nightclubs of Sunny Beach.

In scuba diving centers, renting equipment will cost from 70 to 100 leva. But here, on the underwater sandy terrain that gradually goes deep into the depths, only beginners dive, who will be satisfied with observing crabs, mollusks and bottom fish. Here you can take a full diving course and receive an international PADI school certificate. The cost of the course for 500-700 leva includes equipment rental, travel costs to dive sites (there are no spectacular dive sites in the resort area), and the services of accompanying instructors. Experienced divers contact the websites of Sunny Beach diving clubs in advance, even before flying to the resort. This way you can choose the optimal cost of trips to your desired dive sites.

In the dunes, away from the hotels, behind the highway, there is an extensive paintball range.

If you want to explore the surrounding foothills, join Jeep Safari groups. For 100 leva you will get an SUV for the whole day and go on a trip. At the end of the trip, the organizers arrange a barbecue dinner (included in the price).

Boat trips will give you vivid impressions. The resort has catamarans that take tourists along the coast. Pleasure ships are often accompanied by Black Sea dolphins; this cheerful escort creates a great mood for adults and brings incredible joy to children. A four-hour walk with a stop for swimming and lunch will cost 60 leva per passenger. Those who wish to go fishing are provided with gear. There is a bar on board; all drinks, including alcohol, will be served free of charge. The groups are accompanied by friendly guides who speak many languages, including Russian.

Excursions

A few kilometers south of Nessebar, explore the town of Pomorie. Another one was located here antique city– Anhialo (IV century BC). In ancient times it was famous for its large salt mines, and today the healing properties of salts and mud are used in a large balneological resort complex.

A very interesting excursion to the ancient Thracian sanctuary Beglik Tash. With a transfer by bus and an hour and a half examination of the megaliths, the oldest sundials, and a walk to the caves in the oak grove, this educational journey will take about five hours. Archaeologists date the stone altars to the 15th century BC. e. Megalithic complex on a mountainous slope facing the sea, often called the Bulgarian Stonehenge. What to buy

The most popular souvenirs to remember a trip to Sunny Beach are hand-painted ceramic dishes, knitwear, and national costumes. Cute items are offered by locals selling their crafts on the coastal promenade. Particularly beautiful are the knitted woolen items that the craftswomen produce right behind the counter, tirelessly flashing their knitting needles.

Go shopping at shopping centers. Please note that large stores once a week have sales of goods with significant discounts. On such days, supermarkets send their own buses throughout the resort, bringing everyone shopping for free. The largest of them is the “Zhanet” hypermarket. Let's describe its assortment in three words: it has everything. Pay attention to the culinary department, where you can inexpensively buy ready-made hot food of restaurant quality and fresh vegetable salads. If you are staying in an apartment, this is the place for you. “Zhanet” has the largest selection of alcohol, cheeses and sausages in the resort. But the prices in the hypermarket are not resort prices, they are quite affordable. As gastronomic souvenirs, buy here a couple of bottles of Bulgarian wine, a bottle of Sunshine Bryag brandy and a set of various spices packaged in beautiful glass containers. Manufactured goods, beach clothes and accessories (inflatable mattresses, umbrellas, masks, fins) are located on the second floor. The advantage of the hypermarket is that it is open from 8:00 to 23:00.

Restaurants

The best restaurants in Sunny Beach are not always located in the most iconic places resort. Several factors play a role in the fine choice of such an establishment - the talent of the chef, the creativity of the interior designer, the degree of greed of the owner and, of course, your own culinary preferences.

The Sunny Beach resort has many restaurants that fall into the “tasty and inexpensive” category. Lunch for two will cost 25-30 leva.

The steaks and pork ribs at the Hawaii beach restaurant are consistently good. Their appetizing smell serves as a sure sign that something delicious is being prepared here! This open-air bungalow with its thatch canopy and palm tubs is always crowded with hungry beachgoers, but space will soon become available for you as the staff works quickly. Let's reveal a little secret: order a cocktail here after 18:00, and the bartender will send you exactly the same one as a gift.

An appetizing grill menu is offered by La Banana Bar and Food. The local chefs do not skimp, the portions are simply huge. While you overcome them, washing them down with cold beer, your children will play in the children's corner. In the evenings it sounds here live music, mingling with the rustle of the surf - the restaurant is located two steps from the water.

We recommend getting acquainted with Bulgarian cuisine at the Jupiter Steak House restaurant. It is located near Luna Park, in the Chaika quarter. For your first course, order shkembe chorba – a spicy soup made from offal with garlic. For the second course - lamb shish kebab. As a side dish, try mish-mash, which is stewed vegetables mixed with feta cheese. The portions of perfectly fried meat are so large that one skewer will be enough for two. But if you can’t finish the meat, they will pack it for you. Wash down your lunch with rakia - strong fruit vodka, or red Bulgarian wine. If you prefer beer, order crispy kashkaval – breaded fried cheese – with it. Chushka burek – bell pepper stuffed with cheese, baked in ceramic pots – is also good with beer.

The resort's restaurants offer dishes from the culinary arsenal of many countries around the world - from Peking duck and Japanese fish sushi to English puddings and French delicacies.

The bus station is located in the center of the resort, near the Svezhest hotel. There is a small waiting room and luggage storage lockers. There is a taxi rank nearby. We recommend using the services of licensed cars. They are painted in a catchy lemon color, have the inscription “Taxi” or are marked with “checkers”, a sticker with tariffs is attached to the glass, a logo with the company name and the dispatcher’s phone number is depicted on the hood or on the door, and a meter is installed in the cabin. Pay attention to it right away. The display should reflect the amount of the boarding fare - 0.70 levs. If the amount is different (this is one of the tricks of taxi drivers), ask the driver to reset it. Another trick is to not turn on the meter at all. Upon arrival you will be given an absolutely fantastic amount. Make sure that the “forgetful” driver turns on the meter.
